Miles away from home he couldn’t afford a hotel room because everything in the general area was very expensive, but there he was living in his car while waiting for me to get through surgery and recovery. I head in the night before when my family goes to bed and live outside the station for the next 3 days. It saves me over 100 miles and about 5 hours of driving every week. I don't really miss out on family time since I'd get home after they are in bed and leave right when they wake up. Plus I get more downtime without the daily commute. I have a plug, all the conveniences of home (sofa, bed, toilet, tv/dvd, kitchenette) and a gym nearby to shower. Everyone I work with knows what I do but the neighboring businesses don't. It's a very comfortable situation for maximizing my time and minimizing my expenses and gives me 4 days off every week to spend with my family. Loved the video. Feels like having a virtual neighbor.

@@pokenurse1 I just had a guy come in for minor chest tightness and we did an EKG. It was said that it showed bradycardia. I looked and immediately noticed 3rd degree block. I told the doc we need pacing. I got him versed, fentanyl, and got him hooked to trans/pacing, called the helicopter and had him flown out. He was going to be discharged with a damn 3rd degree block. No one is ever going to say a word to me about it. I work in rural access ER and no one here has ever paced anyone. I just got that done and no one will ever say a word to me about it. In fact, the guy’s wife was rude as shit to me about the whole thing. I won’t receive a thank you, won’t hear “good job”, no one even seems to recognize that I caught that before he got discharged with a 3rd degree block and died. I don’t go around giving myself credit or asking for it, but I know if one of the managers caught that they’d be getting their picture taken and handed a plaque. I’m not in the clique so no one is even going to care. More likely they’re going to send me an email about some charting error or something.

February 10 th last year year. Day two post-op. Ovarian cancer- I’d been gutted like a fish. One of my nurses came in and asked if I wanted to stand by the bed. I gave her an honest answer. But I’d promised myself and my hushed in while do ask I could recover. That nurse literally held me up as I have my all to just stand by my bed. I’m a former nurse. Nursing professors need to teach the importance of bedside manners, empathy and how to calm their ego's. Most RN's I've dealt with especially the newbies walk around with a chip on their shoulder and put themselves at the same level as Doctors. They need to be knocked down a couple of notches. All you see now is nurses congregating around the nurses station, laughing and joking around and staying on their phones while patients have called upon them for an hour. It's the CNA's and LPN's that do most the work with the patients. I've concluded that I'm not fond of RN's.

My assignment facility is located 2 hours from where I am currently staying full time which is a very nice restored historic hotel converted to high end apartments. I work six 12 hour days followed by 8 off days. During the 6 days I work at the facility I live in my vehicle in the hospital parking area doing the same daily activities as this young man. It’s not so bad really. I save a lot of gas since I don’t have to drive back and forth to work and nor do I have to waste good hard earned money on a hotel. I also have easy access to the hospital restrooms and cafeteria as needed. Oh, and I get to walk just a few steps to work every day. I think I’ve got a good deal! … Thank you for giving me added inspiration! PS: I was also nominated for the Daisy Award in 2022!😊

There is a difference between the number of male nurses versus female nurses. Statistically, male nurses are at a record high of 21% in 2021 compared to 7% in 2008 based on "registered nurse" statistics. I worked for a phone company for 18 years, and there was a 20 to 1 female versus male in that industry. So, speaking about an industry that in past years was primarily women IS GOOD. I will not be told what to think or speak about because I grew up in the US in the 60s and 70s. I know the power of freedom of speech. It keeps us free!
