It is ok to have a baby outside marriage. However, in the UK, we have a lot of social issues as we have babies (young teens) having babies and in lots of cases the fathers don’t stick around or the women have babies with different fathers. It’s not fair on the children as they need stability and good role models. I’m not saying people should stay together if the relationship is toxic but studies have shown that children fare better with a mum and dad raising you.

I commend the Korean culture for having high standards for what kind of family their children are born into. In the US, having children out of wedlock has now passed the 50% rate, meaning more than half of children being born are born to parents that are not married. As a school teacher, I see first hand the hot mess our society is in because of so many single parent children. A few decades ago, behavior problems in schools were massively less common. Crime rates were lower, too. I sympathize with your housing situation because the US has that problem too. Our family is a four generation household after my daughters landlord raised their rent significantly and they could not find another place of their own to live in. I hope you are able to find solutions to this problem.

I am in agreement with your culture, because I feel it’s beneficial for a child to have two parents. Parenting is hard work. But I do feel It’s good for countries to have resources for single parents due to death of a spouse or separation due to unhealthy abusive relationships. How does your society treat those who are single parents due to a passing of their spouse? In Canada, we have a high living costs as well, our jobs are being given to immigrants due to government subsidies, so in some places it can be really hard to find jobs. Your population could rise if your country was big on immigration, but you would also lose your culture and way of life, which to me would be sad. Perhaps people need to reevaluate the way they live, life needs to be sustainable in order to survive. Balance is the key to health and happiness.

​@@ro-zeea.8734 The topics you mentioned are no longer a big deal. There are many ways and choices among women in accordance to law and protection. With SA and R I can only wish it won't happen to young girls but then proceedings are already at hand. I have 4 kids ranging 24, 21, 17 and 15 yrs old. The eldest is already living together with his girlfriend at 19. The 2nd has a steady boyfriend they just have an arrangement which of their apartments to stay. The 3rd has a boyfriend already that is staying with us most of the time. The youngest has none yet but I always reminding her to be considerate of what she really wants for a relationship. No one is bad marking here for a single mother instead they get understanding from people even at work. For those who had 2 or three divorces and having kids of different fathers is somehow a different thing. Well who are we to judge for that choice to live?

@@potato6658 Well I live my life to not having a marriage complications but what is important is that my kids once and foremost healthy, successful and find contenment for what they are doing. And I also wish for kids of single mothers to be that way too. Sure there are also delinquent kids because of such family situation. Delinquents are also found among well to do families. Our neighbour is handling these kids. They are under program and to those who committed crimes they are in a closed facilities but their education continues. Thanks God in Germany every kid is given the chance to go to good school, trade schools and depending of the grades they could study anything, even medicine for free. With allowances and food there is also study now pay later plans at hand. BTW University tuition fees here are free. And for those who take tradeschool or 3yr program after highschool get allowances from the firms where practicants are on the very first year they started.

french person here, and it's true that in france people have children out of wedlock fairly often. It's no longer taboo like it may have been before. the divorce rates are also high so I think a lot of folks don't bother with marriage anymore. France has a relatively robust welfare system which allows people to get some form of government assistance when they have kids, even if it's not really enough to live on, it's still better than receiving nothing. I also think the society/culture is not nearly as competitive as south korea so people have a better work/life balance than a lot of other countries. Having said that, life is becoming more costly as well, so like in korea the housing prices are increasing and making it hard for people to puchase homes in big cities.

Hi there! I live in the US and having a child out of wedlock is quite popular and accepted here. Or at least in the area I live. Most people are not married and they have children. Including myself, I am older now but I have a child and I was not married to her father. She is an adult now with a child and she is also not married. Same with a lot of other people I know in my area and grew up with. It is pretty common here and not really that much of a surprise. In my opinion marriage is not the same as it once was or the meaning of marriage isn't the same anymore. And apartment prices here are ridiculous and so high too. Too high! One person cannot afford these rents anymore. It takes a 2 person income to afford any sort of housing anymore.

I enjoy Korean culture (music, dramas, etc.) Sometimes I wonder if the cultural creativity that Korea is experiencing (Oscars, Grammys, etc.) isn't in some way a "pressure release valve". Koreans seem under tremendous pressure in terms of educational demands, pursuit of the "good jobs", the high demands of the corporate environment, the financial demands of life in Seoul, etc. One way that people deal with the pressure of life is through creativity & artistic expression. In the reverse of a popular saying: The silver cloud of the artistic explosion in Korea comes with a dark lining.

In Australia the divorce rate is really, really high. Obviously, people think- why bother with marriage? Australian society enjoys an inclusive, progressive and generous culture. For example non married couples have the same legal rights as married couples e.g for custody, division of property/ assets. Ethnic minorities still impose their own culture on themselves. Gender equality is a normalised feature of Australian culture, different to Korea. I like your videos.

I lived in the Netherlands and France. Having kids and getting married are really considered 2 separate things. If you get married is does not mean you will get kids. And you don't need to get married to get kids.

I had my son at 26, I’ was a single mother I raised my son well I’m very proud of him.I am now 68 years old and like I said, I’m very proud of my son. He has done so well in life. I live in the US my son was born in 1982. I worked hard and supported us both with no help from his father. My family was always there and watched him while I was at work so I had help from my family. No one ever really questioned me. I was just such a strong person and can do things on my own. That’s how I was raised and here that’s really not looked down upon I guess.

I understand respect to your parents yet even parents need to move forward in thinking. Parents need to let their children fly out the nest mentally and fysically. As a parent you need to let go and let your children live their lives as they wish. To let your kids take their own path in life is health for all generations. I feel this kind of pushing your thought, thinking, way of living is mostly in Asia and putting a lot of pressure on young people. On the other hand young people have the power to change things. Here in the Netherlands is as you mentioned, a single parent or not married couple is accepted in sociaty. Living together before marriage is normal as housing prices are crazy if you want to buy or rent. You have to have quite the money or wealthy parents to live by your self these days.

In this generation, a lot of people have children outside of marriage and it’s not looked down on, it’s very common, but it used to be looked down on a few generations ago. When there is children born outside of marriage though, the mother (who usually gets custody) often is the main or even sole provider and struggles financially. Some men won’t provide for their children financially and courts have to step in to force them to pay, but it’s still not much help to the mothers. I do see the benefits of a culture where marriage prior to having children is preferred, and I agree with parents trying to suggest that, however I don’t agree with pushing it excessively or a culture of shaming women who have children when not married.

The older generation will never learn anymore and the younger generation should do something about new perspectives. Modernization and being puritan doesn't work. Europe was for a long time patriarchal but as the time went by thru modernization its perspectives had change. Maternity leaves for mothers is up to 3yrs and if they can't go back to work after that given time the job is automatically vacant. These days fathers can apply paternal leaves too and may receive 65% of their salary. Wives at this period can go back to work half days. Sure everything is expensive here too but grocery is very affordable. About clothing most Germans don't buy for children all brand new. Second hand bazaars and shops are available for cheap price but are still good. When kids reach their teens they got their wishes and preferences but it doesn't mean that what others have they should get it too. I am thankful that retro style is in that my teen kids go to 2nd hand bazaars by themselves.

Honestly this is my type of content. I’m from Mexico, but I’ve been consuming korean content for almost 7 years (I’m thanking BTS for that, they’re the ones who made me feel interested in all Korean related things), I’ve been reading a lot on X about low birth rate in SK, and honestly I can’t really blame you for being worried, that’s not something I really worry in my own country, people here have babies like crazy lmao, I have like 10 uncles just from my fathers side, those uncles had like 3-5 kids each, some of those kids had their kids, which right now are nearly my age, lmao families here in Mexico are crazy loaded. But in SK, it’s just too expensive to raise children, also people having a hard time finding a house, or owning one, also the excessive hours of work, and putting new children into all of that pressure (including the almost toxic academic one) if I was there I would too choose not to have children, people are already exhausted at their current life. Doesn’t make it any sad tho. I’m sure the government will find a solution, even if that means paying people to have kids lmao. But I also can’t blame the current generation for not wanting any.

I live in a big city in North America. People often have children out of wedlock where I am, however, due to the high cost of living (average house being $1,000,000), most people choose to opt out of having children (millennials) as children are seen as another expense. That is why there is such high immigration rates, as the citizens are not maintaining the population.

If I am not mistaken, Indonesia is the 4th populate country in the world. However, the birth rate is slowing down as well and this year one of people in the government said every woman has to give birth one woman. Hopefully, they will not accept and make this idea becomes a public policy/ a regulation. What a solution! hi, im from Italy! 🇮🇹Here in Italy there was the same mentality until the 80s/90s, I remember my grandparents talking like this "to have children you have to get married!" Marriage was seen as a secure basis but later things changed, today many couples live together without marriage, and form a family: the law protects the family unit as in marriage, in case of separation There are the same laws for child custody and maintenance. Here in Israel, women in their late 30’s - early 40’s who are still unmarried often have babies on their own (with sperm donation). Children are a huge part of our culture, and there is a lot of social pressure to have children. So if you’re older but you haven’t been lucky and are still alone, having a child on your own is seen as a good solution. A younger woman who becomes a single mother would be judged much more harshly, though.

My opinion is that its not so big problem how it looked. The biggest birthrate is always in less developed countries and lower in more. Korea is one with most developed so this is logical. You must understand that Korea is not so big to comparision to many other countries but population is large. There is too industry 4.0 on the way so large number of peoples will not so important. I think that Korea have more important problems like work conditions, cost of many things (I fully agree) maybe social system. In Greece actually there are multiple occasions that a woman wants to have a child and as well straight or gay couples can adopt or even use a surrogate mother. As well the age limitation thankfully is not a thing anymore in our country people at 40 for example trying to create their own family or even on ther middle 40 or 50 they getting married! I didn't make a calculation like you did to see the prices of apartments, but taxes, fees and food are very expensive compared to salaries. The minimum wage is $400-500 and the prices are similar to those in the EU, maybe even higher, and in other EU countries the minimum wage is +$1000

in the USA, there is still some people who put a stigma on single moms or babies born out of wedlock, but millions of couples have children without marriage. the changes for the stigma is changing as every family has relative that has kids without marriage. marriage and children don’t always go hand in hand. women also may not wish to get married but have kids in their 30s. they might decide to go it alone as they have the means to do so, or they might have a long time boyfriend. it took several decades for this to be acceptable so i assume it will take that long for korea. i also think the long hours, the mandatory dinners, and the treatment of women needs to be addressed. as far as all of the jobs being in seoul, does korea have the concept of work from home? i work from home 3 times a week, but i know other people who work from home all the time. with all of the advances in tech, some professions thrive from a work from home environment and that would allow people to live outside of big cities

Having children outside of marriage in the Uk is seen as ok , usually these babies are welcomed with open arms and are much loved , if the parents are not married and split up then the parent who has left usually the father will have visitation rights and have to pay child care , or the child may spend half the week with the mother and the other half with the father, plus the parents will get help with child benefits and housing from the government 😊

I have to confirm one thing for sure - Korea is very clean and I like it a lot :) Especially as a cyclist because I don't have to worry about getting a puncture every now and then :) When it comes to marriage, then in my country (Estonia) it is in most cases completely fine to make kids without begin married. I think many young people nowadays are seeing marriage in a different way than it used to be and don't consider it as important as our parents and grandparents did. Personally in short I think that marriage is mainly just paperwork to decide how to officially share material things in case things go wrong so that one or another party will not be left with empty pockets in the end. But at the same time people value their freedom higher than ever before so I can understand why people don't want all this paperwork which they may consider a hassle. Also I think marriage is not necessary to love and to show that you love someone. I completely understand your concern about the situation in Korea though and the culture is really maybe in this situation not supporting the birth rate, but for sure there are many more reasons behind it. As someone who likes Korea a lot, I sincerely hope the situation will soon get better

I’ve been to Seoul and loved it but it reminded me of my hometown NYC. I worked so hard all the time and was constantly broke with housing being expensive. I managed to move to California 10 years ago where life is more manageable and I’m able to have a family but most of my friends back home cannot and they just turned 40. South Korea really has Seoul as its heart for jobs, life and culture and the housing is not ample enough. I sympathize as there is no easy solution unless something radical is done.

the mentality in France was the same still 2000 and same with old people today. I think, divorced as started to grow, and the mentality has to change ,women started to work because they needed to, because of divorce they had to educate their children alone. so the laws has to change. even now even couples with children have to work both because the life cost's increasing, people don't want to have children. In france because marriage can be a huge budget people have simple marriage, If they have children, they can do a simple marriage for the baby and the law. Parents seem to have much more control or authority over their kids in Korea than in the West. I think it is an East Asian trait, as I notice it in Canada with my Asian friends too. In the West casual sex is normal and many men avoid marriage as much as possible, this leads to children out of wedlock, either by accident or choice. Canada is so multicultural that i'd say now that we have next to no cultural norms. We are an individualistic society at this point and rebel against any authority.

In Germany 40% of the children are given birth without their parents being married. Decades ago this was a disgrace for the families of both sides as well, but nowadays it's socially accepted, same for single parents. In my opinion culture and traditions should never be a reason for a lack of further development. The world is changing and everyone needs to adjust all the time. Don't get me wrong, maintaining your own culture and traditions is an important thing, especially for your own feeling of identity and longing for safety, but it shouldnt stop a person or country from adjusting to a changing world.

You are missing one thing. Korea is an attractive country. If koreans do not make childs there will be not problem finding new working force because a lots of foreigners wish to live and work in korea (in every field from agriculture to enginnering). You should not worry about country collapse or who will pay your retirement. The best advice I can give you is this, no woman wants to be with the safest man on the planet. You may have to tap into a bit more of the dark toxic energy to entice modern women. Also, get your parents out of your relationships. With the culture we have in the west, this is what I see them craving from men. I hope it helps, it may not be the perfect answer but it's the risk that excites them here in our society
