I don't have to tell you things are bad. Everybody knows things are bad. It's a depression. Everybody's out of work or scared of losing their job. The dollar buys a nickel's worth, banks are going bust, shopkeepers keep a gun under the counter. Punks are running wild in the street and there's nobody anywhere who seems to know what to do, and there's no end to it. We know the air is unfit to breathe and our food is unfit to eat, and we sit watching our TV's while some local newscaster tells us that today we had fifteen homicides and sixty-three violent crimes, as if that's the way it's supposed to be. We know things are bad - worse than bad. They're crazy. It's like everything everywhere is going crazy, so we don't go out anymore. We sit in the house, and slowly the world we are living in is getting smaller, and all we say is, 'Please, at least leave us alone in our living rooms. Let me have my toaster and my TV and my steel-belted radials and I won't say anything. Just leave us alone.' Well, I'm not gonna leave you alone. I want you to get mad! I don't want you to protest. I don't want you to riot - I don't want you to write to your congressman because I wouldn't know what to tell you to write. I don't know what to do about the depression and the inflation and the Russians and the crime in the street. All I know is that first you've got to get mad. You've got to say, 'I'm a HUMAN BEING, God damn it! My life has VALUE!' So I want you to get up now. I want all of you to get up out of your chairs. I want you to get up right now and go to the window. Open it, and stick your head out, and yell, 'I'M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!' I want you to get up right now, sit up, go to your windows, open them and stick your head out and yell - 'I'm as mad as hell and I'm not going to take this anymore!' Things have got to change. But first, you've gotta get mad!... You've got to say, 'I'm as mad as hell, and I'm not going to take this anymore!' Then we'll figure out what to do about the depression and the inflation and the oil crisis. But first get up out of your chairs, open the window, stick your head out, and yell, and say it: "I'M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!"

i honestly thought he was sick of the same things that make government bad, as I did. but now that I see it further, i see him only as a self-concerned nobody wishing that life could be as he sees it, i dont think he hates america or sees it as bad. I think he sees it as a guy who hasnt gotten a good deal for far too long, but his only concern is how to make that idea pay off for the rich people who have paid a lot of investment money. thats his only problem, he only cares about the kind of people who are investors to companys, trump doesnt care about the real americans, the people worrying and taxing and paying. he cares about the kind of people who will give him percentages.

@@JoeNoobie You're either a bot, a troll or you haven't been paying attention. Stop listening to fake news on mainstream media and get your head out of...that dark place. Try Fox News - they're not perfect but at least they're not a bunch of pretty-boy robots spouting the PC propaganda talking points of the Leftists. Do some research and watch some independent news sources - there're lots of good ones on YT. Trump loves this country and the people in it and has done more in 21 months to turn it around for ALL OF US than any president since JFK - and you know what happened to him. Just think how much more he could do if the radicals in charge of the Dem Party weren't obstructing him at every turn!

The tragedy of this movie is the fact that he was telling the truth but no one really believed in his message because the people were only following what he was saying because he was on tv; showing that people were still "programmed" to do what the television tells them to do despite someone trying to wake them up.

But you're wrong history proves it people got off thier asses and fought to make true genuine change. And they succeeded civil rights, women's suffrage, the new deal that until Regan fucked it up pulled millions put of poverty. We can do something we just need the will and the camaraderie to come together and do it. And getting MAD and not taking it any more!! Is the first step we need to take.

The real tragedy is that this point was cut out of the clip your watching. This comment channel is filled with people who themselves buy the clip at face value, unaware that their rage is commoditized by KZbin as a nice viewership stat to sell to advertisers. Capital is so baked into the framwork of our society that even critiquing it ends up perpetuating it.

@@Nikeel_A.W its fetishism. Money is representative of human activity. When you believe it is more powerful than the thing that gives it power you've been captured by ideology. During Feudalism there was a point when people stop believing Kings were rulers because everyone swore fealty to them and the reverse became true; people swore fealty to kings because they were rulers. When you say _"It is the international system of currency which determines the totality of life on this planet. Honestly not that hard... If you look at Human nature individually. Why socialism was a sortof solution but it becomes a lot worse then capitalism. Because the same people trying to monopolize the world through capitalism would have it 10 times easier if it was communism... The only solution is to be governed by AI. Because even good solutions end up as bad once you force them. Why Capitalism sortof works. But when it works it works so well Humans might not even have 100 more years before the planet becomes unliveable you need to get mad.

@@chrisd.2328 nah, it did predict things. not the things he's ranting about like people seem to be suggesting, but the creation of news for entertainment. it was a dark satire at the time, it's become the de facto standard. beale is effectively sean hannity or glen beck or tucker carlson. if you go outside of "legacy media" then you could point to any number of outrage vendors on youtube or rumble or whatever -- alex jones, matt walsh, ben shapiro, etc. even entertainers russell brand have dabbled in the craft trying to cultivate a persona that resonates with the most subscribers.

Saw this one a plane in 1976 (that was back when the cabin lights dimmed, the big screen came down, and everybody watched the same film. It was a movie theater in the sky!). This movie's really amazing -- it accurately prophesied the onset of reality TV 25 years before it happened, and the inevitable future of television - bleak as it is. One of the top 3 greatest film achievements of all time!

+Todd Bettenhausen you censoring yourself makes me think about this; “Don't you see that the whole aim of Newspeak is to narrow the range of thought? In the end we shall make thought-crime literally impossible, because there will be no words in which to express it. Every concept that can ever be needed will be expressed by eactly one word, with its meaning rigidly defined and all its subsidiary meanings rubbed out and forgotten. . . . The process will still be continuing long after you and I are dead. Every year fewer and fewer words, and the range of consciousness always a little smaller. Even now, of course, there's no reason or excuse for commiting thought-crime. It's merely a question of self-discipline, reality-control. But in the end there won't be any need even for that. . . . Has it ever occcured to you, Winston, that by the year 2050, at the very latest, not a single human being will be alive who could understand such a conversation as we are having now?.....The Revolution will be complete when the language is perfect.” ― George Orwell, 1984 So fuck you and your selfcensoring.

It fits just about every time I think. Four years ago it would perfectly have fit to the election of donald trump, it would fit to BLM protests. Hell it would even fit into the mindset of coronacritics, gendercritics and, to sum it up it would generally fit anyone who has a strong sense against anything happening because over all it is just agitation. Though specifically you could frame it around anticapitalism concerning industry (air unfit to breath) and (fast) food industry (food unfit to eat) as well as of course economic crisis and the precarity it means for lower classes. I do not know the context of the film, but Id like me a rather marxist reading of this.
