Osaka is a must for every itinerary in Japan. This city has a very different energy compared to Tokyo, considered to be the foodie capital of the country and home to many historical monuments. If you are coming here for the first time, I would recommend staying a minimum of 3 days so you can explore off the beaten track as well (I'll get into that in my next video), but in this video I wanted to feature some of the absolute musts for visiting the city. Hope you enjoy the video and let me know what some of your favorite places are in Osaka!

*I highly recommend this travel health insurance because you don't have to pay out of pocket for your medical expenses and they have very reasonably priced long term plans. You can buy the packages for shorter trips as well, but they're especially fantastic for digital nomads and nomads who want regular health insurance when they are abroad. I am an affiliate of this company, but of course use the plans myself.

Japan is such a wonderful place, I’m a single woman in my 60’s and often travel to Japan alone, spending 2mths there each time. I’ve never felt afraid by myself in Japan, despite not speaking Japanese. I don’t go to tourist places instead I just catch the train & get of at random stops to walk around the area.

Plum blossoms, which resemble cherry blossoms, are in full bloom around February, earlier than cherry blossoms.

Japan is also my favorite country in the world. I have been visiting Japan at least annually since early childhood (except during the pandemic when a planned stay for the year was halted in 2020 three days before departure due to the borders being closed). My long-term fascination with so very much of Japan even meant that I took Japanese as my foreign language requirement in secondary school and university. I've been in Osaka for a little more than 5 weeks, and curiously, I too chose Nishinari-ku as my initial place of residence in the country for 3 and 1/2 months. I didn't realize the reputation of the area until a KZbin posting came up when I was checking on news back home in the states. However, I have not found anything even remotely related to the negative connotations that were being used to describe the area. On the contrary, my experience thus far has been one that is typical of my previous visits to Japan - courteous helpful people, immense feeling of safety, efficient and clean transportation, wonderful food, etc. - a major reason I selected this area of Osaka is that it was several very short blocks from the Osaka Symphony Hall. Nishinari-ku is an "older" ward of Osaka, but there is a lot of renewal/construction occurring in the area, as is generally typical of Japan. I am learning so much more about Japan that cannot be gleaned from relatively brief 2 to 3 week visits. For this, I am so grateful to the Japanese Government for the visa that allows me to finally finish my remaining "bucket list" of places and activities that I want to experience in my life. And just to let you know, the Cherry Blossom bloom is earlier than usual this year due to the warmer weather. The full bloom for Osaka is expected at the end of March next week. I believe some of the blossoms you showed in the video were actually plum blossoms that tend to bloom before cherry blossoms. Enjoy your trip revisiting this wonderful country, During the pandemic, I felt a profound sense of loss when I couldn't visit Japan.

Outstanding portrait of the city - the heliport, the public transport and the food are all things to do when in Osaka. Alina mentioned the bad area of the city but even there one feels safe to begin with isn’t possible in North America and Europe. The culture and expectations of personal behaviour are different in East Asia. Much more of Japan to see!

Dotonbori and Tennoji are tourist attractions. The original Tokyo-like cityscape of Osaka is the area around Osaka Station and the Kita Ward area, which includes Umeda, Nakanoshima, Yodoyabashi, and Kitahama. It is the most flourishing place where historic buildings and modern architecture blend. The population of Osaka is not 3 million. 8.8 million people. Population dropped to 3rd place, but economy size and city size remained 2nd place. Harukas also has a Marriott Hotel, so the view from the room at night is even more spectacular than during the day. Many of Japan's famous foods come from Osaka. Okonomiyaki, takoyaki, conveyor belt sushi, kushikatsu, kitsune udon, omelet rice, hormones, the list goes on and on. This is the reason why it is called the kitchen of Japan. It is the home of delicious food and is overflowing. It is ranked in the top 10 of the world's most livable towns, and it is above Tokyo. There are more tourist attractions than there. Zoos, 70's Expo City, aquariums, world heritage emperor's tombs, ancient tombs, even though it's a big city, you can see mountains, waterfalls, and autumn leaves in 20 minutes by train. and so on It took half a century to make it in Osaka, Aigawa Dam will open in 2023. Japan's longest suspension bridge, bungee jumping, There are also facilities for water activities. No other city has such an environment. Now, Osaka Station is also built underground, and it is a hot topic right now because it is full of near-future high-tech facilities for the first time in the world. In Osaka, the world's largest park directly connected to a station is also under construction. In 2025, the second World Expo will be held in Osaka. Please come again.

Although I spent a day or two in Osaka, I was really using it as a jumping off point to other areas of Japan. I went to Dōtonbori in the evening and walked the Dōtonbori canal on both sides. I went with friends who actually wanted to see Osaka, but I honestly didn't give the city its due. We stood roughly stood in the same spot on the bridge to get a photo with the Glico Man in background cause that's what you do. I didn't have a clue what the Glico Man was about or why people wanted the shot. I recognized the image, but that was about it. I didn't go to Osaka Castle cause it was a restoration ( Japanese Jo snob), cause I didn't understand it's historical significance, then. Also, I didn't have Okonomiyaki, or Takoyaki, because I'm not a really a seafood eater, so not interested in the former, and I hate boiled cabbage, so a nope on the latter. Basically, I didn't give Osaka a chance, and was only there because my friends wanted to go. Knowing what I do now after learning more, I can only say, I was an idiot. I've got to spend spend a few days in the city and give it a chance.

Welcome back to Japan!!! I am so glad if you will enjoy a pretty of nice foods in Japan 🇯🇵 (I am not so much fan of Takoyaki, but It’s said that there is a Takoyaki maker in every home in Osaka😅)

Hey there Alina... You of course remember me... not at all... I wrote you underneath your Plovdiv Bulgaria videos ~2 years ago, and than I might have dropped some totally not relevant thoughts on some other videos of yours, while I were interested in them... Now however you >have hit the spot< with me once again... I do like Japan. I like Anime... And surprisingly enough of my marginal and short in duration "Travel History" (Vienne, Venice @ very young age, Tokyo, Osaka and 1 more City Japan, Nearby Greece not even tourist places, Istanbul Turkey) I have been where you have been... It were ~10 years ago, back when I were 25 or something, I am now 35... Some of the locations you've visited rang a bell... I also still happen to have the pictures (I should definitely back up them). Back than I were happy to have for a first time in my life travel by plain (Venice as previously most distant destination abroad was entirely Buss trip) (In fact I had a flight transition somewhere in the Emirates)... Also seeing Tokyo PoV and from that tower you mentioned made me than on return see the capital of my country as the peasant province village that it is (not that I had different opinion prior to that, but it became obviously underline to the extreme by the direct comparison of the PoVs). I never had This octopus thing thou... I were having the cliché hotel breakfast... (I always pick eggs, ham and bread with some sauces and a vegetable here and there under those circumstances) and in the nights beer and fried chicken in small restaurants... I actually had ~traditional Japanese food... once in Japan and it was left over sushi roll from the cheapest goods of the cheapest shop one of the tourist buss mates have purchased and kindly offered me. I do like Sushi and a few places in my 3rd world banana republic, even in my town, offer it... but as you can guess the prices are not for your average local... and I am not even average for a Local... where the wealthiest amongst us are world wide charity case beggars... One does not simply see Japan from above and remain sane in terms of wealth perception. Have a good trip and a nice time Alina.
