So, just to drop some history on you, Queen was not the hype that day. They had some major major headliners like U2, Madonna, David Bowie, and like sooo many more big names. That's why Queen only got a 20 minute set during the day time. AND THEY STOLE THE SHOW! I mean Freddie Mercury 100% owned every fan in that stadium. This is wildly considered one of the best sets in rock and roll history and basically no one that wasn't there knows anything about the other performances. In fact one of the producers of the show (I think it was a producer) said something to the effect of, 'thank God above that Freddie chose to use his powers for good because he was in full control of 100,000 people that day and they would've done anything he said to do'.

About the twenty minutes ...their Mike's were cut off then. They had 3 lights on the floor in front of stage. Green for ok yellow warning red Mike's turned off lol. Also if you see Queen at the end the red light comes on when Freddie drops his hand to finish. Perfect timing!

Radio Ga Ga, written by Roger, the drummer, is basically a nostalgic love song to the radio and music. "All we hear is radio ga ga, radio goo goo" etc basically means that all they hear is people talking shit about the radio. This was a time when people started to watch music videos more than listening to the radio. I don't know if you've heard the song, but it kinda has the same vibe as Video Killed The Radio Star.

the story behind "radio gaga" is a bit long .... "Radio Ga Ga" was recorded in 1983 and released in January 1984. It was a commentary on television overtaking radio's popularity and how one would listen to radio in the past for a favourite comedy, drama, or science fiction programme. It also addressed the advent of the music video and MTV, which was then competing with radio as an important medium for promoting records. " The inspiration for this song came when Roger Taylor heard his half french son Felix utter the words "radio ca-ca" while listening to a bad song on the radio while they were in Los Angeles. :) ... other fact, Lady Gaga took his stage name from this song; she's a big Queen's fan :D

Queen was one of over 60 different musical performers that donated their performance to the Live Aid concert. Live Aid was a duel venue concert ( both in Wembley stadium outside of London & Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia) to raise money for the famine in Ethiopia. The concert began around noon in London and the Philadelphia venue of the concert joined in around 5 hours later, with satellite hookups around the world (something never tried before). They would broadcast performers in London (which would be shown on huge screens in the Kennedy stadiums) and then switch to showing a performance in Philadelphia (which would be broadcast on huge screens at Wembley), Through the satellite hookups, all of it was broadcast all over the world to over a billion and a half people. Queen's 20-minute spot started around 6:40PM London time. I believe David Bowie was the next performer on the Wembley stage after Queen. BTW - Hammer to Fall song is not about a woman. "The hammer falls" means "this is at an end" or as the song says, "We are all waiting for the hammer to fall".

Oh sweetie, I love how much you enjoy Queen. Yes, this is the event that cemented him and the band in rock history. When Band-Aid was planned, Queen were the old guys and weren’t expected to be a draw, what happened instead was that Queen was the only thing people remember from the concert. Here’s a few things you might find interesting, Band-Aid UK drew 72,000 attendees in stadium, but was viewed live on television by millions. Watch the audience when Queen sings Radio Gaga, the audience synchronizes their movements. It’s considered a rock and roll phenomenon, and has never been duplicated by such a large crowd. Freddie Mercury had a 7 octave voice which is a phenomenon and is the only recording artist on record with that wide a vocal range. You should watch the movie Highlander (the original Highlander 1986 film), all the music was choreographed by Queen and are some of the most brilliant songs ever. Though I’m sure you’ve been informed Radio Gaga was a song about the love of radio and not a dis on performers at all.

No the Bohemian Rapsody video you saw was from 1981 Montreal. This is '85 in London Wembley stadium. Freddie's Dr. advised him not to do the concert because of some throat infection. Also the crowd going crazy for them, didn't even know that they were participating. They joined the bill last minute when tickets had already sold. I'm sure there were Queen fans in the audience but by the end of the set everyone became Queen fans. They then went on tour in 1986, their last because of Freddie's illness. This live aid concert by Queen is considered the best rock performance of not only the night but in history of rock music. A lot of acts did not take so seriously and sounded like crap but queen, on the other hand, practiced for a week and timed perfectly and stuffed as many songs as they could in a 20 minute period. Try some songs next from the 1986 Wembley concert: Another one bites the dust, Who want to Live Forever, One Vision to start with

@@iChristyD sorry, it's a British insult. It refers to the end of a penis, which looks a bit like a bell, hence "bellend". We have some wonderful insults, like Twunt, Pillock, Pratt, Tosser. Say them like Sean Bean for maximum effect. 🤣🤣 Take care. I love this channel.

I wasn't even alive when this concert happened, but I was born a few years later and grew up hearing it through my parents records and on MTV. Even today, Radio Ga Ga still makes me feel every single emotion at once. Happiness, Sadness, Joy, Tears

parting question, have you not yet reacted to the Bohemian Rhapsody OFFICIAL VIDEO from 1975? Because that is where you see the young band's break thru moments (to me anyway). The video blew people's minds as until then most music vids were a band, standing, strumming and singing into a mic without moving around. Theirs broke that mold.

Status quo were a British band that had been going a few years and a bit older, just a crack at humour by the two comedians dressed as Police while the crew got the gear ready.

I sow this at TV when it happened live :) They collected money to the starving people in Ethiopia, 1985. And now the people starving again... Queen was the best band of them all, who was there. They did a comeback here.Their performance was perfection and is epic. Other artist just stood there singing but look at him❤️They're the best band in the world!

I remember watching this day, I was 6. It was one if those blazing hot days of summer here in London and I was playing in and out of the house as the music played on the TV but I remember coming inside to watch this and loving every minute! I miss Freddie! Queen is still awesome as a band but Freddie was the glue to the masterpiece that band is. Even at 6 I was blown away by everyone singing along, even my parents and thier friends were singing and you could hear the other houses in the close playing this on their TV!

There where times before the Internet. I am 50 years old now and I remember sitting in an attic in Sweden with some friends, trying to tune in to Radio Luxemburg, to get the latest music. Good music was not "just a click away", it took some effort to get it. That is what the song is about, when radio was "the thing". Also, here they play live - in front of a very big audience. I find it hard to imagine a bigger thing. And this is as good as it got - one of the greatest performances ever. I do not think playing live will ever get this big again. Besides that, Mercury had the greatest voice ever, at least for me. I consider Robert Plant or David Coverdale as second, but Mercury WAS the best.

Yes, this was their greatest appearance ever! QUEEN stole the show!!! There's so much information on all their songs and who wrote them. But you must see Bohemian Rhapsody the movie. It gives you some insight about him and the group. You would truly enjoy it. Freddie was so talented and so greatly missed! The group of 4 were the best. Watching the videos seems like they are still here. Their music is timeless and anyone can relate to their songs to this day. Thank you for your reaction to their music. 🥰

You are so right about the guitarist... so many of them don't show emotion on their face, and you said it - it's like their emotion comes out through their hands!! I never heard that before - you are really, really good at making these videos!!

Jojo I really enjoy watching you and hearing your reactions. You catch things many people don’t hear. Queen is the best and Freddie Mercury- untouchable! Check out about his childhood. It helps put Freddie in perspective and gives answers to meanings of the songs. Radio Gaga- about how radio could have been so much more back in the day. I’m about the same age as Freddie would have been today. That is all we had at night to sneak😆 and listen to. No headphones- .

Radio Ga Ga - ''The inspiration for this song came when Roger Taylor heard his son utter the words "radio ca-ca" while listening to a bad song on the radio while they were in Los Angeles. After hearing the phrase, Taylor began writing the song. He thought it would fit his solo album, but when the band heard it, John Deacon wrote a bass line and Freddie Mercury reconstructed the track, thinking it could be a big hit. Taylor then took a skiing holiday and let Mercury polish the lyrics, harmony, and arrangements of the song'' (Wikipedia)

Radio Gaga ...... it’s about Radio and it’s influence. So treat radio as a person or entity and it’s saying you are important and have been our friend all through the years and music has changed all through those years and when we hear radio Gaga , radio goo goo (people not listening or hearing as they hear blah blah) remember you are still important and still have a huge influence if you choose to stay relevant with an opinion. In those days we were just seeing new technologies ie internet didn’t really become a thing until late 80’’s early 90’s but still no smart phones. For you it would be like landing on an alien planet lol 😂

Just started watching your channel. Love it. Being an old dude born and raised in London, I was there at Wembley 1985. My dad took me. 72k people. At exactly same time a twin concert was being held at JFK Stadium in Philly, 90k people. Both concerts were viewed in 150 countries via satellite by1.9 billion people, I shit you not. That was 40% of the worlds population. Bear in mind this was before the Internet too. Roughly $300m raised. Keep up the vids !!

First, they were filling time while the crew changed over from one group to the other. And what these "police" were doing was a takeoff of the time the Beatles did their impromptu concert on the roof of their recording studios back in the '70s. Neighbors complained back then about the music. The reason Queen's set was a hit was because they were doing a set of their greatest hits at that time. Some of the other acts were inserting their newest stuff during their time on stage. Bohemian Rhapsody was written by Freddie and there is some meaning that has not really been told about it to this date. The second song is called Radio Gaga. It is about how radio has taken a backstep when videos came out. Roger Taylor (drummer) wrote this song. Hammer to Fall is the third song and it is about the waiting for the Cold War to heat up. Dr. Brian May (lead guitarist) wrote this. May is a doctor of astrophysics and some of his works have been used by NASA including a thesis on the way to measure distance & space of objects in space that he wrote before Queen hit it big.

The part of "Through Wars of worlds/Invaded by Mars" is in relation to the great War Of The Worlds radio broadcast on Halloween eve, October 30, 1938 by Orson Wells. It is known as the "night that panicked America". Back then, there was no television, so radio was the entertainment ruler. Orson Wells and his Mercury Theater crew produced a radio show of the H.G. Wells classic novel, The War Of The Worlds. The broadcast was so authentic that people really thought we were being invaded by Martians. The song, Radio Ga Ga, is a homage to radio. Telling it to not go away, to stick around when we grow tired of all the visual. The song was written by the drummer when his son, a toddler at the time, came out of his room after not finding anything on the radio he liked, saying "radio poo poo", which set the light bulb off over Roger's head.

I physically ran my entire milk delivery round to get home as early as possible to watch it. I was 15. Dad was a sound engineer and he had borrowed a very serious sound system from work (I now have those speakers - they cost more than a decent car). We watched this from 6pm on the big system and watched to the end with Freddie and Brian doing the encore.
