I agree! I also feel that the book was better than the film adaptation, so I am glad to hear that the play follows the book.

Also just saw Sweeney Todd this past weekend and I hope you can see it! That show is a well-oiled machine. Everything is excellent beyond measure. Sutton Foster gives a masterclass in comedic acting, Joe Locke is excellent and very emotionally compelling and there are a couple of other standouts for me: Maria Bilbao as Johanna is incredible -- and it's her debut -- and John Rapson as Beadle Bamford had my jaw on the floor every time he opened his mouth. The whole production is so tight, the music is fantastic...I say go straight there and be sure to get good seats. We were in the front box and it was fun to be so close.

So excited when you do your vlogs of NYC and what it is like staying for a week there and seeing so many shows with Arron. I hope you one day do a video about how you save/budget money wise to go to NYC as it is super expensive to go to New York. The video would be very helpful for those of us who want know how to have a wonderful trip but not break the piggy bank.

I saw Lempicka twice last week. First viewing I was unsure (but I was sat at the very back of the balcony and felt very disconnected from it!) However, second viewing I was centre orchestra and absolutely loved it. It's by no means perfect but my god the central performances are stellar. Amber Iman will blow your mind... every time she opened her mouth my jaw was on the floor!

I just watched the following last week: Sweeney Todd, Kimberly Akimbo, & Juliet, Moulin Rouge, Water for Elephants, The Notebook, The Great Gatsby The Notebook had me in tears within the first 5 minutes of the show. The Great Gatsby is what you would expect in a splashy Broadway production. The songs are catchy, the singing and acting are phenomenal, the sets and lighting are engaging (never seen moving cars on-stage before), and the dancing evokes sensual 20s angst. So good.

At Paper Mill Playhouse in New Jersey . Rumor has it “it’s coming in,” as we say. Meaning it will transfer to Broadway. Gun & Powder: is an adventurous, riveting musical inspired by the “mostly true” story of two sisters who stake their claim as legends to rule the Wild West. This Bonnie and Clyde story - with two Bonnies - features a roof-raising score by Angelica Chéri and Ross Baum, vibrant choreography by Tiffany Rea-Fisher, and direction by Tony Award nominee Stevie Walker-Webb.

Just got back and the current cast of Hadestown is FIRE. Ani Difranco as Persephone (who originated the role on the concept album). Jon Jon Briones as Hermes. His real life daughter Isa Briones as Eurydice. And I didn't know who Jordan Fisher (Orpheus) or Phillip Boykin (Hades) were before but they were both fantastic. Orpheus especially is a tough character to get right and Mr Fisher nailed it.

Very interested to get your take on The Who’s Tommy. It’s a bullet train of cinematic expression not typically found on a Broadway stage. This one ain’t no Notebook. You won’t have to dig deep to discover its morality tail as it’s right there in the lyrics and on full display. It asks for some faith in the journey and will have the volume up. So strap yourself in for a helluva ride.

I'm curious about the Tommy revival. I saw the Toronto production and the Canadian tour. This was during Toronto's heyday with musicals. The critics said it was identical to Broadway. I LOVED this show. I really loved how the score rattled along and kind of pulled you with it. Also, that production was very fluid with stuff moving around the stage. Anyway, enjoy!

Just got back from New York. The Outsiders is INCREDIBLE. Not sure if the book is as popular in the UK as it is in the US (practically every kid in America reads the book in school) so idk if you’ll have the same connection to the story as me, but WOW it is so good. The staging, lighting & special effects are unreal. The rumble scene is insane - one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen on a stage. You will love it! And as for Six - I saw this current Broadway cast twice on tour, they are amazing and I definitely think it’s worth seeing the show again just to see them!

I haven't seen The Outsiders yet but my vote is to put Suffs in the must see category. Great music and good story. I think it's the strongest score other than Stereophonic. There's too many new things to see but if time allows for one more trip to Kimberly Akimbo, I don't think anything is topping the magic of that cast. Off-broadway Oh Mary is an absolute riot and enormous hit. I have to imagine it'll transfer. It's a shame you'll just miss Dead Outlaw which I loved.

I have just got back to the UK from a trip to NYC (partly inspired by your recent trips) and had no intention of seeing Merrily but did decide to following your rave review and I am so glad I did…what an absolutely fantastic show! Thank you for the recommendation. I saw Sweeney Todd with Aaron, Sutton and Joe…amazing! Joe Locke was so sweet and played Toby with such heart. Aaron Tveit was a pleasant surprise as Sweeney but for me Sutton Foster stole the show - she was absolutely hilarious and me in stitches in all the right places. I also made it to the first preview of Cabaret. Of course, Eddie Redmayne was outstanding as expected! Gayle Rankin as Sally was also incredible and played her with such a rawness. Shout out to Steven Skybell and Bebe Neuwirth who played Herr Schultz and Fraulein Schneider respectively - they had such lovely chemistry on stage and I was honestly rooting for them the whole time. Wish I had time to see The Wiz and Kimberly Akimbo but alas I wasn’t able to.

I didn't hear you mention a possible return visit to Titanique? Don't know if you are Aeron have watched episodes of Friends but I know there is a musical parody of the show that has just opened. A meetup would be great! I'm only going to be in the NY area the 27th and 28th, though, but if you do somehow end up planning something then, I'll be there!

I'm missing you by a couple days (going up on May 1)! I plan on seeing Uncle Vanya (which I didn't hear you mention?!), Hell's Kitchen, Lempicka, Illinoise, Suffs, Tommy, and Appropriate. Edit: I echo the call for you to return to Six, and not just for Jasmine Forsberg. Each of the queens are phenomenal, but their chemistry as a group needs to be experienced. Also, I think they are the perfect cast for someone who has seen the show as much as you have. They're over 2 years deep performing these roles including the Aragon tour anf have gotten super creative in keeping it fresh for themselves. I thought I knew this show with this cast so well (saw them 3x on tour and again as soon as they went to Broadway) but I just returned to see them again and Khaila (Aragon) and Didi (Howard) in particular kept catching me off guard with new moments they've reworked with new energy. Can't rave about them enough!

A big YES to The Outsiders. Saw it last week and I’m planning on seeing it again next weekend (and I live in the US south so these are plane ride trips 😮‍💨) There is a scene in the second act called “the rumble” that is Tony worthy on its own. We are also seeing The Notebook, Gatsby and Cabaret. Looking forward to your reviews.

I saw Enemy of the People in the West End last week and I think a comparison video would be great! I also highly recommend the Matt Smith version- so thought provoking and inventive!

Illinoise is something I would be very interested to see your take on - the lyrical concepts, the choreography, the presentation.

Literally just got back from "The Notebook". Really sweet, and I loved how they used the 3 different ages of the characters throughout the entire show. I would be really interested in your thoughts! You don't need to watch the movie before. Just go and enjoy it for what it is. 💙
