Breastfeeding is actually such a difficult journey and it is mentally taxing. It is such a relief to stop when it is difficult but it is also sad. People don’t realize how emotionally involved us mamas get. All the love, you are and amazing Mom Shawn. A great dad Andrew!

6 1/2 years here with 3. Thankfully I only had to exclusively pump the forst 3 months then the rest never had a bottle an I was able to exclusively nurse. However,I will say, breastfeeding while pregnant is very hard mentally for me and I wish I could change that 😢

Shawn, it is so beautiful to see how much Andrew loves you. You can see it in how he looks at you and in the words he speaks. You have something only God could have built and I hope it will always be one of your greatest joys. Andrew, you are an awesome husband and daddy! Keep leaning on our God who knows our hearts! You two are wonderful.

It has been 45 years. It is still a touchy subject. I had ZERO milk. I felt devastated. It was so hard. Watching every other mom succeed where i failed. By my second and last child i had enough milk to feed 1 feeding a day for 3 months. I got a lot of condemnation the "breast is best " crew was so militant. I still carry that guilt. Feed your kid. Whatever you can. Dont feel this guilt.

My thoughts, after watching this video, went back to 40 years ago. My boys were breast fed, and although toward the end of the year, it was only mornings and nights, I still look back on that time in an "Andrew East kind of way". Nothing has surpassed the whole dynamic of breastfeeding, except when they became fathers. For myself, it was the singular time I was extremely aware how perfectly God made me. I even started a book of musings and devotions brought on by being a mother. To Andres and Shawn, yes, any future babies should be looked at from the perspective of future adults in your home. I am one of many siblings, and all I can tell you is, that individual time you lose bit by bit with more children, ends up drawing the children closer to one another. It introduces the older ones to that extraordinary love and protectiveness for the little ones, and gives the little ones great experiences of being loved on, and also loving others. Siblings are lifelong friends and teachers of one another. You probably will have more children, so don't EDIT make any definitive statements about it yet. When the time's right to either have another child or not, God will make it perfectly clear to you, so don't worry about it. God bless you and those adorable little East children.

I exclusively pumped with my first for the exact same reason. The fact you did it for 6 months is WILD! That’s amazing!! I made it like 3 weeks and I said - I’m good, she’s good, it’s all good, for my sanity I need to stop. Breastfeeding is hard, no matter how you do! ❤

This is such a great example of a great impact of KZbin for getting information out there that people often don’t talk enough about with young parents. It’s so important to share the rainbow of experiences because Every couple experiences, breast-feeding and breast-feeding challenges differently. In this kind of content helps them realize that they’re not alone and that there’s a lot of ways to get through this period in life. I think in the past people didn’t talk about these things very much where they talked about them after they happened. What’s great about how open you’ve been sharing your journeys with each kid is it starts conversations and helps people not feel if they can’t quite do it the way loud voices in society claim it should be done, etc. So thank you for being a conversation starter for those who sometimes don’t even know how to talk about a subject.

I have four kids and we travel all over with them and we LOVE IT! So if more is right, you’ll make it work, but I do have to say that it doesn’t have to be a big trip. They don’t care, they just want to be exploring with mom and dad. Actually, some of our simpler trips have been my very favorite. Save the world traveling for when they’re older and can appreciate it more and do weekends away in a hotel. We use to go to a hotel for the night that was only 30 minutes away because it had a water slide and breakfast, and the kids thought that was the best thing in the world. Making memories together is the important thing, not the miles you’ve gone.

Much love, Shawn. Thank you for being so open. My kids are 15 and 19 and I still get choked up when I think about how difficult it was to breastfeed. Clogged ducts, toe-curling pain, pumping one breast while nursing to try to improve my supply. I never made enough milk for my babies. Always had to supplement. Felt like a failure. I know better now. Fed is best. Love to all moms.

Just enjoy the journey - you’ll know when you know. And every stage as your children grow up is amazing! I have been through the baby stage, toddler stage, young children, preteen, teenagers, and now one adult and two teens. The best encouragement I had was once being in an airport with one of my babies and a gentleman admired the baby and then commented ‘just wait until they’re a teenager… it’s awesome’ 💕 And it’s true!! Not to say there aren’t hard things then too, but it is just as amazing as every other stage.

I appreciate y'all discussing this!!! 1. I'm a mastectomy mama and a previvor. I've never breastfeed but I personally don't feel like I missed out on breastfeeding because, I had the extra support from my wonderful husband to help share the load of feeding our boys. 2. Breast are not best, if mama is not around... this can mean something different for everyone. I had an 87% risk of getting breast cancer, so I chose to reduce my risks- preventive bilateral mastectomy... also my mom exclusively breastfeed all of us, and yet it wasn't enough to lower her breast cancer risks- she was 1st diagnosed at 37 died at 52. I want to be here for my children, so I have done all that I can to hopefully give myself a better chance. For some women- PPD and trying to breastfeed can be too much, FED IS BEST! Kudos to yall on your feeding journey! I love your family! Yall inspire me often! ❤ I also personally knew we were 2 and through, done having kids. I had challenging pregnancies and postpartum- so I knew we were done at 2. I'm happy that we can begin the next phase- journeys and adventures with our boys! It's bittersweet.

I was fortunate and blessed enough to produce so much milk that I pumped as well as nurse my boys and donated it to the NICU for newborns and my 3rd (last son) ended up having to be there for entirely too long (14 weeks 6 days) being a preemie it's so amazing how Andrew makes his feelings of gratefulness support and admiration for you so openly! No matter how many kids you have, you figure it out. If you had four each parent sits in the middle of a plane seat with a kid on each side. My husband and I had three under 4 when we traveled international for the first time with all of them. The traveling wasn't hard because we worked as a team. Tiring, yes, but not hard. I always tell people don't make decisions the first year or two after having a baby. It's such a big transition. Decisions are best made 18 months to two years later. Drew will be in school full-time, Jett will be in pre-school, and Bear will be the only "baby" at home. Adoption is also an amazing option, and it's so needed! You've had a hard few months, enjoy the next 6-12 without discussing adding another family member.

I have five babies. My girls couldn’t latch.. no one could help even lactation. I found a consultant who told me that girls had a tongue tie, got them clipped and after much work they nursed fine. It takes work but is so worth it. I pumped for six months with lots of babies and it’s SO hard. My fifth baby is the best nurser, which I prayed so much for… I know your struggle and it is so real. I feel the exact same about the connection with the baby. Turn to your faith and put God in control when it comes to “being done” with children. Your faith is strong let God control how many babies he sends you (NFP). God bless you.

I'm so sorry for your breastfeeding struggles, it's a journey for sure. I'd also look into getting your family tested for MTHFR gene mutation, tongue ties are common in those with MTHFR.

My 3rd wouldn't take any bottle but got thrush at 2 months and we struggled for 6 weeks and I had to force him to take a bottle and we found 1 specific kind and then grew amazing. Each kid is so different and those mamas that have perfect nursing babies every time are blessed.

I had SUCH a hard breastfeeding journey with my first. Tongue tie that had to be cut multiple times, latching problems, weight gain problems, supply issues, I worked with an IBCLC for 7 months. She would not take bottles. So when my second showed a few of the same issues, I was like F that! You a formula baby! I didn't even make it 3 full days. You made it so far, Shawn! That's so amazing

This is such a real comment 😂 we had these issues with our 3rd(ended up making it a year nursing) and now with my 4th. We have made it 3 months exclusively pumping and we’re done done. The mental stress is too much.

It also has to do with the needs of the child. My son was a premature child. He needed to eat every two hours and I couldn't keep up. Even though I tried. :)

I was not expecting how much work is breastfeeding. I took clases while pregnant and join breastfeeding communities in my town, still once I had my baby it was not enough. My milk supply was low and other issues. Thankfully there’s so much help (free) and I’m getting better at this. However I still had to supplement with formula just to make sure my baby is getting enough. So you doing it for that many months is already a big milestone.

It is a wonderful experience, and is so sweet to see Andrew so aware and invested in all that nursing stages and experience. How caring and supportive he is. It is right to stop when you feel ready and don’t feel bad about it. You guys are a great team.. And yes it is consuming, and exhausting, and yes the feeling is incredible full filling. Shawn don’t think about it, you are a great mom. ❤❤❤

Everything is going to be alright Shawn. You’re doing what you’re feeling is best and you have 3 beautiful children and a wonderful husband who loves being a father and wants to help in anyway he can is just amazing. You Shawn deserves a gold medal for being the best mother you can be so make sure you take care of yourself in every way possible because it’s so important. I think that the East family is the best family on KZbin. I love you guys…take care.

Shawn, you are a rockstar. It’s so hard with the nursing. I have been there. Society makes breastfeeding look so easy and ITS NOT! You should be so proud of yourself. I also had the shame you felt as well. I get it!

Yep! Exclusively pumped for all 3 of my kiddos! None of my kids latched well and there were other issues as well. It was tough! But I managed 1year for my first, 7mos for the 2nd and 5mos for my last. I did the best I could and I am proud of what I was able to do! And it’s ok to be sad that your pumping journey is done - It’s very bittersweet for sure.

I just want to say how much I absolutely love watching your videos and absolutely love you guys and your content! And your comments about not having to breastfeed made me so happy and was nice to hear. When I found out I was pregnant my first and only thought was I did not want to breastfeed. I had no hmmm and haws no other ideas or thoughts about it. Doctors kept asking me and I would continue to say No I don’t want to breastfeed. I have a son who is 22 and is the best! Could go on and on about him ❤ but Just can’t thank you guys enough for just being you and having insight on every topic you discuss.

Watched this while washing pump parts and sippy cups, thank you for sharing the struggles. I’ve also faced tongue ties and not having a comforting/bonding nursing relationship which lead me to exclusively pump at 6 months. My goal is to reach her first birthday with exclusively my milk and I’m 10 weeks away ❤️ it’s the hardest journey I’ve ever embarked on, but I’m so grateful for it.

I exclusively pumped for 11 months with my second... I'm 5 months in exclusively pumping with #3 and contemplating quitting because I want my body back after having our last kid. You're a Rockstar because it's a lot of work! None of my babies transferred enough while nursing despite doing all the things

Give yourself grace and be proud of yourself mama! I can relate I had to stay in the hospital after baby was born and so I exclusively pumped and by the time i was released he was so used to the nipple on the bottle he wouldn’t latch anymore. It was the hardest I felt like it was my fault which in reality I know isn’t the truth so I exclusively pumped for 13 months. It’s so much but look at your journey. You’ve learned a lot. I was able to nurse my 2nd and she quit cold turkey 3 months before she turned 2 and requested apple juice. You’re amazing mama!

I had the same. First had latch issues so I pumped for him and supplement with formula when I started to dry. 2nd nursed no issues and had extra. 3rd was nursed until I went back to work then pumped, formula at the end because I dried up. Agreed... fed is best, fed is what is important. As long as they get what they need to grow.

As I’m watching this l, I’m currently pumping. I nursed my first 2 kids without issue then exclusively pumped for a year for my 3rd and exclusively pumping for my 4th. 5 months nursing/pumping is awesome and should be celebrated. Way to go!!!!!

My body is the same way! I have a crazy oversupply at the beginning and within that first month make a ton of milk. Then it regulates and does well until 6 months and I completely dry up. I freeze a ton to try and save that for the 6 month mark but it doesn’t last long and I always end up formula feeding then. I too have 3 kiddos, (oldest is a girl, and two boys) and have had them all about the same time apart as you guys (my oldest is 5 in August). I love that you’ve shared your journey about breastfeeding. I know it is so controversial and the opinions of others are LOUD, but you both are amazing parents and did what was best for your children! ❤

The movement you're saying Bear does is exactly how my son was. He has CMPA (cows milk protein allergy). We switched his milk to non dairy and he changed pretty immediately! We now still use the prescribed milk but feed him dairy in his foods and currently having no problems. ❤(Hes 9 months now)

Good job! My first had such a painful latch and I switched to exclusively pumping and everyone was happier. 2nd couldn’t nurse due to aspirating so pumped again. With the 3rd we had a groove figured out and as a working mom I had to pump anyway so pumped again.

So true, breastfeeding is no joke! My 4th baby was the most difficult to nurse…and because of that, he was our last lol! I cried so much and still made it to 10 months with that baby after nursing my 3rd baby past one year.

Shawn you did great! My first was formula fed from day one. My second wouldn't latch at all and it was during 2020 so I didn't have much help so I pumped for a year, it was beyond crazy hard. Now my 3rd is almost 6 months and nursing like a champ! Every journey is different but as long as your baby is happy and growing that's all that matters!

Thank you so much for sharing! I'm currently exclusively pumping. Our son is 12 weeks old. My goal is also to pump at least until the 6 month mark, but at the same time not pressuring myself too hard! I also have lots of milk in the freezer to the point that there is no more space 🙈. I 100% feel you and your journey! ❤

We all have very different journeys. You did great! It sounds like you worked really hard at it. I was fortunate enough to have breastfeeding be a breeze. I found it to be much easier than bottles. I never pumped so no washing bottles etc. I nursed my first for 18 months and my second for 8 months (her choice not mine lol). Your kids are adorable and you’re obviously great parents!
