I'm Done Buying Expensive Tools

Hey everyone! In this video, I’m sharing why I’ve decided to stop buying expensive tools. I’ve realized that when an expensive tool breaks, I have a hard time letting it go. Instead of just replacing it, I keep trying to fix it-even when it’s clearly not working anymore.
So, from now on, I’m switching to more affordable tools. That way, when they break, I won’t feel bad about tossing them and buying a new one. No more emotional connection to tools that are past their prime! This change will save me time and hassle in the long run, and I won’t get stuck trying to fix something that’s better off replaced.
If you’ve ever struggled with hanging onto broken tools, this video might be for you! Don’t forget to like, subscribe, and leave a comment about your tool-buying habits. Let’s talk about making smarter choices when it comes to HVAC gear!

You need top quality tools for doing electrical work. Home Depot tools are good for general maintenance.

Tools have to be as good not hurt you when using them, be good at what they are made for and not to anger you while using them. It might hurt when buying an expensive tool, but if this save use pain during use, it is worth it.

FINALLY the voice of common sense when it comes to tools. As long as it does the job you need it to do it is a good tool.

For me I find it silly to have a bag full of a variety of screwdrivers. I just have a screwdriver handle that can accept impact bits (Malco Context3) and have some extensions and bits at the ready. Saves bag space and can use any bit that’s needed.

I agree with this for general usage. But sometimes you need a nice big flathead screwdriver for prying or you need insulated screwdrivers for electrical, or you're in some situation where you can't have the bit falling out of the screwdriver, or you have to get into a very narrow spot where a bit in a holder won't fit, etc. There are a bunch of situations where a handle + bits are not optimal.

This is why craftsman was such a good brand. Decent quality and if it breaks there is a place to warranty it everyone. To bad the days of sears are over.

Being in Canada, I use Mastercraft for screwdrivers, they're awesome. But for nut drivers I always use Klein. With Huskey I find the ends of the drivers don't grip the fasteners well.

If you have enough space in your equipment to work on i use an interchangeable bites with a 1/4 screwdriver and i only buy the bits, i only keep a few of insulated screwdrivers for electric work...

I'm union so the company buys "all" my tools so my bag is mostly what the supply houses stock. Lot of Klein and Knipex. But I do keep a few personal tools around that have proven their value to me personally. Biggest selling point for me is how it feels in my hand.

That's all good if it works for you, I can't use cheap screwdrivers if I'm using them for long periods... the handles just hurt the hands... I like Klein for a reason.

Get a set of hex bits/driver for hex head screws, they are far better than screwdrivers on those.

Yes a screwdriver is a last resort. He is complaining about his tools while not using the correct ones. They make screwdrivers with striking caps. Wera are good screwdrivers but not the way you are abusing them. Use hex drivers for hex screws and get striking cap screwdrivers to beat on. Easy peasy.

The worst thing is spending like 30 bucks on a single screwdriver like a Klein and then leaving it somewhere after a week of using it. I actually really like klein tools but at the end of the day a screwdriver is just a screwdriver and when you can get a whole kit of like 20 mastercraft ones for the same price as one klein one and have them last just as long if you don't beat the crap out of them it's kinda hard to argue the worth of a single $30 screwdriver lol

First, Those are Wera demo screwdrivers you’re trying to use as regular screwdrivers Anyhow, Worked in HVAC/R/BAS for near 25 years and would say it honestly depends what side of the business you are in. When I started I was doing furnace, boiler and AC installations. We would go through tools like crazy, either beaten into submission or losing them on day to day jobs. So we just used Home Depot brand cheap stuff. Once I started getting into service, I really had to think about how to organize my EDC, what I needed when I just walked 4 city blocks to get to my customer. Now all I buy is high end stuff for my EDC but then now im working on high end stuff so I figure why not treat yourself and be comfortable with the wrenches and screwdrivers I’m turning every day. You only live once.

To fix that screwdriver just use a grinder and grind it down a little flatter

DANGER! Those screw drivers where the metal comes through the handle are extremely dangerous for any electrical work. If you touch a live connection with your hand or a finger on the driver handle end while grounded with your other hand, well you get the idea. Believe it or not, Harbor Freight has the 'Icon' set for $50 and they get good reviews. Part of Harbor Freight's move into higher quality tools.

File it with a grinder it’ll be good as new. It may even fit in the grooves better. I would buy all expensive tools and to find out I don’t even use them half the time. I am also done buying expensive tools stick with the mediocre brand tools that way is lost or broken. It is not a huge loss

That's not a screwdriver, that's a prybar. If you really need to drive slotted screws, look into hollow ground ones - those actually fit in screw slots, tapered ones just kiss and mar the top edge.

PB Swiss. You’re welcome. But seriously, decent brands come with a lifetime warranty. If the Husky’s work, great but how well do the tips fit the fasteners? How do the grips feel? When you buy something of quality with a warranty like a PB Swiss, I would say in the long run you spend less, and have a better experience. I’m old and that’s my bit of wisdom. But you do you. I’m not a big Wera fan FYI.
