There was nothing to protest in 2014. Michael Brown was a large thug who robbed a store. When the police officer attempted to peacefully talk to Brown, he attacked the officer and tried to take the officers gun. This was while the officer was sitting in his patrol vehicle. The gun discharged stinking Brown in the hand. Brown then ran and the officer gave chase. Brown turned and charged toward the officer. That is when the officer shot Brown one time. At the time several people gave false versions of the event, including one person who said Brown had his his hands up. That is where the "Hands up, don't shoot" came from. However, more people described the events as the officer stated. AND, the physical evidence, including an audio recording, supported the officer's version.

A decade? This type of behavior has been going on for at least 50 years that I know of. I'm 72 and when I was 6 years old I could have safely walked anywhere in town at 3:00 in the morning. The Supreme Court has consistently ruled throughout history that the First Amendment protects American's right to assemble and express their views through protest, so yes protesting is a right. However, blocking traffic, destroying property, assault, and the various other crimes frequently committed at protests are CRIMES, and it's shameful that that those crimes have frequently gone unpunished by our government over the last 10 years, and protestors have begun to think that kind of behavior is acceptable. It's even more shameful that elected representatives have helped raise funds to assist those criminals when they do get arrested!

I agree, I'm totally with you on this! This police department (as well as many others around the country) has been so out of control for so long it's about time the citizens fight for the policing they want in their communities! Did you know at one point in Ferguson, they had more than 16,000 outstanding arrest warrants? That was about 75% of the entire town's population. The Department of Justice had shown that the police there were unconstitutionally targeting low income and minority residents with constant fines, tickets, and arrests solely to harass and intimidate residents and to generate revenue to pay for more policing. It's about time we finally end this over policing of our communities!
