Yeah, maybe an old school reggae series. I don't do reggae very much, but when I do, it's stricktly old school, mighty diamonds, LKJ, Rankin Ann and those old dub artists.

Awesome to learn others' preferences in trich, love the chubby ones you’ve got! I tend to like very glaucous perus and Peru hybrids with bright areoles and redder spines. I’ve got a sharx x juuls that I can’t wait to see grow up! Love the videos and cacti, you rock! 💛🌵

I really hardly have any perus, except probably some hybrids. If you like red spines, I grew some seeds open pollinated pach from Matucana peru that tend larely toward medium sized red spines, super fat and many ribbed. They are very pretty. I'm assuming a lot are pach/peru hybrids. Some show out more like a pretty standard pach, but the majority are more along those lines. I saved out a few and a friend that came over took only a few cactus, but he grabbed the last two of those lol. I should have a new batch this next season. I saved a couple, just because they look so cool.

I'll keep an eye out, thanks for the heads up! Definitely growing an appreciation of the chunkier spineless. I've got a heynes x zed scop that is slowly becoming a favorite. Hope to buy a clone of one of your favorites some day.

Nice video👍 Beautiful plants🌵 Those short spine terscheckii look like there crossed with Scopulicola. They don’t normally have short spines.

supposedly south australian short spined tersch, with scop. I think the short spined tersch is probably already a scop x tersch cross. I actually cut that thing and grafted a ton of them. It was hard to do, but now there will be a bunch of them and more propagation material at the end of next year.

Would love some more talk on biochar. I've made a lot... Most of it I haven't crushed or broken down too much.
@TeamWachuma
@TeamWachuma 11 күн бұрын
I like to crush it down to about corn kernel sized and smaller. Just however it comes out, but with not much larger than that. I don't mind some larger pieces, but I don't think the roots can use them much. I have more stuff on char on my other channel @skillcut I have a playlist on there of biochar related vids.

Great looking stuff and setup. I like the hydrofarm square pots.... available in several sizes, sounds like it might be what you need.
@TeamWachuma
@TeamWachuma 7 ай бұрын
Thanks. I have rarely seen square pots that are very close to what I have in mind. Most have a pretty sharp taper that makes them unstable for heavy cactus. I'd like very little taper, which also means more soil for the roots per footprint of the pot. There are some problems to grapple with though around handles, grips of some kind or to have a rim or not. If the cactus are packed in together very close, it could be hard to pull one up and out of the block.

Can you grow more TBM-A, TPM, Psycho, icaro, sharx blue, althea, Sauage, CSD, Kates bridgessi, ogun and its crosses i would love to see these on the seedling list
@SkillCult
@SkillCult Ай бұрын
I only have a few of those. Most of them would not be things I'd be excited to use in breeding. Kates in my experience is not all it is alleged to be. Does TBM-A actually ever flower? Is that the short or long? I have the short only. For now, all my seed is sourced from other people. I have had crosses with ogun, althea, tpm and sharx before.

Have you looked into tissue culture for rapidly growing out large numbers of clones? From what I understand, succulents lend themselves well to it. I read the book "Plants from Test Tubes" which has some good information on how to go about it relatively simply and inexpensively at a hobby scale.
@TeamWachuma
@TeamWachuma 7 ай бұрын
Yes, but I'm not inclined to do it myself. I have had offers from people to do it for new daffodil and apple varieties, but I'm not sure how cost effective it would be.

Curious as to what you like for fertilizing your cactus, how much, how often. I'm growing in a similar ratio of biocchar, same species.
@TeamWachuma
@TeamWachuma 11 күн бұрын
The easiest and cheapest thing is just pee. It is very high in plant nutrients, including lots of trace minerals, all soluble, it's free and the supply just keeps coming lol. If you run out, you're either dead or will be soon :) Otherwise, either a balanced liquid fert like 5-5-5 or a slightly nitrogen heavy one are fine and easy to use and apply. something like doctor earth brand, made from digested ag and food waste. I like to add kelp extract at least once a year too.
@TeamWachuma

In the growing season as often as every 3 or 4 weeks is good. I think you could do more even with adequate watering, depending on how much you are putting on at a time..

Yeah, basically ha ha. When I first got into cactus I thought I'd be working with mostly pachanoi, but now it looks like scop hybrids mostly. They seem relatively hardy too, which is important where I live. We'll see. If you got some good ones lets trade :D

Dude where do I buy your apples
@TeamWachuma
@TeamWachuma 11 күн бұрын
Nowhere lol. I am not even a producer and they are just getting out into the world. Eventually some small orchards might start growing and selling a few. otherwise you have to grow them yourself. Up until this year that only happened by grafting them yourself, but I'm working with Cummin's Nursery and my friend Chris Homanics grew some trees that might be for sale this winter. Best follow my other project, @skillcult to find out about all that.

@@TeamWachuma ah man , I figured there was no way to buy them bulk , but jeez it looked delicious, for what ever reason breeding apples is something that never crossed my mind , I love apples and iv made my own crosses of a few plants but for what ever reason I never even considered selective breeding of fruit trees it's fascinating and it seems like you are creating something truly unique
