I've officially started crabbing again this season! I have to finish up the FV Southern Girl, my crabbing trailer, and get my crab pots over to the marina to load up on the boat. The crab stand is done and opening this Saturday for the first time. It's been weeks of prep and we're finally throwing crab pots in the water!

Have you ever thought about using a rake on the side of the boat to grab the pots? Basically you ride past the float, the rake grabs the line and pullls it up, much less work, and man power.

Luke you need to do your shirts/apparel with DTF yourself and not preorder a ton from Cali. If you’re interested let me know, I’ll tell you how to do it yourself and pocket all the extra income…seriously…could be as much as $5-10 per shirt in your cost. Nothing in it for me just wanna see yall succeed.

hey Luke, as an old man, to a young man, get a small note book to keep in your back pocket. it's difficult to get in the habit of writing things to remember each day, but it keeps you from doing the work twice, or making multiple trips.😅 i hope you and your men have a safe and bountiful season sir.

Vice Grip Garage, Cleetus McFarland, Gentry and Sons Trucking, MN Millenial Farmer, and this channel are my main ones I watch consistently. I enjoy guys that start off as regular folks like you and persistently chase success without letting it go to their heads. Remaining humble and doing the right things when no one is looking is paramount. Your t-shirts are sharp, maybe you can get ole Cleetus to tell you about ship station and take your merch online. Being in South Carolina, I am not exactly around the corner and can stop by. I know you have to crawl before you walk, but just food for thought there.(no pun intended)

All these channels are perfect examples of getting too big and losing some audience. Take Cletus. It used to be something regular dudes could do, then it was 50k dollar parts, now it’s fucking helicopters. Out of touch. I really hope this doesn’t happen to Luke. The comment about buying crabs to sell worries me though. Is it going to become Luke the Crab Stand owner instead of Luke the Crabber?

Not only is she the cutest but the attitude is great. I got a kick out of the two of you on the boat and you talking about moving to Florida and her reply was to drop anchor and welcome home. Love the videos and the best luck to your marriage and happiness.

You never talk politics, which I appreciate. It’s all about, being a crabber and what it takes. You guys are doing the work and we are simply watching on KZbin, but you make it fun. Keep it up and have a great season!

I'm not saying that you are my favorite creator, you are the most relatable to myself being a self employed carpenter using 30-40yo wore out stuff. I love everything you have going on and I think the only thing you need to change is the number in your bank account. Your ambition and absence of fear to fail needs to spread to some more folks. You're giving inspiration to others and everything you do helps someone else get a little less scared of doing the unknown. Keep up the hard work crabber ('s)

48:42 Luke! Don't bend over to drag the crab pots. Make a hook with a T handle to drag the crab pots across the floor! Make it Y shaped on the other end, so you can hook two places on the pot and spread the load and not stretch the wire cage. At the milk processing plant, we used T handled hooks (approx. 36 inches long, 1/2" diameter with 3/4 inch black pipe T handle) to drag cases of milk stacked 6 high across the cooler floor and trailer floor.

As soon as I read T Hook, I though "that's how I used to drag stacks of milk around the grocery store"

@@phonedave Only way to move milk, if it's not palletized. In the cooler, the floors were diamond plate steel, and with practice... you could drag the stack off the conveyor, spin and sling the 6 case stack 20 foot to its resting area. (in the winter time, we'd be on the back dock, and go into the cooler to get warm!😮) Good times, good memories... but I sure was glad when I came out of the cooler and became a pasteurization operator.

My dad always had a quote for us boys growing up, one of wich I never understood until I was around 28, he said "never get so caught up trimming the tree that you forget to rake the leaves." I'll save you the riddle headache. In other words don't focus on something small and forget about the big picture. Alot of small things can railroad your major goal. Be safe out on the water and may God bless your every adventure.

Luke, an idea for future transome access: Make the top portion hinge on the side (like the access into a bar) and hinge the rear panel to fold down/outside (if you beef it up, you could walk up it). Also, you really need to dress up your roof line with a drip edge (like 1x6 plastic wood) to keep the water from wickin under & into your plywood.

A stick suck as a rake handle with a hook on the on the end may make moving the pots on the trailer easier. Hook the bottom pot without bending down and drag it across the trailer while using one hand to stabilize the top pots. This is how people move milk crates around warehouses

Most YT channels that I watch regularly have a cast of characters. It's not what they do, but the interaction between the people on camera. There is a car KZbinr named Mat Armstrong. He started with just himself on camera. He's a positive guy like you. He works hard, but his channel took off when he incorporated his Dad, girlfriend, friends and camera man into the content. It really adds to the entertainment of the channel. Good Luck out there!

Luke that boat stand is sweet man. I think you should definitely extend the counter all the way down not to the bow but to the doorway of the cabin. Can't go wrong with plenty of counter space, Then once you have the counters built you should build up a little form around the counters and just pour some clearcoat polyurethane as a countertop you can put cool stuff in there before you pour the polyurethane like hooks and fishing stuff. Heck You probably could even take some big number one males set them on the counter and then pour the clearcoat polyurethane in on top of them. I don't know how that would actually work but you could always get some fake realistic toy crabs and do the same thing

Luke, being in the ocean is like being in constant winter in the rust belt on the equipment. As a rust belt mechanic, when i have a line to take off,i alwaus spray with GOOD penetrating oil (Thrust from Castle just NOT WD-40) tap the fitting with your purse (hopefully that means a real hammer to you) and spray it some more. Do the other stuff to get the job done, and then hit it again, spray it, and wrench it. If it doesnt work, it gets some heat. Most things are just heated to cherry before you even attempt to loosen them. Obviously, a hose fitting cant be unless you want to replace the hose end, and if you do, why even bother trying to get the old one off.

(more mechanic stuff, plus cool random builds), Cleetus McFarland (hell yea brother), and various random Gaming channels. Oh plus this one, clearly.

I watch FarmCraft101, Vice Grip Garage, C-Boys Tv, and many others , what keeps a youtube channel thriving in my opinion is the personality and entertainment of the person or people behind the camera. I enjoy your Honesty, Humility and Hard work ethic. Keep on Keeping on Luke

Simple Living Alaska, VGG, Matt's Off Road, numerous gardening channels. I've really enjoyed this series of fixing the boat and the stand. It has been much more like how my husband and sons fix things around the house. My Dad worked at an auto repair shop, and we went to work with him quite often. I still love the smell of bondo. I really enjoy watching videos that are more real and less staged. What you do looks so much more like real life, and you're positive and upbeat, which is key when genuine. I'm looking forward to seeing what's next. Sending support, love, and kindness from Lexington, MI, USA.

You asked what KZbin channels we like. Dearmeat for dinner, Brad Owen, and you are my only favorite KZbin channels. People that are serious about what they do, and are all around good people! Born and raised on the ocean so I love everything related to the ocean, and I love cards!

backing up around the power line with that trailer... underated skill that was just glossed over. I watch all of Jacob Knowles vedeos as well. He does main lobster. Talks a lot about the fishery and cool things they catch, not just the 24/7 grind to make it happen.

As an older guy that was brought up on NASCAR and restoring cars as some have already said Cleetus aka Garrett Mitchell is a go to. Then during covid through Chateau Diaries (this KZbinr is always upbeat and positive) I started watching Escape to Rural France. A guy much like Luke named Dan who never stops working. He purchased a burnt out Chateau and works non-stop to restore it. His channel just hit the 500k subs. Cutting out cable TV these guys made the lockdown bearable so I continue to watch their content.

Ironic you ask...I was just watching Sailing Parlay Revival, with Colin and his crew. You and Colin always hit me as incredibly approachable and comfy on camera. When it comes that natural, it makes you instantly relatable. He has amazing content! I've been following him for close to 8 years now! Check him out!

My grandfather who hand built crab pots for both himself as well as all of the locals in low country SC used to tell me that one had to make the bait trap as tight as possible using either screening,or plastic sheething to prevent the water currents from stripping the chummed or ground bait from the trap before the crabs could find it...

Like the only time I've been to a gym just every time I have to cancel my membership. Been there so many times lol. Keep up the great work man. Good luck this evening. Stay safe!

Luke, Pole barn Garage, Junkyard Digs, Dawid does tech Stuff, CarsandCameras, Andrew Camarata, and Vice Grip Garage. I consider all of these "Guys who just make things work" any good channel with clear audio and a focus on reminding people good enough can be great, even if its just for today, is probably something I would watch regularly. I actually started watching luke because I grew up in Md, and spent alot of weekends recreational crabbing with my dad. the fact he also is a guy who just makes things work kept me around.

Also where you made the door at the back of the boat, consider cutting off that center post and adding a 2x12 or similar to make it a step and not a trip edge, since most of your traffic through there will be with hands full, you dont need the trip hazard if you can help it

In 1984 I was working on Shrimping Boats in Freeport Texas, I went to jump from the dock onto a boat and the only set of keys I had to everything fell off my belt and right into the water so I got a large magnet and found them in like ten minutes! God I was so greatfull!!!

Luke, when you've got seized hydraulic lines like you had, leave the motor mounted (as you figured out), and then instead of a 6 foot pipe, just grab a 5lb hammer and hit the box end of the wrench. The impact will get it off a lot easier than a bar.

Just a thought. For display purpose, what about fake food blue crabs to show sizes. (if they make different sizes) Or find a way to pour (mold) clear resin over the right size to display. Make a display case or make a single block of resin that fit all 3 sizes. (or 2 sizes if you don't want to keep the small ones anymore.) 🦀🛥
