I skate. I’m a dad. Not teaching your children skatepark etiquette is child abuse lol. Dropping your scooter kid off at the park and leaving is neglect. Merry Christmas and congrats on the kid.

i was at the same park john is in this video and there were so many little kids there rollerblading, scootering, biking, and some were even skating. it genuinely kinda aggravated me but you can't freak out on them bc they're little kids so you just gotta chill
@jasonharris52015 ай бұрын
I completely agree with that. Leaving your kids alone and not watching them play, in today’s time. Sounds like they are asking for trouble. Parents don’t understand, their kids can get seriously hurt at a skatepark.
@chriscabell38975 ай бұрын
John, you have more patience than most, you’ll be a great dad! Yes, most parents don’t know the flow of a skatepark. They would never just let their kids wander through the swim lanes and water aerobics classes, because the parents know how swimming pools function. It’s probably going to take another generation for ‘skate parents’ to become more common.
@mr.spaceman71065 ай бұрын
@@chriscabell3897 This has got to be the most level headed take on this I've ever seen. As much as I agree, my parents knew how dangerous skateparks could be when I was 5-6 like 17-18 years ago, and they know nothing about this kind of world. You definitely need to pay attention

John, you seem so much more enthusiastic and i think that it's the secret to get better at anything. At the end these days make the difference in your progress. Keep killing it 👍

John you're too nice my man lol. Parents can and should teach their kids skatepark etiquette immediately. You just have to be an active participant with them and these parents want to be lazy and drop their kids off somewhere that they shouldn't be alone. It's rude and bad parenting. I'm 36 with 2 kids. I taught them skatepark etiquette immediately. It's for their safety and others, plus it's rude not to. You can do it in a kind, caring, yet firm way which isn't yelling at your kids. It's just giving them guidance.

I feel fortunate to get to witness a part of your journey and the ups and downs that comes with life. You've given me inspiration, motivation, and comfort on more occasions than I could possibly guess. I feel a sense of pride to see that you've gained a goal and sense of purpose in light of a tragic accident. I'm so sorry about Kechaud. I distinctly remember that video of him that you posted at the Vans park and it's so sad that he's gone so soon. He was an incredible skateboarder and the whole community lost a great person. I’m a dad of two daughters. My four year old skates with me at skatepark (brea skatepark) and I’m absolutely teaching her to keep look out and to be courteous. My biggest problem is the PTA moms that just throw their kids into the park and act like everyone else is supposed to get out of their kids way.

So this park is actually my home park. I love it, but it was built in an area that is primarily middle class families that didn't grow up in sports like this. They see skateparks as just any other playground, so they seem to think its a babysitter for them and fail to understand or teach their children the proper respect and etiquette that's required in that environment. My 6yo son and I frequent this park REGULARLY when the weather is decent(Texas ifykyk) and there are certain times of day that the park is unskateable because of all the kids. This is great little spot and I love seeing bigger names frequent the parks in my area!

I'll never give up at skateboarding. I have days where it's fustrating when I can't land a no comply 180 frontside. I know that I'll eventually do it. I'm real positive and I'm the one telling others they can land tricks. Skating has helped me a lot. I have survived trauma and skating has taught me that I have control how I respond to it. In a way it's taught me to cope with life's uncertainties. It's also increased my pain tolerance. Thank God I haven't gotten a serious injury only because me personally I wear protective gear and a helmet. It's a personal choice. If I ever have kids, they won't be getting in the way of skaters. I'll teach them not to.

Scooter kids is the main reason I quit skateboarding. Same in the skateparks in germany. The parents dont know the unwritten rules in a skatepark. I think it is our mission to be a cool guy and explain the rules in the park. The kids dont know, that they are doing anything wrong, they are kids. And when the locals are bad to the kids and scream at them, there will be no solution. The only way is to be nice and be a role model. Go to the kids, explain the rules, give them your board and show them something. One week later they are coming with skateboards to the park and cheering at you, as a idol. The key sentence is: Treat other people the way you want to be treated, not only at the skatepark.

Ok I have twin 6 year olds so this is near and dear to me. I've brought them with me to the skate park since they were 3. I taught them etiquette. But what is more important is teaching the parents there (that probably dont skate and never have) ettiquette. My kids screw up sometimes and thats ok. Which is why I usually try to go when no one is around. And many parents are receptive when I tell them what they should teach their kids, look both ways, dont snake people, look where you are going, dont literally lay on the floor at the bottom of ramps.....But I gotta say man, these other parents just dont give a Fuuuuuuu......and it shows. Their kids are some of the worst little shiiiiii......'s I've ever seen. They straight up dont listen. Which is why when they do get hurt, and they do, I just make it a point to stare at them with my hands up and a smile like "bro I told you so".
