Hey Doug. I live in North Dakota, just outside of Montana. I play in a small one or two table room for 2/3 or 2/5. Although, normally there are so many straddles that it's like 2/5/10 every hand. They never want to fold. They all play super loose. I wasn't sure how to compete. I know it's better to play tight in a loose game, but even so I would bet the best hand on the flop, and no matter what people won't fold. So against 4-5 opponents the best hand on the flop isn't usually going to be the best by the river. However, I have been watching your videos daily, studying the game hard, and it has been 3 weeks now since I had a loosing session. I'm up 6k this month and that's nothing to you, but a big deal to me. Thanks for all your uploads.

Doug actually probably isn't the best person to do that video. No offense to Doug, but that's not where he's spent most of his career, and there are many, many players including former online players who have significantly more hours put into live poker than he does. I'm not talking strategy either, watching Doug's strategy videos will prepare you well for live poker. In general the major thing a lot of online pros struggle with when transitioning to live poker is the "professional" part of being a poker pro. Online poker is basically a video game and you never have to communicate anything. Live poker is a very social experience, there is a culture, a community, and yes even an underworld attached to it. Online players struggle a lot with many aspects of this and a lot of what they struggle with is difficult to articulate in brief, but I think you can get the idea. But in brief things like: how to get invited to private games, how to negotiate rakeback, how to find a backer for live games, how to identify a "good game" quickly from the rail, how to minimize costs when traveling for games, etc. Stuff that Doug has largely never had to worry about. One reason I say Doug would not be well equipped to do those videos is because Doug was already very poker famous from online poker when he started playing big buy-in tournaments and going to these invitational cash games. So he's had a very different experience than most players transitioning from online to live would.

Hey Doug , great video as always. Im curios about what would you have done if villain checks the river after raising the turn on KQ hand. Would you turn your hand into a bluff ?
@dochmbi7 жыл бұрын
I like the snapfold by Baker here, it's a good fold against the population who never bluffs here and that's what a live grinder does best, play against population reads. But yeah, re-raising on the river would be so awesome!!
@burnln27185 жыл бұрын
Fuck I had such a long comment saying it was a terrible fold. I'll do a quick TLDR. he was at the top of his range. Betting action pre flop dictates Doug did not have pocket sevens or eights let alone Kings or aces. All Baker would worry would be a combination of 3 hands, 67 Suites, 78, suited or MAYBE 7,9 SUITED. And with the 7 and 8 out there as key blockers the real hand he'd have to worry about is AK. So now you're worrying about one hand mostly. Sure you're thinking you're most likely chopping, but I'd take the chop odds every time than folding.

Doug when you conclude that an 8 is a good card with which to bluff, I'm wondering is that something where you have that scenario pre-programmed or are you deciding in the moment? Dear Doug, how much of your play in the 2nd hand was based on your insight into David Baker as a player? I LOVE the bluff jam with top pair on the first hand. Not fully in love with the bluff on the 2nd hand and I think your title speaks itself speaks to the danger with this sort of play, although in this instance, it certainly worked out. The biggest thing I can take away from this video is to consider polarizing your range with sizing, which I think you do very nicely in both hands. Pretty rare to see someone bluff with top pair so I really like that unconventional play.

Hi doug! Thank you for your videos and as always very interesting hearing you talking about strategy! You are always very inspirational and i am very thankful of what you are offering to the poker community. Thank you Doug! Speaking about my self, I am a Supernova on stars playing cash games and i am very thankful for all that i learnt from you and your videos. I am a winning 50nl player with 6-7bb/100 winrate and hoping to move up to highstakes one day. I'm creative with my play and bluffs, and i am one of the few regs having a positive redline (non showdown winnings) so i get creative with my bluffs and exploit other regs by doing so. What i am really concerned with is that my bluff % is probabilly a bit high and exploitable by better players than me. So what i wanted to ask is how do i develop my game from here to highstakes. Could you give me and others in my situation some insights on how we should unexploitabilly construct value and bluff ranges? I often get on big swings because of me not knowing 100% of how opponents are reacting to my strategy and in some weird spots i would like to know how to apply GTO appropriately and avoid big mistakes. Thank you Doug! Wish you the best

The formula is pretty simple. B = bet P = pot B/(B+P). Here's an example. If you bet 1 dollar into a 2 dollar pot [1/(1+2) or 33%] I need to call at least 33% percent of the time, or else all your holdings become profitable bluffs.

Why KQ is a better shove than a simple call? You have a blocker to the straight, you don't block the nut flush (which he can bluff with) but you have a blocker to a flush and the 9 on the river makes less likely he has a boat. I could see this as a bluff shove with like TJ, KT, AT, JJ without a flush blocker but imo this KQo is good for a call, but I'm just learning. :)

I'd definitely rather pay you to get see what you'd raise there or chop.. not get pushed off the pot for only $1000 more.. lol I'm so confused at his play . it's not like his $500 bet on the river was a bluff, he was getting value. just so bizarre to me . especially having $10k behind . but idk I'm only 22 and been playing for a couple years. I wouldn't have snap folded for that price .

I love Doug's "revisionist" point of view. On that second-hand, when Dougie had J8, the opponent flat-out disguised his ace, FOOLING Doug. Hence, between Doug thinking his opponent was weak, AND he could rep the 7, Doug raised big. Think about it, have you EVER heard Doug say, "I made a bad-play or mis-read."? That's right, you haven't. He puts some spin & polish on hands like this and strokes in some logic. But, the fact of the matter, Doug read the situation incorrectly and happened to get lucky.

Don't really understand why it would be too conservative to not bet any Kings if you get Bluff-Raised by an 8 and chop with every other King since your Kicker does not play. Yes, Polk might have 99 here but that's about the only hand you could get value from.

Doug on this particular board I am not sure why your citing weak ace.. As AQ is equal to A3 in this case so he is only beaten by a 7 or AK or AA, KK or 88 so hard to put your flat call after the straddle raise on AA KK or AK so let think your on 88 or some sort of 7 more likely.. the bet size is huge so this foldable but if he is going to find a call it has to be on a hand like this.m
