The U.S. uses the M2A1. You don't have to check headspace and timing on the A1. SUPER quick barrel change. Just pop off the old one and slide the new one in and lock it down.

First production models were in 1921. Accepted by US Military in 1933. So there is no way it could be used in WW-1. WW-2 it was on every American tank, cargo truck, aircraft, US Navy ship, and amphibious landing craft. The B-17 bomber aircraft had ten M-2 machine guns pointed in all directions. Even on those SWIC boats that move Navy SEAL's. In continuous use since 1933.

It is normally shot in bursts but barrels should be regularly changed. Depending on the variant barrels can be changed faster and without the need to adjust head space and timing.

this is probably one of the most ubiquitous gun that uses .50 BMG and it's never been bolt action... It's probably right alongside the m107 (generically named Barrett 50 cal) which also is not bolt action. Don't know where you got the idea that guns using .50 cal rounds should be bolt action.

@@leoneigenbrodt3660 Man braucht heutzutage keine so hohe Feuerrate mehr. Im 2. Weltkrieg brauchte man eine hohe Feuerrate um die Russen umzumähen die in Scharen kamen. Heute wird ein MG eher fürs Niederhalten/Speerfeuer genutzt und für sowas ist die Feuerrate irrelevant. Wenn man jetzt ein MG mit ner hohen Feuerrate hat muss man nur mehr Munition mitschleppen. (Das ist ein Schweres Maschinengewehr wir haben auch noch das MG 74)
