I just finished nursing school last year April…and I already feel like my brain is rotting away…the feeling of not intentionally learning something …just like how intense it was during school… I’m feeling motivated to learn something because of this video… maybe Spanish because I have so many patients in this community

Miki's 5 reasons to keep learning as an adult 1. competence leads to confidence (charisma = competence + warmth) 2. it sparks new ideas and opportunities 3. it changes your perspective 4. it keeps your brain active and healthy (use it or lose it!) 5. it helps you stay connected to your community keep learning, keep growing

Speaking from someone who is also from the bay area and having studied nursing at Arizona State university I can finally appreciate my education at a similar level as you. I'm 21 years old and honestly I'm think of pursuing elementary education and perhaps pursue nursing later on in life. I had to stand up to a lot of people and really voice my thoughts and opinions even if it hurt the other person. I learned that I can't preserve everyone's feelings. I want to have the courage and confidence to continue living life happily while keeping good relationships with people. I also struggled to sign up for an art class at a local community college. But I eventually figured it out with the help of my family :)

I resonated with this sooo much and it really helped me! I graduated with my BSN in 2018 as well. I applied and got into a couple BSN-DNP psych NP program, and got an amazing scholarship for the program I chose. Unfortunately, I suddenly got very sick and my life completely stopped. I am determined to return to work remotely by the end of the year, but I want to be able to work a full year before going back to school. Over the time of being the patient, I’ve realized I do not want to be an NP at all and I’m highly considering changing career paths. Although, I am super interested in nursing informatics thanks to my IS/IT husband 😂 I miss learning so badly. And you just opened my perspective of ”going back to school.” There are endless opportunities and It doesn’t have to be nursing related! I still plan to go back for informatics or a career change, but in the mean time I could do something related to things I really want to learn about. I apologize for the long comment, but this video really hit me hard in a good way! Miki, I appreciate how much you share and the variety of things you talk about.

8:49 I totally get u! When I was younger, I did not care about college or have much interest in studying (although I did fine academically) but now I'm taking an online programming course and I'm the best student I've ever been and have so much genuine interest in actually learning and growing for my future. Crazy how things change.

So funny- I got my nursing degree in 2015, and felt the itch and got an MBA in 2020 as I wanted to maybe open my own healthcare company- then that was not IT for me. I became obsessed with wanting to learn Japanese- lots of books as I was itching to grow and learn--which recently took me to Apply to NP school, and I just got accepted in fall 24 at Duke. My dream program. I'm closer to retirement age and just want to keep GROWING. I love this message! Never stop exploring life! Enjoy your studies! To anyone out there who struggles---just keep going!

yeah continuously learning gives meaning to life, it's very fulfilling. I'm a physician and just finished a neurology residency, and clinical neurophysiology fellowship last summer. Felt the same way, hitting a plateau. So I started a personal finance KZbin channel to learn about scripting, filming, editing. Currently taking the real estate salesperson prerequisite courses to take the real estate licensing test in May to get a CA real estate license to be my own buyer's agent when buying our first home. Some time in the future, going to save up tuition money and go to an online law school to learn more about law, not necessarily practice law.

Ahh this was so fun to watch and sparked inspiration in me! I am half Japanese (born near Osaka and moved to US when I was 6) and want to improve my Japanese as I have lost it over the years. When I go back to visit my family I feel self conscious of how I communicate. My school goals are school nurse credential, masters in public health, and Japanese school!

That instructor’s email was very good advice. The NP profession is full with naive nurses who have 3 months of experience, lol. Not to mention the over saturation is stagnating NP salary and it is very common for RNs to get paid more than NPs with less responsibilities and better work life balance.

Girl I LOVE this!!! I love that you were so determined to return to a Japanese class environment, and I love that you did not take no for an answer from the school. I love you so much, and I seriously feel like I've been really struggling with what you were talking about. I'm really trying to shift my mindset surrounding school before I go back. I graduated in 2020, I made the mistake of enrolling Fall of 2020 (don't even get me started on that, everything online and navigating living by myself was the worst combination ever), and I definitely still somewhat have that mindset of "my self-worth is measured by my successes and accomplishments." It honestly probably hasn't helped that I've been feeling like I need to live up to my parents because I do view them as very successful. And idk if anyone can relate, but I was adopted from China into a Caucasian family (I'm the only adopted one in my entire family). So I've had access to more privileges because of my adoption, so I guess I've also been telling myself that I need to take advantage of those things so much that I haven't really been allowing myself to just take things at my own pace and not jump at every opportunity I have.

That professor was SO polite actually! I think Americans are so oversensitive cause most Europeans are so direct, hahaha. I swear some of my professors would be like: "So bold of you to assume you can do that with basically no experience. Do not reccomend but to each their own. Good luck." lmao

i am 13 years a nurse and Id say having hands on experience is so important. i have tinkered w the idea of NP school because im smart and hate sometimes the limitations as a RN. i am still thinking . i also preferred a downpayment for a house instead of more school. i realized school is great but i dont want to pay more money for higher ed. the cost benefit doesnt make sense. i will just be in a debt hole.
