I'm definitely not someone to use as an example, and I wouldnt advise taking the route I did, as I dropped out. But I will say that the internet is a very useful place, you can self teach/ watch tutorials for a lot of creative fields and build up experience that way for free. So if you're concerned about costs of college/ uni and being let down in the end, there is a free alternative

Ir is ok, I have 3 engineering university degrees and I was never worried: we are all hopeless. What you can count on? Nothing. Are your owners/employees are your friends as they pretend to? No. What are you feared of? Not getting well paid? Or not having a job security? Don't worry, you have a very small chance, basically around the statistical error even in stable company or any kind of formal entity. So, don't worry comrade: it is hopeless, try ro enjoy the process and living of being a student. It is not that bad actually nowadays.

Don't get carried away, while it's good that these videos are helping you make a living, you must keep in mind that a large portion of new subs comming from them may not be interested in your actual content. Be aware of this since it could permanently damage your channel, it happened to another youtuber I follow and was forced to start from scratch. Good luck, I wish you all the best.

That’s why I’m not subscribing. If I was in his position I’d figure out who my new audience is before making more gaming videos. I’m a motion designer and illustrator for instance, and I have zero interest in fps games. I love it and had it as a business for ~2 yrs but there’s something about going „gotta go fast, gotta make most out of x amount of material, gotta earn so i can pay half of it to my government🥲” kinda lessened the fun for me. Especially the give money back part, only thing i bought rly for just myself was a 20$ victorinox pocket knife I used to have as a boy. That was at a 1,5yr mark.

You should be. My sister was a self employed book illustrator for like 15-20 years, and within the last year, her prospective clients have dropped so significantly her livelihood is at risk. How is she supposed to retrain for a non creative job after 20 years in this industry? How could she have foreseen that AI would be replacing creative jobs and not menial or dangerous jobs? Her friends create musical scores for videos, film, and TV, and their industry has been almost completely replaced by AI.

As a 17 year old with only really skills within programming in unity and art, I sometimes wish I wasn't such a creative bubble in a way just so I can score myself a job which is future proof. Early this year I did start work on my own game, im a solo developer with one musician so are ideas dont really conflict at all, and with the pace Im going at and with the breaks which I have upcoming I hope to increase that workflow more, hoping for a October 2025 early access release, by then I would of just left school and such. Im just hoping that my passion is recognized and it succeeds or atleast gives me a good portfolio for future employers. Thank you for sharing your situation, it's honestly motivated me quite a bit to get all these things finished before I go out to study something in univeristy or go for a job.

What a lot of artists are doing in California are selling physical art. Oil, watercolor, acrylic paintings or sculptures sold at art fairs or online. Computer generated imagery opened a lot of doors to artists decades ago. AI is slamming those doors shut. 😔

This is a great update! It's good to see that you're not giving up and you're keeping a positive mindset. If you fall 3 times, get up 4 times. My advice to you would be to BE REALISTIC: The game you're producing with friends and whatnot is a great idea, but it'll take time (or might even get cancelled again before you run out of money) The retail job is a great backup - there's nothing to be embarrassed about, a man's gotta eat and pay bills! KZbin seems to be a great option in my opinion (speaking from experience). You got a good viral video, now you may need to snowball this. "AI" is what you should focus on, maybe research on how to use it and make videos around it. Heck, use chatGPT to come up with video ideas. Really quickly, I can think of a few video titles: - Asking people if they are afraid of losing their jobs to AI (this could be in a documentary style) - How my job used AI to kick me out (maybe a humorous video where u showcase AI tools that generate a website/email design but it ends up being shit) Also make youtube shorts (they dont pay u much, but gets you lots of exposure). Learn to make better thumbnails (maybe use a portrait of Terminator with bigger fonts and less words) Anyway, all this to say that you got this!

I'm here to help fund you YT career because I've studied gamedesign & digital art for 5 years, just did my finals and am already looking forward to never getting a chance to actually do any of the shit I learned for a living. It's great to hear that your game is being developed again and that more people want to join. Subbed bro. I feel like im gonna be in a similar situation to u but after UNI. I am currently sitting my GCSEs and I cant stop thinking about if the path im going down is destined for failure. My dream is to be a programmer perhaps in the low level core or engine side of applications which may be what is hit by AI last. But even then by the time I finish UNI I feel like my course is gonna be a complete waste of time and my parents money. Like whats gonna be the point of even freelancing my skills if an AI agent can complete the same task to a higher standard and speed. Loads of senior programmers Ive talked to across message boards say that the coding part may go to ai but the programming like actually thinking of the structure of a project will stay but with the newest advancements I doubt that :( But good luck with this channel man!

But im not sure what else to study that wont be maybe replaced by AI. Anything I choose can be replaced. Me personally will probably still go into my CS degree and maybe branch off into game design/ cybersecurity as this is the places where AI wont take over so easily due to its errors. But I still plan, on first doing internships for networks/database jobs. I still want to start learning other coding languages other than python and pascal but it’s hard due to my exams coming up. Oh well, Ill see where life takes me to be honest. Id be fine with even a office job concerning information systems which is also what I also wanted to study(Bcom) incase CS wasnt the way for me.

In your video about how you lost your job, I commented that you might want to look into AI as it is an in-demand career, but since you already have a game in production, I'd say focus on that, as even if doesn't bring you EA-like revenue, it will certainly look good in your resume and that would surely be helpful if you want to get into the game dev/design industry. You just catched the flow don't let it go and go with it not against it! I think you should use this opportunity to monetize youtube and found a way to keep the new audiance in your channel. If you ask my *subjective* opinion the new audiance is more likely to watch your commentating videos because you're videos that goes viral is more like a commentary type video. And *LUCKY* for you that you can integrate commenting and gaming videos in a single video content to monetize the new and old audiance like the video that I'm commenting on. If the idea about commentating video content is something that you're planning to do then My advice to you will be use the topic about AI is more often because you have something unique that nobody ever has in youtube which is your experiences about losing your job to AI and which is great amount of popula is interested in! and dying for more real life experience about it which is the thing that you have. That is the reason I'm saying "you just catched the flow" and I'm strongly recommending you to don't let it go because I believe this once in a lifetime opportunity to catch. So keep up! use the money you gain from youtube to gain more money from youtube or just invest in your game devoloping project to even gain more money from it!
