I used to fix airplanes for the Navy (35 years ago) and I have done car maintenance in the past, but it's been ages since I did either. Watching your videos gave me the confidence to change the oil on my new 4Runner the other day. It was a magnificent feeling of accomplishment! It was my truck's second oil change. I had the first one done at a reputable shop. Turns out that they lost one of my skid plate bolts because it was not on the truck when i got under there. With all of the tools I'm buying to do this work, I'm not sure that I'm saving money (especially in the short term), but the peace of mind knowing that I did everything right is invaluable.

@@Z-Man1973 Gee, I didn't realise! I thought Toyota didn't sell diesel cars in the USA because people prefer petrol (gas as you say). It's an interesting comparison, with the cheap petrol/gas prices in the USA a V8 Petrol GX460 (basically a 150 Prado) sounds like a terrifically powerful vehicle. Petrol Engines are also less expensive to maintain than diesel. But the low end torque of a diesel is nice - but more power would be very nice! If I lived in Colorado I'd get a nice GX460 (either new or second hand according to budget), put some good quality sheepskin seat covers on (I love my sheepskins) Dobinsons monotubes and heavy duty springs (352 F, 327R, 265/70 R17 wheels and TOYO AT tyres (tires) (to small for USA?), KAON UVP and the usual KAON accessories, Rola tray, and I'd drive it as much as I could around that wonderful State! @LionRunner2 ай бұрын
@41:30 Yes, very important. Call police -> take pictures of both cars all around -> Get police report -> file claim with insurance -> use your trusted repair place. I tell this because I had the same experience hit from behind at a red light. When I file the claim the party at fault story changed to "there was another car hit from behind". Lucky the police report does not say anything about 3rd vehicle nor the pictures show damages to the back of party at fault. I repaired from my insurance and my insurance took the money from the other party's insurance. I got a very nice rental car to enjoy for a month and my Rav4 was repaired like it was new. Even though it was a minor hit insurance replaced the rear hatch, bumper, badges and what not. I was very happy with the job and paint matched perfectly to my eyes.

Amd, this is the video I’ve been patiently waiting for! It was thanks to your “gifting” video that my wife and I bought our GX460 last year.. we absolutely love this beast and are so grateful to have been able to purchase one. Like yours, we too had a person run into ours (T-Boned and wiped out the whole driver’s side) which broke our hearts but no one was hurt and our baby is good as new again. Please keep us posted on anything you do to yours, we appear to be in lockstep as mine has also reached 15K miles thanks to short trips.

The same type accident happened to my wife and her Highlander. A girl on the cell phone ran into my wife as she was stopped in traffic. The girl even admitted her brakes were not the best. It did $11,300 damage to my wife's car. The insurance wanted to total her car and I got heated up. My wife's car was and still is pristine after the crash. We pride our vehicles and I knew we could not replace her car for the money the insurance would have given us. I kept on the adjuster and they made the repair. I told my wife if they totaled the car, we were not going to buy some used junk. Her car had only 52,000 miles and looked like new. I would buy a new one. You never know what is going to happen. We work hard for the money to own nice vehicles and I take care of them.

Wipers - first time Toyota owner (2024 Venza) - didn’t know there were replaceable inserts. Remember this style from a~30 years or so ago…. Ordered replacements…

Please advise from where the replacements for wipers to take?, maybe it's for RAV4 as well?
@nealewalter2 ай бұрын
@@juliustertelis5902 according to Amazon it’s the same as the RAV4 (“fits” my Venza). I expected this as the cars are very very similar.

Lots bull dust out back roads. normal filters get the box dirty on the clean side. I put a little rubber grease on the seals of air cleaner filter. It really works. The 200 series is very prone to getting engine dusted in Australia. We use after market filter boxes here and the dusting problem goes away.

I park way out in the lots so things don't happen on all my vehicles. Walking is good exercise unless you are unable to then get dropped off closer. Lately the road less traveled to your destination has benefits in getting into accidents if possible.

I, too, practice a strict isolationist policy when parking.
@johnrose31692 ай бұрын
I do that too. I usually drop my wife/family off at the front door and go park. My family always teases me about my parking lot OCD.

Please make more videos of this GX 460. I got a 2023 GX 460 Luxury package for a year now. I do all my maintenance. I change the motor oil at 845 miles, 3,900 and recently 5,300 miles. At 850 miles there were metal shavings in the oil filter since the engine was brand new and barely broken-in. Lexus 2 free maintenance service doesn’t change the oil until 10k miles. I don’t want to risk it as I want to keep this GX as long as I live. Maybe passing it down to my kids or grandkids.

AMD and Jason are two honest and conscientious guys that are role models for others in the industry - I’ve had Jason’s company work on my cars and trust them, and as an owner of a old, pristine, Toyota with sentimental value - AMD is on my mind for simply doing an inspection. BTW - the PDR guy is Dennis- he does great work.

Always put a towel under the wiper arm. JUST in case of an accidental drop. Even 6" can crack the glass.

My Sequoia caliper pins are similar design. New England winters binded them up. After my brake job my gas mileage went back to 16.3 mpg from a low of 15.2.

It's so refreshing to see someone as in depth with toyota and lexus, as I am. I've been working in a toyota and lexus environment since I was 8 years old. I was A1-A8 ase certified at the age of 15. I don't have a platform like you do, but im ok with that. I do hold classes to teach people about their vehicles and.my classes are always full and have apps through the next year and a half and appreciate you showing the world brother. For example, I rebuilt 3, 2ar-fe engines yesterday. I don't know of anyone that can pump out productivity as I do. Seems like we would get along. Your friendly neighborhood toyota/lexus 30 year master technician.

NOTE: At 42:16 you start talking about calling the police in an accident. I’m from California, the police usually refuse to come out to an accident. I was involved in a hit and run, I was rear ended at a stop sign. So I pulled over and the other person fled the scene. I called it in and they said they’d send someone to at least take a report so I have something to file with my insurance company, well standing at the side of the road for an hour, I called them back and they told me to come into their office the following morning, they no longer respond to traffic accidents unless someone is injured. I was shocked that they didn’t even bother to call me to tell me they weren’t coming. So don’t rely on police to show up, make sure you know what you are supposed to do in the event of an accident if the police refuse to show you have have all the necessary information if you need to protect interests. My Mom was sideswiped on the freeway a couple years ago and the driver was drunk and spun out into a field and the police never showed up either. A lady, at like 2am gets hit by a drunk driver on the freeway and no police show. It’s bad. I’m not saying don’t try to call the police BUT make sure you have a plan and method to document things should they choose not to show up.
