Actually this is quite common. Parents who put all weight on their children to solve their problems like its the children's obligation. Little do they know they are like a dead weight pulling us down the river and we can't scape without feeling bad and thus our situation becomes dire and we get no where.

I agree. I don't remember who said it but they said : Motivation is a feeling, it's flighty and not dependable. Discipline is doing what you need to do regardless of how you feel. You're sad? Do it any way. You're scared? Do it anyway. The work to do it or not is the same amount of work.

Wow, congestive heart failure. That is tough. My dad who is actually pretty athletic had it as well years ago, and that's no simple condition right there. He no longer has it now, but he did have to stop working (only temporarily) to take care of himself, as well as having operations for Afib. It all came to a head at a stressful time when he was working a FT job far from the house, plus another PT job at night after work that was really physical, and he was pushing himself too hard to try and pay off debt. When his body finally broke down, he swelled up badly and my mom drove him to the hospital, and that month he couldn't walk even a few houses down the street without getting winded, which was hard for him as someone who is very active. But the walking did help, he walked a little bit each day, then a little further and further, for months while he recovered from that and Afib operations, combined with a very clean, healthy diet and other instructions from his doctor. He's now in great physical shape, and his finances are in great shape. I'm very proud of him. Having seen all that firsthand, I feel for this guy and his situation and I hope he can get some relief soon

He need to continue what hes doing. He's doing well. When you have debt your options are limited. He is blessed to be able to live with his grandmother. Juat continue the pace hes at. He will be debt free in 1 year and a half. Then he can build a nice cushion and then explore his options. If he quit now he will throw away his hard work over the last year. Whoa, how do you get congestive heart failure at 26? Legitimately asking, never heard of anything like that. This guy doesn’t need FPU, this guy needs to figure out what his long term life vision is in the context of his health limitations and whatever that means for his lifespan. Sacrificing the present for the future doesn’t make any sense if your health means there isn’t any future. That’s the important conversation for him, what’s his life and future health look like? He’s paid off so much debt on so little money that his capability is no problem.

You are 90% correct but there are things you can do to help, motivate and push people. Think about how Dave replied to him. They talked about why he first got started. They talked about success he already achieved. They are small things but they can help. If someone is already moving in the right direction you can push them to do more etc.

Make a chart of a thermometer like non-profits use for fundraising goals. Mark off how much you’ve paid, and use colored markers to keep making it as you progress. Budget and diet are things people CAN control when things around them are disorderly. Some people obsess and become very fit or miserly. Craig needs dopamine for motivation. He may not be able to get it through exercise. The chart, and marking it, will provide little bursts. Ramsey group, even if on-line, making new friends, should help.

@@craiggers1008 Hi Craig, some commenters on here are kinda dense and cannot comprehend what you're going through. But you will find helpful advice from others that have dealt with situations similar to yours. You have already done an excellent job with the $35K paydown so far, so congratulate yourself on that achievement. You might want to consider taking a pause from gazelle intensity, keep making the minimum payments that are required to keep current. Take whatever amount is left over and build up your Baby Step #3 3 - 6 months of living expenses in an emergency fund. This will give you that psychological cushion you need right now. After you have amount you are comfortable with, then go back to accelerating the paydown of remaining debts. Of course, during this time study the books they are giving to you, especially Ken Coleman's book on career development. You don't have to do everything all at once all at the same time. Take time to listen to soothing music, or take walks in nature, to clear your mind of negative thoughts and revive your spirits.

He could easily live out his life in a happy and normal way to age 80 or longer, if he gets serious with his diet by avoiding red meats, and other animal products and fats, and fried foods and no chicken . He should lean more to a vegan diet or a vegetarian diet with no dairy or maybe just have some yogurt for dairy once per week and some fish every other week. Also try to get in regular exercise weekly and don’t stress out over life situations. Over half of all Americans have heart disease and don’t even know it because of poor diet and high cholesterol that they never go into their doctor office to get checked out until it’s too late.
