I have alopecia since age 18. Now I’m close to needing a wig. Then I got thyroid cancer so chances of it ever returning are zero. It’s devastating for a woman and doctors treat it way to lightly. Your hair looks absolutely beautiful.

Don't get too down on the hair loss!... during pregnancy your hair grows faster and falls out less (more hair retention) from hormones, so it sort of slightly compensates for that inevitable postpartum hair loss... The hair loss isn't thinning your hair as much as it seems because you retained more hair than usual while pregnant! 😘

Hey, if there’s one thing I can share in hopes it helps, the only thing I regret looking back on postpartum is being so hard on myself in the process. I look back now and realize I was so beautiful through it all, and I wish I had just realized how beautiful being a mom is without stressing so deeply over the changes. It’s all temporary and fleeting, and you are just so beautiful in your new role too.

Ashley, I can completely relate to the PP hair loss. I wouldn’t even wear my hair in a pony tail because I felt so insecure as I had literally bald spots at my temple. I would say the extreme hair loss only last 2-3 months and I’m 8 months post partum now and have quite a bit of regrowth coming in. I did nothing for the hair loss or to get regrowth. Just letting my body do it’s thing. But it was hard for sure!

The amount of hair I lost with baby #1 was humbling. Wow. Every time I got out of the shower I thought I would be bald. It was so frustrating because I feel like no one talks about how jarring this is. Just had baby #2 so seeing this is comforting - I know I’ll be right with you in 3-4 months.

Hi Ashley, I had post-partum hair loss that started at 4 months and lasted two months. I breast fed my baby for 19 months and had another round of hair loss when I stopped breast feeding. Your hair will grow back. The most important thing is to eat nutritious foods and take some hair supplements. I took he shou wu (fo ti) that my accupuncturist gave me. Don’t lose hope the body bounces back and so does your hair. I had my baby at 40 via c-section and now am almost 43 and I am almost back to 100 pre baby body and hair.

Hi Ash, I experienced the EXACT way of pp hairloss you’re talking about and it completely knocked my confidence out of the blue. It took me months to feel like myself again and I really underestimated the effect it would have. I felt like „it’s only hair, everything else is fairly manageable or even easy, why am I making such a big deal out of this?!“ but the reality is (now looking back a couple months later) your body goes through these insane changes and it’s totally fine to feel bad about some things more than others and the reality is it just takes time. Our standards now are so incredibly unrealistic and it makes me sad even now when I catch myself being so brutal towards myself. Truth is, it will get better over time and hair growth really returns. Hope knowing you’re not alone can be a bit comforting to you ❤ lots of love to you and all the other mamas out there

I had read that it starts at 4 months but mine started at 5 months PP so I also thought I skipped it completely. But I experienced hair loss as well. I promise it gets better. I did lose hair for months and months and when I look at those pics I can see how thin it got but the sad feeling I had during that time is gone now. It does eventually go back to normal. I personally cut my hair up to below my shoulders just to keep it looking full but you could do extensions for thickness, literally no judgies, do what you need to do to get through this time, it is a shock

I just hit the three month mark Friday been, and the hair loss literally started over night. I started brushing wads of it out. I don’t know why but I thought maybe it wouldn’t happen to me. And I’ve been feeling some kind of way about it. I think because I take so much pride in my hair and now to experience it falling out is devastating. I’m also a hairdresser and I see it all the time with clients so it is totally normal.

I went through extreme hair loss recently as well from Covid, but it also happens when your body goes through something traumatic, and I’d say giving birth isn’t exactly a breeze lol. But I never thought it was going to stop. I posted about it on Tik Tok and everyone’s experience is different but so many people go through different types of hair loss and it’s never easy. The feeling to me was almost grief, I totally get that feeling you’re trying to understand. It pretty much started overnight and also stopped overnight! I was taking Nutrafol and once my hair finally started to grow, it came out super healthy and fast! They have a postpartum one too and I saw results after about 3 months! You’re not alone, and I know it feels endless but I promise it’s not! ❤

When your pregnant the hair stays longer in the growing phase of its cycle, which means that less hair falls out than usual. This is due to an increase in the hormone oestrogen.

Oh I remember that hair loss postpartum and it was so bad I barely had any hair left especially when I was showering it was the worst but I tried hair vitamins. After the third month of using them I saw such a big difference. I have started to have hair growing on my head where I usually never had before. I also started to have hair loss after the third month postpartum and it lasted actually a year for me and gradually stopping but I kept using the vitamins because I saw that they help me a lot. Sadly they’re not available in the US to buy but maybe try different types to see which you actually like and help you. Btw they are called Orthomol hair intense if you want to check them out

I experienced hair loss after having covid. Exactly 3 months after it. A shock. It lasted one whole month. Average 50 hairs a day, during shampooing and brushing, on the pillows, everywhere on the clothes. Then it stopped. Since then I take biotin every day and it helps. The hair follicle just wasn't nurtured during covid and fell out 3 months after the illness. Could be the same during pregnancy. Hope the best for you! 💕

Hey Ashley, I just wanna say you are not alone. I had my baby girl last year in March. Losing your hair is so hard. For me personally, it's hard cause hair gives me confidence. Just in general, womens bodies go through so much change with pregnancy & postpartum that it's hard to feel like yourself. My daughter turns one at the end of this month & I still feel not normal. I had to learn that there will never be a normal.

HI! BABY #4 here and yes - my postpartum hair loss begins 4-6 months after but it goes away. It's hormonal and your hair will regrow. I don't know when, I just remember when I stopped nursing each child (around 1 years old they've always weaned) my hair came back full and thick again.

Hey Ashley, I have a suggestion as for the hair loss. I've gone through the same experience and know how frustrating it is. I had been having it really bad for more than a year (and doctors couldn't offer any help ) until one day I read somewhere that regular massaging a scalp is the only solution in that case. I decided to try it and oh miracle! It worked!! And worked exactly as it started - over night! I couldn't believe my eyes when in a few days while washing my hair I didn't see any falling hair. It was really too bad that I hadn't run into this information earlier. So the "procedure" is very simple. You just grab a small towel cover your head and start rubbing your scalp as intensively as you can until your scalp will start feeling the sort of burning. It will take some physical effort but you'll manage ). Do it every day. And don't think that if you rub you sculp it will provoke more hair to fall. Don't worry about that. The hair that meant to fall will fall in any case. But by doing that massage you'll be improving blood circulation with all benefits that come out of it. Of course there's no guarantee. Something that worked for me might not work for someone else but it's definitely worth trying. I hope it will help. There's one more small "technical" suggestion. To make that massage easier to do you should sort of lean forward and lower your head. It's easier when your head sort of hanging down. I hope I'm clear. Good luck! Let me know when your hair loss stops over night!

Totally normal about the hair loss!!! While pregnant your hair is super thick and doesn’t shed really at all so now it’s all letting go. And yes it does suck and looks much scarier than it is - it will come back !!! (Mine came back once my body kinda came back and breast feeding stopped).

My PP hair loss started at 4 months and didn't stop until around 12 months. It was terrible. I already have thin and fine black hair, so the hair shedding was really apparent and obvious. I'm so glad that phase is over! I have heard good things about hair supplements like Nutrafol from some of my post partum friends, so I may try that after the next pregnancy.

Girl. My hair loss started around 4.5 months PP, and I would cry in the shower when I washed my hair. It was not fun. I have always had super thick hair, and this was such a hard season to walk through. Luckily, the loss slowed and stopped after around 4-5 months after it started. Now I have fun baby hairs at the top that are so awkward- but I’m seeing it as a triumph because the hair is growing back. 😊😊😊

I have quite a lot of hair but still so much less than you do. I already lose so much hair from my thyroid issues but I definitely had postpartum hair loss and I can tell you when you have hair like yours it can't be that bad. Really you will notice of course but from the outside no one will be able to tell. It will be fine ❤️ The "funny" part is that you'll then have so much regrowth which feels weird when trying to style your hair cause those little hair are sticking out from everywhere, around your forehead, escaping ponytails .. it's just a pain like that But really you truly are like to have such thick hair, you won't be affected a lot by it don't worry

My baby is now 4 months old. My hair started shedding a few weeks ago and it was shocking. I have really thick long hair and was shocked at how much fell out.😢 I’ve never been able to tie a rubber band around my hair twice and now it wraps easily around. I noticed the most fell out when I was brushing my hair in the shower. We have had to vacuum every day because there is hair everywhere!

I looked at PP hair loss as losing all the hair that you don’t lose while your pregnant for 9m! The baby hair regrowth is just as rapid as the loss but I looked like Albert Einstein for months 😂 since your breastfeeding the process does take longer ( It did for me both times). My hair is long but dark so it looked like even more!

There are certain things you can do. And even tho it's normal it IS upsetting. I had numerous bald spots and at this point they did suggest I go to the dermatologist to stop it. I ended up getting a few inches cut off and using Nioxin shampoo, conditioner and serum and they gave me a can't remember ( it was either a cortisone or steroid injection) and that stopped it. Hope that helps .

PP hair loss suuuucks but its totally normal to start 3-4 months PP. It can be really jarring and depressing in the moment but know that it is absolutely temporary. Mine lasted about 3 months total and all hair has since grown back. When you are pregnant your hair follicles essentially go into a resting phase so you don't shed very much hair while pregnant (whereas you would if you were not pregnant) so the shedding that would have happened during that time happens about 3-4 months PP when your hormones start to regulate. Its essentially 9-12 months of hair that would have shed little by little happening all at once, which is why its like "HOLY MOLY" when you see the amount shedding. It will come back, it just sucks in the moment.

I was also completely mortified from my postpartum hair loss. I had thought I skipped it also because it didn’t happen around the three month mark it was mid four months for me when it happened and it happened the same way not gradually just one day I was in the shower and I was like oh my God so much hair is falling out. I’ve definitely had quite a few cries in the shower about it. My sons about to be six months and I’m still having hair loss I think the first two months was my worst and for me what helped was honestly washing my hair less and not using heat not sure it 19:40 helped or it kinda of just masked it since I wasn’t seeing my hair fall out as much from showering 🤷🏼♀️ it may or may not work for you. This was the moment when I realized why all new moms chopped their hair off I was always like I would never do that and now I see why honestly considering it because I think just mentally it’s just like shocking too see all that hair come out and it being unknowing if you’ll get your hair back or not. I hope this helps you knowing you’re not alone ❤ I could honestly see why you wouldn’t mention it just because there’s so many trolls and unexperienced people on the Internet and it is a very emotional thing to go through.

Just shy of 4 months with my second. With my first, hair loss started around month 4. I thought I was in the clear too! This time is was at exactly 12 weeks. Both times exactly like you described - happened overnight. Over a few months the loss lessened and the regrowth process began. I had almost lost all the hair on my temples and that was the roughest regrowth area…I called it my fur lol. But I do think my hair was actually the thickest & healthiest it had ever been after the regrowth really grew in! It’s just a season, but definitely a challenging one. I feel like it attacks our sense of femininity and that’s why it feels so awkward to acknowledge. But it’s so very normal! Riding this wave along side you from upstate NY🤍
