Seriously how does no one understand the "im my father's son" line. Its not dumb. It does make sense. Goku was known as a hero, selfless (especially in z), never say die attitude. Here gohan is saying he holds the same qualities his dad does, and therefore his enemy (bojack) should expect no different from him. Cant believe im having to type this.

Which would've inspired Gohan to work on mastering Super Saiyan 2 with Goku before the Elder Kai unlocks his power. Man y’all in the comments trippin. Gohan says “I’m my father’s son!” He is essentially saying he is the son of the guardian of Earth! Evidence is in the words “I know your kind you think you can walk in and take our planet!” Numerous times Goku has defended the Earth with help of the Z fighters and sometimes JUST himself. Gohan takes full responsibility of the role of Guardian, as Goku is not present! LOVE THE ENDING! “Yep, that’s my boy!”

Piccolo and perhaps Dende would be the true guardian in that sense. But I agree though, if anything happens to his friends or the Earth, he will be there to defend it no question. Just like Gohan. I think I recall that Z unintentionally made Goku like a hero figure, and thus why they made Goku like the way he is in Super, which could've have been handled better in my opinion. Like in Namek, he wanted to test himself with Frieza at his maximum. And with Cell, if he wanted to, he could have worked with others to finish off Cell quick rather than honoring a warrior one to one. He does want to fight strong opponents to test his limits and that Saiyan drive flowing through him. But if anything befalls that risks his home and loved ones getting hurt, he'll shift gears when need to.

I love the ssj2 Gohan arc. It basically reveals everyone's potential and while you have Goku and Vegeta constantly training to get better, you're also introduced to Gohan who is almost always holding back because he's scared of what he can do. Ultimately it is Goku and Picollo whom he trusts, who put him in situations which force him to let go.
