My advice is when visiting your favorite barber, show him some of long hair cutting for men (e.g prev video of luca) a good barber would always be open to new ideas esp more men has grown their hair. But first you have to have an established barber of yours so it wouldnt be akward to ask him watch youtube videos of cutting/trimming long hair

@@bigmagoothebarber It really depends tho, I used to have like a long surfer bowl cut as a kid and I would be constantly hopping around barbers that just couldn't grasp what I was asking for as they will continuously take more than I had asked off till a salon was able to understand it. U realise that barbers have had to learn lady’s cuts in a barber student we have to learn every cut up to girl n man
@user-tt5df1le8b3 жыл бұрын
Hello, 4x professional beauty artist here. Let me give you a rundown. In cosmetology school, we are taught the foundations of breaking down a woman’s and men’s haircut, foundation of chemical services, perming services, makeup, skin, etc. In barbering, you learn how to do foundation men’s cuts and waxing. You learn very little of a women’s haircut and how to do layers,etc. Layers in a haircut, in itself, is a whole other technique which is customized to all different shapes and types of hair texture and density. Every single thing a hairstylist does, we have to target specialize EVERY LITTLE THING. How we hold a brush and hairdryer, how we hold a comb, how we apply our sections, WHY we are choosing the way we are applying the technique that way. People expect us to be 100% a master in every single different service, when in fact we have to start from the bottom. Trial and error, take mandatory training classes constantly, and physically doing it on someone. Even cutting a straight line requires technique. How to take out weight, texturize, everything. Most importantly, your consultation with your hairstylist is incredibly important. Have pictures for reference. Try to find something as close as possible as you want. Even the simplest thing can be miscommunicated. As a stylist we are trying to decipher what you mean and what technique we are going to do to get you there. You may know what you want, but the next person that sits in my chair may yell at me for not automatically reading their mind. Technically men’s haircuts are way harder than women’s cuts because it’s not forgiving and if you fuck up, that person will have that fuck up on their head until it grows out in 3 weeks. Every stylist needs to start somewhere. And most female salons rarely have men clients. I would recommend a man to go to a men’s salon where they do fades consistently on a daily basis. Also, barbers aren’t trained to do female layering.

Not just talking but going through my hair, headshape, reference pictures, how long have they been cutting hair for etc. And seeing if they have a portfolio of haircuts they're more proud of etc. But typically barbers do specialize more in fades and just the razor in general but yeah its who vs where.

Compared to your hair how it is now, mine is still quite short in comparison. I’ve had it long twice in my life, once just after I left school and then about 3 years ago. Im in the process of wanting it long again, actually longer than yours. For me it’s going to me more awkward as the hair on the sides of my head is considerably shorter due to my previous haircut which was short back and sides. However I’ve always gone to the hair salon because I’ve known the owner for nearly 30 years and she’s very good at both mens and womens hair and she always listens to what you want. It’s gonna be harder for me to achieve my long hair goal due to the shorter hair on the sides, but I’m going to get my head down and persevere over it. If you don’t commit to it, it’s not going to work.

I currently have short/medium styled hair, something like Brendan Fraser in the 1999 film, the mummy but I also like to let it grow long sometimes. I will always go with a good hair dresser for medium to long hair. The hairdresser I see knows how to cut my hair when it is very long but also when it's medium/short like it is now. I've been to a few barbers and they seem to want to cut too much off instead of styling the hair. I've never had what I wanted oyt of my hair with a barber. it wasn't bad, just not what I like. Again, overly short, I think it's them trying to bring it down to a comfortable length they can style. Had a few try to convince me to go crop top fade lol. Personally, I'd never go that short. Barbers are very good at shorter hair but the ones I've been to didn't seem flexible or comfortable styling medium to long hair.

Long hair has to be shampood and conditioned before a cut. Majority of barber shops in the UK have front wash basins and it's awkward and uncomfortable for the customer. Also if a barber is inexperienced in long hair, they will but lots of knots in your hair during a wash. I'd always recommend a phone call to the barber shop rather than just turn up randomly.

This is the issue though because I'm a barber so let's say we charge £10 for mens cut which let's say on average takes 20 minutes, I'll still make the same money for a cut that may take 30/40 minutes so you'll find when you walk in barbershops nobody really wants to cut your hair because your paying a cheap price and expecting the same haircut as you would if you went to a salon. So same for a salon, you paid £25 not £50 for the cut, which will take normally 30/40 for total service if done properly. Your main barber has his own shop or suite that he rents, so he doesn't have to give anyone a percentage so the £25 you pay him, he will get 100% of, whereas people working in a salon will be giving a percentage away or having to rent a chair. Time is money, if your not paying for my time or knowledge, people will try to avoid or pass a similar haircut like yours away just because they can make more money doing easier haircuts 👌💈

to grow hair and get suitable cut is difficult task. and it is always hard to let it grow or visit barber. because many times i regret after visiting barber that it has made it shorter than required. and most of the times barbers have no exp with long hair so i feel very nervous to try it.

From what it looks like the barber trimmed your ends and made it look healthy! Don’t go for length over strength

Personally i don't let anyone touch my hair because i live in a place where everyone has fade cut so there's no way i can trust a barber and i would never go to a salon. So i cut it my self and i do it just how i really want it for free of course

I enjoyed a lot and i also feel sad for you getting disheartened. 🥺🥺🥺 But you should go back to your old barber. Because i think you said right that " It doesn't matter where you go, but what matters is who cuts your hair. "❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Hairdressers can't cut mens hair I've tried before and I always get a bad haircut

I recently went to a new barber as I've moved city and I was so mad when I got home from the cut. I showed him pictures of my hair perfectly how I like it and got nothing similar. I said I want to keep it the same length as I've been growing it for ages and had a length I liked... I got absolutely butchered and now my crown sticks up (my biggest pet peeve for my hair)

@@jacobbarnes1453 not quite a bun level but I could almost top knot it. All the trim needed way the side fading thinning down and then the top to be tapered and shaped and ot would have been perfect for the look I was going for🥲
@jacobbarnes14533 жыл бұрын
Yeah I’m going for a full man bun. And I personally don’t see the point in maintenance trims. As long as you use high quality shampoo and conditioner, then your hair will look pretty good. I’m aiming for collarbone length of hair. I’m making sure to stay far away from barbershop, cos if you go in there and ask for anything but a fade they shit themselves.

@@jacobbarnes1453 that's so true mate. It took me years to find a good barber and he is honestly amazing at all hairstyles. All people want these days is fades and undercuts its boring 😴 a barber who wants to experiment is rare. And then the hairdressers I've been to are good but won't ever fade lol

this is so fucking relatable !! i was looking after my first maintenance cut after 10 months of growing my hair out and i thought going to a salon would be a much better option cause i thought how will i explain a person who gives 30 haircuts a day and all of them are fade that what a maintenance cut is well i didn't knew it so i thought lets spend some bucks on a professional and guess what nothing really happened ig all you pay for is experience there.

In my experience it definitely depends on the hairdresser. Last salon I went to had a couple of hairdressers, there was one that just did it absolutely perfect (that I went home and went to look in the mirror every 15 minutes because it looked just that good), but another hairdresser at the same salon I had twice just... didn't really knew how to cut men's hair I think. It was terrrible, she always ended up giving me a karen haircut (I had the kinda leonardo dicapro haircut but wavy), it made me realize it is very important to check if they actually know how to cut short hair, and/or men/women hairstyles. Also wished more hairdressers know their own limits. I once wanted to cut my long hair into a mohawk, and the hairdresser ended up asking someone else because she realized he was better at it then her. Please let there be more hairdressers like her (it ended up awesome too). Another thing I realized over the years is that a lot of hairdressers just don't know wavy or curly hair. For now I've decided to grow it out in a wolf cut so I can cut it myself and spare myself the trouble of a hairdresser in the first place.

It's a shame it's not what you wanted but it looks really good. 🔥 I prefer salons but I've never really like going to the barbers. Maybe because I am a hairdresser, just used to it.

What is the difference between a hair cutter in a salon and a barber?
@Mr.M1STER3 жыл бұрын
I used to have long hair. I was growing it out for about 3 years and never went to a barber once during that time. I probably had split ends and all the rest of it but I didn't really care at the time. I have been back to short hair for a number of years now and I generally dread going to the barbers. It is just never a nice experience for me because I am bad at explaining what I want and when I am asked "Is that okay?" I always say yes even when I mean no. Why do guys always do that in the barbers?
@jacobbarnes14533 жыл бұрын
Well if you don’t like it say no?
@Mr.M1STER3 жыл бұрын
@@jacobbarnes1453 It's not that simple. The hair is already cut at that point and if you say no the barber typically gets mad and just goes crazy short 🤣

@@Mr.M1STER well explain well what you want, and if they still jack it up, then you have the right to not pay them. If they get mad at you even though it’s their fault, smack em.

Did you try explaining what you want to be done with your hair exactly? Sometimes miscommunication is actually what ruins haircuts.

My usual salon closed over the lockdown so I had to find somewhere new. I always go to a salon as barbers haven't had a great track record with me over the years. I definitely think it's about finding the right person who becomes as invested in helping you to get the style you're working towards, be that a hairdresser in a salon or a barber ☺️
