I love how Omok's behavior is always cold to everyone and seems like a very strict guy, but in this scene, he let his guard down for a few moments (and you can see it in his body language) to appreciate the beauty of how Daniel sees everything from his more technologically limited viewpoint, similar as to the kindness of a father to his son being wrong while learning. Also, I think this happened because they were alone and because Omok needs to be seen as a very strong leader to his people.

@Peter Flood Or perhaps they already made the mistake of uplifting a war like species once, and didn't like the outcome. One look at an SG team and I sure wouldn't trust us with that kind of advanced tech. The fact that an SG team's weapons are designed to defeat their own body armor would tell an advanced species more about us as a species than is flattering. (Armor is made to defeat the enemy's weapons, weapons to defeat the enemy's armor - and SG team's surface gear proves we still war within our species)

@@jamesbizs Ummm yea... it's the same weapons the militaries use, designed to beat earth military body armor. No, Gau ould, Asgard and other race's body armor wasn't the same as SG-1's. (P-90's 5.7mm round was designed to defeat kevlar body armor) If it was designed to capitalize on some weakness specific to gaou ould armor or physiology, it would be equally obvious that we no longer fought anyone other than the gau ould. As for what kind of weapons they should design, I'm fine with us being "A primitive warlike species, who still wage war among themselves" and using off the shelf military tech designed to defeat the only enemies we had ever known - which is other humans & their armor. If someone is armed, they expect there is a chance they'll need to use violence. If someone is wearing armor, they expect there is a chance of being attacked with the type of weapon the armor is made to stop. Here on earth, if you go to a mountain village where everyone packs a shotgun on their shoulder, they probably have dangerous wildlife. If everyone has an AK-47 on his shoulder, they probably have problems with other people. If no-one is armed, there is probably no routine threat to the villagers.

I think I understand how that message beacon travels. Folding space would be connecting two points through a wormhole, however in this situation I think it's more like warping space as in compressing it and making it smaller. Think of space as the thing that is moving and not the object. Right now we can only make objects move through space, one day we will figure out how to make space move around and object. The idea is that space moving is by compressing space ahead of the object, fully compressed at the center of the object and then decompressing behind it. Now it is not like the Star Gate or Hyper space. Star Gate uses a worm hole that folds space and hyper space removes the object from space and into sub space or out side of space. Think of subspace as out side of normal space. Subspace is is like the round about in a road and normal space is the little garden thing in the middle. The thing is, normal space is much much smaller then subspace and things that enter it are or made larger or space made smaller. However it helps you to imagine how that works, or say imagine a normal sized car driving around it and a hot wheels or match box toy car driving through it at it's relative speed. Takes the toy car a lot longer to travel because at it's size, 100 MPH is 1 MPH to a regular size car. Sub space isn't actually bigger then regular space, everything in it is though. Similar space compression, however the object is made larger and not space made smaller. I've explained this very poorly and seemingly inaccurate, but for imagination sake for the normal folks, it helps picture it.

@@AlphaCentCom This is the problem the entire scene and concept of them as a people. What Daniel described is pretty much exactly what happened, and given we see a lot more into the world of stargate and exactly how weirdass alien science works, it's pretty obviously just some kind of einstein-rosen bridge system. Space and the universe aren't magic and scriptwriters who get all deeply philosophical about how 'muh primitive understanding of alien tech' are up their own ass. We know the basic idea of how a technology like this would operate even if we don't know the specifics. It's also not terribly difficult to grasp. Light go fast, light cannot go faster than speed of light. So light somehow 'skips' ahead to travel far in a very small time period. Unless the series is randomly deciding "actually these guys are more advanced than the asgard" or Ori later, which they sure as fuck aren't, their tech works off of the same wormhole concept prevelent in the entire stargate mythos. It's just so insufferably "you're wrong because the writers want you to be wrong" when the reality is that while not strictly correct, it's close enough to how literally every single technology in their world works that Daniel is close enough. But instead we get a scene with Orlan busting out some great "i'm 14 and this is deep" philosophy hogwash

what Omoc is describing is transmiting a signal on the quantum spectrum. in the quantum universe, distance does not exist yet at the same time it does. two objects can be thousands of miles apart and be in the exact same place at the same time. by entering and exiting the quantum universe, you can quite literally disapear from one place and re-appear in another instantly. its literally traveling without moving.

Reason why entanglement does not transmit information is because you can't collapse particles at will into one polarization/spin or another. They always collapse randomly. So if you could find a way to force them to collapse in specific way you could transmit information.

Nope. While sometimes that is true, I think some people just throw it out to make themselves feel better for not understanding an explanation. If you can't explain a concept simply, perhaps it's just complicated and requires more than a base level of understanding. See simple explanations require a certain assumption of what the person already understands, a simple explanation for a Tollan could literally require advanced physics education by Earth's standards. Also the more you simplify an explanation the more you risk that explanation actually being wrong. There's a reason why science stuff you learn in primary school is often contradicted by college courses.

I'm seeing a lot of people trotting out the "If you can't explain something simply, you must not understand it" thing and the reality is that's not really true. The simpler an explanation you give the more information you have to leave out, that information has to be already known by the person receiving it. Once you get to a certain point, a simple explantion is no longer possible and you have to move backwards and teach something they're missing instead. Another person likened it to taking an advanced particle physics course and the teacher just telling the students they wouldn't understand, but that's not really true. It'd be like showing up to an advanced particle physics course with only a primary school level science education. At that point there is no way to explain advanced particle physics to you because you don't even know what a particle is, and sure you can teach that instead but now its not advanced particle physics, its probably not even regular particle physics. When he says Daniel wouldn't understand he means he would literally have to teach him the basics he doesn't have and keep in mind its very possible Carter doesn't even have these basics. The reality is some things are just complicated.

It's probably the smartest scene in the whole of stargate actually. It is designed to look like it is talking about an einstein rosen bridge. But it's got nothing to do with that. What he is saying is not related to the action of his movements. What he is saying is that you must make both things (that only appear to be separated) the same. This is already a very well known and yet completely misunderstood science. Tesla knew it, most modern scientists have no fucking clue, which is funny because they actually do understand it. What Omok is talking about is resonance. If you are looking to get somewhere else, you need to make the vibration of your destination place, the same as the vibration of the place you are travelling from. You don't need to bend space time, you simply need to be the same as where you want to be.

Funny how the Tollan (especially Omoc) were very arrogant and treated lesser civilizations as being more like monkeys than man, but will now be far lesser developed than the Nox. Fortunately for them, the Nox are not condescending like they are, they just treat lesser developed civilizations as children who haven’t yet grown up. To be fair the Tollan are strict and act this way because they once destroyed a civilisation by sharing freely. Daniel c'mon man - you discovered how the Stargate works for humans. It doesn't take thousands of years through the wormhole. Also, later on it became clear after Daedalus etc. made quick 2 week trips to Pegasus Galaxy from Milky Way. We know the answer - subspace. Omoc sent a subspace communique to the Nox. Reached in a day or two since it's the same galaxy and not Pegasus Galaxy and Nox responded. Omoc was correct here - there's no folding of space. Merely these two points are very close in subspace. That tree folding was meant to show Daniel that the comms are via subspace making the message reach very fast. It probably opens a small hyperspace window

To be fair the way he showed it to Daniel was literally folding the tree branch, which to daniel was folding space (and looks like folding space to me as well) instead of slipping into subspace. I'd say the easiest way to visualize subspace is say.. Minecraft and the nether. But of course thats not an option for them. Theres also the rationalizing of it as Omoc fucking with him by showing him what seemed to be folding space, and then saying no to Daniel whether he got it right or wrong because Omoc doesn't want to share anything
