this video makes me feel proud to be a human. ironically when i had to memorise this i needed to get some coffee. and at the right moment was learning that caffein along with inhibiting the PDE 3 and 5 enzymes to prolong cyclic amp , it can also inhibit Adenosine. Adenosine promotes the activity of VPLO therefore give caffien ==> no adenosine ==> no vlpo ==> stay awake to study the recticular acitvating system . appreciate this video🙏

Once would think that, but most psychiatrists are completely ignorant about this stuff. All they care about is their stupid serotonin theory that has been debunked many times.

This is so great. However I still can't sleep. Lost my sleep drive altogether 1yr ago. Chronic insomnia for 26yrs. Now I'm learning about the brain to see if I can find out what's wrong with me.

That really sucks, have you had your vitamin D level and vitamin b12 checked? If they came back low, check out Dr. Gominak, she talks exactly about this. Most people who have insomnia have a depleted gut bacteria, because the gut bacteria that create the chemicals to make us sleep feed off of D from the sunshine. If it goes low insomnia happens. A D blood level over 40 ng/ml and B50 complex for 3 months usually fixes it for most people, but for the minority (if you've had insomnia for a really long time and need a lot of repairs) it may take longer and you may need to stay on a sleep medicine that helps whilst at the same time regrowing the gut bacteria responsible for health. It's a bit more complex than this but this is the general gist. You're missing neurotransmitters responsible for sleep, which the body naturally makes.

so why are doctors trying to prescribe or recommend melatonin, when its my VLPO not functioning to send me to sleep? how does melatonin affect the VLPO activation?
