The definition of grit and perseverance. Your growth as a person and a lifter is incredible. On the hard days I definitely ask myself “what would Mattie do?” And then yell at my squats

Dude, wow. You're an absolute unit and incredibly resilient.... Especially mentally. You're the reason I started WL 4 years ago when I watched that video of you competing in different challenges VS a Powerlifter, bodybuilder, and Crossfitter. You became one of my favourite technicians, and your transparency about your mental health was both relatable and helpful; knowing it was possible to struggle with mental health and still perform at a top level has been inspiring. From the bottom of my heart, thank you Mattie. Love from Canada. ❤️

It was heartbreaking for me to see you go up in weight classes just to be able to compete without US competition. I did not like it then knowing you were held out of your normal weight class by American talent and Olympic class reduction. I always thought that you were gold medal Olympic talent. I still believe that Mattie. I hope you can make a weight class where your skills and talent will let you qualify for world and Olympic stages. Part of the problem is the partial shutdown of weightlifting at the Olympics. I believe that having reduced numbers of the weight classes at the Olympics is unfair and a little insane. I mean, look at PanAmerican, European, and World Weightlifting. All of the weight classes compete, not limited like the Olympics. That is just plain insane. There are many like me who think you have been screwed. Just want to let you know, that we know, and we still love and admire you regardless of the mickey mouse rules at the Olympic committee. I hope all is well with your injury. Best regards always.
@MattieRogersWeightlifting3 күн бұрын
Thank you, this means a lot. I’ve been through the ringer as far as Olympic qualification is concerned over the last 10 years. Sucks it’s changed so much and isn’t as straight forward as it used to be: all classes, best in those classes go. Nothing we can do about that but keep on keepin on!
