I can empathize with Scotty about having to take extra things apart or off the car just to get to something simple like a spark plug. Oh for the days of the old flat head engines - all the plugs sitting in a row right up there on top, in plain sight, not sunk so far down into the engine you can't even see them.

Check your valve clearance. Mine was ok until 228,000 miles when it burned an exhaust valve seat because the valves had never been adjusted. The maintenance schedule says to check the valve clearance every 30,000 miles. Neglecting it is almost always the demise of the engines. Worst thing for me is I knew it would happen but kept waiting. Those big Detroit cars that my friends and I had back when we were in our teens and early 20s could backfire on demand. All you had to do was turn it off in gear while driving it, wait a second or two, and then turn it back on. You would get a very loud bang along with a three foot flame and sparks shooting out the exhaust. You just have to love standard ignition. Too bad you can't do that on cars today.
