If you think about it, the mom probably wasn’t rich enough to have a party, so she probably has this whole idea in her head about how she would like it to go, but she probably didn’t have the money. Fast forward to the current time, she has a daughter who’s about to get the party she’s always wanted. Of course she’s going to want to pick something from her own taste as she never got to before. She’s living through her daughter because her daughter is getting the opportunity she never got as a child. Sorry if I’m being a little protective for the mom, it’s just that I feel sympathy for them. XV is not just a party, and part of the tradition is to change flats for heels as other people above already mentioned. You can’t blame the mom for asking to give it a try with the dress once, ofc if she didn’t feel comfortable she can say no. Most quinceañeras only use them at the beginning of the party anyways and change them to flats or sneakers at the end to dance more comfortably. Please respect her mom wanted to follow a tradition of her country and not call it messed up just like that.
