BACK IN MOTORCYCLE HEAVEN!
I received the information that my test-bike can't be delivered on time in the last minute basically. So suddenly it was clear that Little Honda will get her annual tour earlier than expected!
The plan was to take 3 great friends of mine and show them some of the stunning roads I discovered together with Marc back in 2016. Unfortunately the weather wasn't on our side most of the time during this trip. However I still managed to capture quite a few RAWs on dry roads. You'll know most of the passes already although this time I rode them in the opposite direction!
BIKE INFO:
Because of the sudden bike change I didn't prepare my CB properly. What do I mean with that? Well. The Little Honda has been standing still since winter time more or less and I only took her out for small commutes. It's why I always procrastinated with giving her some needed maintenance work. The engine oil I was using was too old which can be felt in a less smoothly operating gear box. My handle bars are slightly off the center although that's barely noticeable while riding. The worst part was my clutch being not adjusted and lubed properly. Since I'm not using the stock cables adjusting my clutch always is a bit of a fiddly work which needs a lot of patience. And over time it also tends to change the setup by itself. I was too lazy to re-adjust it and decided to get used to its new biting point. In the first couple of RAW videos you'll hear that this "getting used to" took a while ;)
I'm now using a cheap-ass STORM exhaust because my old one (beloved Leo Vince SBK Evo II) got damaged when I had a small slip back in late 2016. You don't need to tell me... I myself miss the brilliant sound of my old can the most :(

Does the windshield work/help?
It does. Takes a lot of wind pressure from your upper body. But in my case it throws most of the wind to the top part of my helmet. Which means there is less pressure but more wind noise while riding. I mainly use the shield to keep insects away from my GoPro anyway. It also works quite well for that.

because water drops kept on creeping in between visor and the pinlock-shield which then created water spots which were annoying.

Also war der Juni genauso Mist vom Wetter her wie der Mai, ich war ende Mai in der Region und wir hatten von 10 Tagen nur 3 1/2 die wirklich schön zum fahren waren. Den Rest der Zeit hat es ständig geregnet. Und der Stelvio war zu da es dort einen Erdrutsch gegeben hatte. Am allergeilsten war der Mendelpass mit weitem Abstand, dort zu fahren hat unnormal viel Spaß gemacht. Ach ja und nur noch mal um es zu erwähnen... ich finde auch die neuen RAW Italias sehr cool. Sehr coole Videos die ich gerne zur Planung meiner eigenen Routen benutze. Ich finde auch die neuen keinesfalls langweilig.

In my opinion RAWs with the little CB500 are always the best videos. Other RAWs with test bikes can be fun , but only if the choosen bike has a great engine sound, like a Speed Triple i.e. GO little Honda GO!!

Am Samstag werde ich auch ganz derb das Stilfser fahren :) Meine Tour wird wahrscheinlich mit der Strecke Pontebba-Nassfeld enden; aber wenn es zeitlich klappt, möchte ich noch meine alte Jugendliebe, die Zillertaler Höhenstraße mitnehmen - kannst Du Du 1-2 Pässe empfehlen, die man auf dem Weg ins Zillertal einbauen kann? yes that's because the video you see here was shot and uploaded in 4K resolution. KZbin puts a lot less compression on 4K files

Kinda looks like my ride today (minus the spectacular views of Stelvio, even if it was a bit cloudy), ended up on a road with tons of hairpins like that, thankfully my Versys is great at that type of riding. BTW if you've never had a chance to ride a Versys 650, you should try one, you would probably like it for most of the same reasons you like your little Honda.

Stilfserjoch is a coole G´schicht, Bro! ;) War letztes Jahr dort, leider habe ich den Fehler gemacht rund um den 15. August dort hin zu fahren, hab auf den Ferragosto vergessen, unpackbar viel los dort um die Zeit. Ein Zimmer in Bormio ist fast unmöglich zu bekommen und wenn, dann reißt es dir ein festes Loch in die Reisekassa. Im August fahr ich nur noch nach Slovenien, oder bleib in good old Austria. L.G. & halt die Gummiseite unten!

I've seen you have driven the Stelvio pass several times over the last few years, but have you ever driven the Umbrailpass that goes down the Swiss side, just under the top of the Stelviopass? It's fully paved since 2015. Pretty narrow and a bit bumpy in places but a great drive, one of the best roads I have ever driven! Would love to see you tackle it sometime. PS. Stelvio is a cool story bro. Like you said: too bad the weather wasn't great, because the view up there is indeed magnificent.

I've a friend that do something similar every time.😁 It's the Honda DCT of the crosstourer, in AT mode if you slow down, like in a very slow hairpin, the clutch disengage himself thinking you want to stop, don't giving you thrust and feeling like you falling down....sometime you need to put the foot down.

Hey Schaaf, great video as always!! Stelvio is a cool story bro!! I recently bought a 1997 CB500 and it's limited to 25kw. I remember you saying that when u bought yours it was also limited. Can you please tell what are the differences from unlimited and the one limited to 25kw? I feel that when i reach 140km/h she doesent want to accelerate anymore, it starts like "choking". And the same happens when i for example accelerate hard on a 2nd. Seems like it doesent reach redline. Is this because its limited? Sorry to ask this here but i could'nt find info. Moin Schaaf. Ich bin am überlegen mir eine GoPro für meinen anstehenden Mopped-Urlaub anzuschaffen. Nun bietet mein Helm leider keine Möglichkeit, die GoPro vorne am Helm zu montieren sondern wenn dann nur seitlich. Das find ich aber eher ungeil und überlege nun, ob man mit einem Brustgurt vernünftiges Videomaterial auf nem Nakedbike zusammen bekommt. Wie sind da deine Erfahrungen und hast du eventuell irgend welche Tipps für mich? Btw. cooles Video. Ein Bekannter hat mir gestern abend noch vom Stelvio erzählt, da kam dein Video wie gerufen :) bin auf weitere Videos gespannt!

die stelvio hab ich nie geschafft, weil die immer gesperrt war, wenn ich in der nähe war. wenn ich mir des video so anseh, dann muss ich aber sagen, dass ich gar nicht traurig bin darüber. im grunde is das stop and go mit längeren go-phasen. der ausblick ist sicher atemberaubend - was in dem fall zu vernachlässigen wäre :D :D :D. fahrerisch seh ich da aber nicht sehr viele anreize - vor allem nicht, wenn das verkehrsaufkommen höher ist. wieso hast den auspuff wechseln müssen?

weil der alte ein zweites, weniger optimales Loch bekommen hat. Stelvio ist definitiv dennoch eine Reise wert. Wie gesagt, der Ausblick ist unfassbar leiwand, die überforderten Flachländer in den Kehren ein noch interessanteres Naturschauspiel und die andere Seite, runter nach Bormio, macht echt viel Spaß!

Ich finde die Tunnel auf der Seite nach Bormio nicht ganz so toll 🤔. Die Strecke sonst aber schon. Die kleine Honda läuft nicht schlecht den Stelvio hinauf. Da sieht man mal, dass der Fahrer doch ein größerer Faktor für schnelles fahren in den Bergen ist als ein Moped mit 200 PS. Gut gefahren Schaaf. Daumen hoch.

what you need "min gode herre"(swedish) is to test out something super custom and light for those super splendid curvy roads, like a Bottpower xr1 or something like the Ktm950 Hazan machine :P But the cb500 would probably still smoke them :P

after seeing the Hazan Ktm950 build I am very keen on building something similar. But I have been very interested in making my own aircooled ducati so, who knows what it will be, but a super light bike with about 100bhp is going to be built for b-roads, that is for sure.

Stelvio is a cool story bro! Schade wegen dem Wetter. Der Pass gehört zweifellos zu dem schönsten was ich je gefahren bin. Nicht wegen dem Straßenbelag (da ist die andere Seite nach Bormio schon schöner zu fahren) sondern wegen der atemberaubenden Aussicht.
