I don't understand why these rugged phones dont have a raised bezel on the front so that the screen doesn't break when its dropped.

Cuz they can't be indestructible as that would be ultimately self-defeating in terms of sales. :P XD But, agreed!

^ exactly. If it drops on an edge it’ll they’re fine, if it drops face down flat it’ll be fine cause it’s so spread out, has a screen protector, etc. The issue would be if it landed with a rock in the middle of the display or something which no bezel would protect against. So basically it would just be pointless for modern glass / manufacturing.

@@GH0STST4RSCR34M I agree to a point but it is down to context of the drop. A raised bezel could help in some scenarios and probably wouldn't do anything in others. I think it's short sighted to say outright that it wouldn't help at all. Specially with a phone like this, if it were an Iphone and that were implemented I'd agree with you even more.

I've had doogee phones (three I think) for several years now, the older models used to have those big bezels, the newer models have them, but way way smaller, you can barely notice them. They are aprox the thickness of the screen protector, wich makes them seem flat with the screen protector on. They are tough and durable. I used to break my phone every few months(though job). The one I am using right now is more than a year old and honestly, apart from some scrarches on the metal sides, it still looks almost new. I am very very happy with the brand. Software updates are almost non-existant though. Mine is running Android 11, but it works just fine. I've opened one up to see how they are made, they have a solid metal chassis inside (pretty thick too) that goes from top to bottom and from side to side, the full surface of the phone, making it really really rigid.

I hope that this one can be taken apart without literally breaking the phone to pieces. Recently a customer brought a Doogee phone to my shop, wanted to fix the speaker. Turned out that there was absolutely no shot you can open that one without breaking it. Some glue for seals is fine, as that's where some of the resistance comes from, but it should still be serviceable, if something does break. Also, the glue used was one that cannot be melted without melting the phone, so gg.

It’s an unfortunate situation, I understand in this case though that it has to be this way. There aren’t really any ways that manufacturers can get the specifications they need without employing methods of putting the phone together that aren’t user friendly. I’ve worked with manufacturers on the past, and they have to make a choice, either make it use repairable or get the specification that will make them money. The best thing to do with these is actually to send them back to the manufacturer for recycling because if they have systems set up in place, they can actually recycle and make use of it. A buyback / exchange program is common in military applications and mining, similar things for consumers would be great.
@GrimnirLaguz28
@GrimnirLaguz28 11 ай бұрын
@@wafu6058 what you said makes sense, but the problem is that a portion of their about equally resistant phones can be opened. With some screwing around, but can. And then some can't. But then again - those are mostly the cheapest models, where it makes sense as a cost-reducing measure.

I think the major point with this one is the all day battery when running even intensive work without having to carry much extra. That's not a big deal for 98% of use cases, but it is a big deal for the target customer of this phone, contractors, builders, etc... As for using phone cases in general, ever since phones stopped putting decent bezels on the sides of the screen I've been buying cases (not fully rugged ones but they will help it survive a fall anyways. I get the Spigen kick stand cases now) just to add a bezel around the edge to prevent accidental touches from my hands. The last smart phone I used without a case was the Nexus S (in 2011) and when I upgraded to the HTC One (the first one that came out) I had to get a case because it was basically unusable with accidental side touches. I've had that problem all the way to today. Don't even get me started on curved edge screens. Those things are basically unusable for me. So yeah, a case is kind of a must on any phone in my opinion because someone decided to market a lack of bezels as a premium feature a decade or so ago.

I've owned the Doogee S96 and am currently using the S98. Doogee offers really good promotions when they first release their models, I got them for $240 and $350 respectively. I'm honestly really happy with them. I work construction and in the past my screens would always crack within the first few months even with a otterbox and gorilla glass screen protector or get the speaker damaged from water. The S96 lasted me two seasons without ever breaking or cracking without a case or a screen protector and the S98 has been great so far. The night vision camera does actually work, its just a simple IR camera so it just works from like 20 feet but hey for the price I'm actually happy. I upgraded to the S98 because of the thermal camera and hey, they did it again, it works. I need to test concrete and form temps and when I used my thermal camera it was always within a degree of our actual temp gun. The camera is good, but like they said in the video, the software isn't the greatest. I can get a ton out of editing them and by downloading a 3rd party camera app it works a lot better. I can also get a solid 3 days out of the phone without charging which is great for when I'm camping or working out of town. This phone isn't for everyone, but if you're someone that needs a rugged phone and a long battery (or a thermal camera lol) I would highly recommend it.

Bought my dad (construction worker) the dooge s40 or something like that. One day he comes and tells me a pile of plasterboard, about 400kg, fell onto his leg. He had a big bruise on the knee and stayed at home for 3 days. The phone just got the screen cracked, but it worked pretty fine, still usable. We just put a screen protector over. I definitely recommend them. The only problem is the OS version it comes with wont be updated ever.

I have a Doogee S60 and overall I like it but I would not buy it again. I have some serious issues with it. The biggest two are that: - there was no software update for it. It was planned to have one but they gave up - the battery has swollen (just after the one year warranty expired) and ripped some screws' mount points of the body. I had to glue the case after replacing the battery and no longer dare to get the phone wet. Other grievances are that: - they advertise that the phone has stereo speakers but in reality has only one speaker. The other is a dummy (confirmed when it opened due to the battery) - wireless charging overheats the phone, which basically means I can not use wireless charging - the phone turns off or restarts at random - the buttons are not recessed and keep launching stuff when in my pocket or bag, specially the camera app which starts recording and wastes the entire battery in a few hours - the 21M pixel camera is worse than my 8 year older Nokia N8 12M pixel camera - the flaps covering the ports broke and there are no replacements available that I can find On the positive: - I have dropped it several times and it was just slightly crumpled, as expected, but kept working fine - the charger is the best charger I ever had and the most compatible. Some other chargers I have show issues charging other devices that are not the device they came with.

had a doogee s70, for the price back then, performance was awesome , but about rugedeness .... dead speaker, dead charging port, melted charging cable, water damage from being submerged for 15 sec, screen smashed completely after falling from 1m height... so much about ruggedness Not to mention customer support is terrible only good thing was that the camera was decent and fingerprint was fast tho pretty inaccurate after 1 year

@@Hawxsn In my case, I would have probably dropped it more if it was lighter. I have problems in my arms and hands and lighter things give less weight feedback causing me to not know if I am gripping it without looking. I bought that phone because I did not want to buy a case like I did with past ones to protect the screen. I agree with you that we need better designed phones and a lot of other stuff (like laptops which have less and less ergonomic keyboards).

Thank you for venturing into rugged phones. Please do more. As others have said already, you should aim to review ones that have a rubberized lip protruding around the screen for added fall protection. But I'd say the 2 most important talking points to cover would be data security with these types of oddball phones, and which service providers will actually let you activate them. It's been a challenge over the years to get these rugged phones to work on certain providers. The one who seems to be the easiest is TMobile and associated MVNOs. Other providers have what they consider a white list of acceptable phones. If your rugged phone isn't on that list, you cannot activate it, even if the phone supports their bands. And in some cases where you simply swap your already activated sim into the phone, the provider will contact me after some time and tell me the phone isn't supported and that I need to switch phones, even if the phone is working flawlessly on their network.

My wife's Pixel 2XL in an Otterbox Defender survived being run over by a fully loaded fire department pump truck. The screen was shattered, and the chassis and main board were both significantly bent, but the phone still works. Literally every feature of the phone still works. Just slapped some clear packing tape on the display and go. Eventually migrated everything from it to a Pixel 5. Pretty sure I can't repair the display, replacing the glass will require un-bendind the PCB and I'm pretty sure it will break.

I have a CAT S61 as my daily driver. Very satisfied with that as a rugged phone. Raised bezels around the screen as well as an integrated screen protector shield it even from what should be hefty impacts, metallic edges along the side keep the whole structure from flexing under torque, rubber back for impact resistance and grip. The cameras are frankly, shit, though the integrated infrared camera is a nice way to see whether your coffee is still warm. I can vouch for its water and impact resistance, though after some years the little flaps for the 3.5mm jack and the USB-C charging port do come off. Same with the lettering on the back, which are just stickers put into dents on the rubber pad. Though that last thing is purely cosmetic, so honestly not that big of an issue.

He dropped it countless times and aside from the obvious cosmetic damage it just kept on chugging. The main problem is that the battery (10k mAh) degraded after only a year. At first he could go 2, sometimes even 3 days without charging, however a year and a bit later he was daily charging. I feel battery quality is a main issue, probably how they keep the price so low. The camera quality was abismal, near unusable. That's all I have to say about that. The screen quality was good, though unimpressive.

You should review the V-Max and other rugged phones with those ridiculous big batteries. I'm always skeptical of their claims and I would like someone to see if their specs are as they say or if they're BSing us.

I bought a rugged supposedly drop-proof phone a while back. It got knocked off the table while charging and stuffed the USB charge port. Rugged my ass! Honestly, my oldschool Nokia back in the day was 10x tougher!

My V30T has been tough as nails but I don't understand why the phone has to be so slick..... I ended up putting some traction tape across the back which helped. I did rub the paint off the camera bezel in like 3 weeks though.

Please review the Nokia XR20 it's ruggedized but doesn't look like a brick. It also retains an audio jack without any stupid flaps. It also freaking Nokia! They've been making ruggedized phones for more then 2 decades

Soo ... we here are rocking a couple of those A34 5G he mentioned, which we bought new for less than $200 Canadian each, and apparently this tough boy was $700US, down now to $429 US, yet the specs are similar. That means that the additional cost is entirely in the tough part ... thats a lot of expensive tough. I put a decent tough case on ours for $50 and we are a good the way there. I wouldnt buy this unless it got to less than $300 Canadian.

Used for 2 weeks then returned it. The price was great i got it (v30) for around 330$ but the weight and size does not match with its battery autonomy. I was getting 1 to 1.5 days autonomy. Maybe its a good battery life but all what i was doing was using chrome and some whatsapp calls no games no hotspot. So i returned it anyway and wait for a better chipset

I was interested until the brightness was brought up. I work outside in the day and have dropped my phone over 10ft. This looked perfect until I realized it'd look like trash in sunlight. Perfect for an outdoor worker until you realize it sucks outdoors. I guess this is a phone for a klutzy office worker.

Surprised Doogee is still around ,they always made stuff that may look good on paper but it's trash for long term use. Seems to be the case here too, don't expect any real SW support or great warranty in case it inevitably fails. Also, arond 05:13 the side of the phone is warped, maybe because the screw was too tight. Not a good sign for a rugged phone.
