Feds have provided public finance to fossil fuels through loans, guarantees, equity, and grants; they are one of the largest international fossil fuel financiers in the world. Without this, Alberta's fossil fuel projects would not be financially viable. Noboby pays the true cost of energy. There is no free market in energy, not even during the industrial revolution and since. All energy industries are administered and subsidized. Nobody would put up with paying the full price of energy. Not the powers that be, not the consumers.

Will never happen and even Smith knows it. It is a pipe dream. Problem with Alberta separating is it has an economy built on making most of its money from extremely heavy commodities that will need to be schlepped to market at a very much greater expense than currently. It would be pretty completely dependent on Canadian highways, trains, and Canadian markets in order to maintain its economy; basically still be utterly dependent on Canada for its imports and exports and Canada not to mention subject to the whims of NAFTA and Canada could easily throw sanctions and tariffs if Alberta tries to run out on the bill.

The reality is they know there is a problem and by implementing the carbon tax the big polluted corporations are loosing money and the ppl are gaining by receiving rebates. (That is a no, no according to the opposite party). If elected PP will eliminate the carbon tax without any details on what his government’s approach to the tax policy. The thing with the tax reform is that if someone pays less, someone must pay more; otherwise services must be cut. The question is will we found out before IF he is elected who will pay less and who will pay more, and which services will be cut. It’s a gamble to take when you go back instead of moving forward.

@ Look up cap and trade systems that are used worldwide. This is a form of carbon pricing. If there is no cap, how do you propose reducing emissions?
