First of all, I thoroughly enjoy your videos, and I myself am a lazy gardener, so kudos to us both! Aside from that, I would like to point out two things. One: plants in nature are not genetically modified, they are hybridized - genetic modification involves making changes to plants (and animals) that would NOT happen in nature. That said, NONE of the seeds sold to home gardeners are genetically modified, at least at this time - unless, of course, some of those little GMO anarchists have cross-pollinated with plants from which seeds were saved, but I think they test for that. Two: capsaicin is only found in small amounts in the seeds - the bulk of the capsaicin is found in the pith. Don't know how you handle that heat & humidity - I struggle with it being too hot & humid in Minnesota!

Careful! Blackberries are empire builders and can get out of control. I have a dream of creating BlackBerry fencing at the edge of a property and letting it consume the area making my borders secure and delicious (from zombies but just ignore that part tee hee).
@pq71852 ай бұрын
@@delila1830 the area is just a little stepped pad with railroad ties around it almost making it a raised bed sticking off the side of the house. The perimeter is surrounded by brick walkways and mulch so it would have to go pretty wild with runners to escape. We tried growing fruit trees there before and the light was too low and the trees failed after 5 years when a storm took them out. Over time,, the only plants that grew well in this location were strawberries, dandelions, and thistles so I could probably put an artichoke in there if I change my mind later. Right now though, I'm just taking all the ancient seeds we had from another garden over a decade ago and seeing what germinates as we enter the fall season

Your "cucamelons" I suspect are Melothria pendula, or Creeping Cucumber. I discovered them at the edge of a field a few years ago and then they showed up in my backyard bird garden last year. I harvested as many as I could, but there were A Lot more this year. Great edible ground cover the way it's looking right now, although I've read eating too many (of the green ones) at a time might lead to digestive issues, and that they become toxic once they turn black. Will be interesting to see how much more of the garden they cover next year?

Ok... I had to laugh at the spice challenge. For several years my younger adult son lived with us. The challenge, when he cooked dinner, was to make a dish that was too spicy to eat. My husband tapped out pretty early in the challenge, but no matter how spicy my son's cuisine (and he tried every spicy pepper dish recipe he could get his hands on), I would go back for seconds. The challenge ended when he cooked some Thai dish that was so hot that he couldn't eat it himself - but he didn't tell me until after I'd finished my plate that he'd given up and was declaring me the winner. Good times. I've got a few varieties of spicy peppers growing in my (first year) garden. My husband is very cautious every time I bring one in for him to cook with!

Yes, your beer dream sounds like a combination of Mead, meets Ale, meets Gruel. I brew. I grow and use my hops. I do not have an apiary, but still dream about it. The honey is tricky since it slowly ferments (Mead), and if fully fermented it does not taste like honey anymore, but if you overdose the honey (which is fine) but the yeast will be thwarted and the ferment would not be complete. The hops is essential as a "preservative" but get the cohumolone in balance sine too much bine cones (yup, "b"), the hops, has a zingerlicious taste that only the brewer tends to like. Organic Fungus Fighter = copper spray. A law for your vines: don't tie one's shoes in your watermelon area or the perpetrator will be accosted for thievery!

Most aphids are there due to the ants farming aphids. Find and destroy the ant mound. Also, I use clarified hydrophobic extract of neem oil”, or “clarified hydrophobic neem oil” in both a foliar spray or as a soil drench at the base of okra plant. This works for many plants as well. Hybrids versus GMOs. I am thinking that maybe you are talking about hybrids around timestamp 32:08. GMOs, the ones that many don't like have animal and insect DNA spliced into them in a lab to make them more resilient to Round-Up and glyphosate. Cross pollination = sterile hybrids. GMO = frankenfoods that are causing inflammation that we see in everyone today. I am no expert but GMOs are bad in my estimation. Hybrids make very interesting plants and fruit but are only make reproducible plants by the cross pollination of two parent plants. Bees can do this thus the need to not have two varieties of cucumber next to each other or you won't know what you are getting next year (and the seed won't be viable). Great video BTW. I appreciate your content very much.
