This is honestly pretty sad to me. I've been watching you for the past four years and the way that you explain song lyrics and strive for sincerity, honesty, and vulnerability in music inspired me to seek that out in the music that I listen to. You have arguably shaped my entire taste in music because of your videos and for that I want to give a genuine thank you. All I can say now is that I hope that you enjoy your retirement and that your last five videos should just be five more parts of Nerdy Dancing.

Speaking as the person who made those Nerdy Dancing videos, the thought of trying to edit five more frightens me. 😂 But yeah, I'm gonna miss Cliff's KZbin presence...I've been a fan since about 2016.

Interview Tyler and ask him which song meanings you were dead wrong about 😄 Or ask him what songs/lines that have a deeper meaning that he feels have been overlooked. I'm especially interested to hear him explain "I'm still not sure if fear's a rival or close relative to truth." Please don't quit. Even if you only make videos when TØP release new music, that would be fine.

Retirement is going back and reliving the nostalgia of watching the old videos. Thank you so so so much Cliff. Thank you so much for everything you've done for so many people including myself. You've helped me write lyrics and think differently about how I write. I do ask a favor: upload occasionally. Many people, such as myself, would like to know how you are. Just a small life update every couple of months. Maybe once a quarter, twice a year, ir whatever you want. Bottom line, we are gonna miss you so much dude. Hope you have an amazing retirement. You're gonna be (and are already) an amazing dad.

I wont really be "sad" until the NEXT time TOP drops an album and I'll realize -- you won't be there in the hours, days, and weeks to come to break it down etc. Assuming you don't get a real interview type thing -- or even if you do as an earlier one -- I'd love a video where you try to predict what YOU think the conclusion of the various storylines of TOPs albums and characters will be in future album(s).

Aw, we will miss you so much. You're part of the reason I started making my own KZbin videos analyzing lyrics. I stared watching for your Taylor Swift videos, but found myself watching every other thing you posted because it seemed like "lyrics" was your niche. The struggle of a niche is something all of us KZbinrs know all too well though and the algorithm on KZbin can be a beast. I'd love to see your kind of content on TikTok if you ever feel inspired to continue to analyze lyrics. it is MUCH less time consuming to produce and that algorithm seems to just be much more forgiving with diverse pages. I've had TikToks of all different subjects blow up on the same page. But it's just an idea! I personally would love to see your take on the ten minute version of 'All Too Well,' but I look forward to the last few videos regardless. The Tyler Joseph video would be iconic.

Cliff, congrats on your 20 million views, all that you've learned from the work of content creating (that could be a cool video...your personal journey of creating media, pros and cons, successes and mistakes, strategies, advice for creators), growing family, new opportunities. Hope you can stay grounded to enjoy those things in their right place, and they don't define you. I think you said it well, something like music helps us process life, soul and spiritual things. Music has a unique way of expressing our emotions instead of having to disconnect from them, numb or escape from them. Instead we can engage them honestly and creatively. Thanks for thinking thru them with us!

It is quite beautiful to learn about your process that brought you here. My personal journey was I didn't like english classes until I tried to understand what pop songs sung back in the day. Jonas Brothers was far off the meaningful and deep lyrics of Twenty One Pilots. The fact is that I learned to say something without being literal and that what make me listen religiously to TOP and starting to write poems and songs. And of course watching your videos. You teach me more layers. Thank you for that.

As a fellow English Major, I've always appreciated your channel, and I've seen you as an inspiration for my own passions about the lyrical content of contemporary music. For my undergrad senior project, I wrote a 25 page paper analyzing the lyrics of various artists who I felt struggled with faith in their lyrics, including Twenty One Pilots, Mumford and Sons, and Matt Maeson. Your channel helped me synthesize both my love for music as well as the love of my field. Thank you for making this channel. I wish nothing but the best for you in whatever you do next.

I'm glad the algorithm showed me this video. I watched some of your videos to better understand some English songs (being non-native is harder, i guess, to get the meaning sometimes). I wish you did some videos on non-english songs, but let's not ask too much. Your life path (in particular being raised christian and being a PhD candidate) was also a source of thinking for me, for which i thank you. Before nostalgia overwhelms me, I wish you good luck for your life the way we do in Italian: "In bocca al lupo"!

I love your passion for song lyrics and you made me a stronger 21 pilots fan maybe you could look into Tyler's album he made in high school “no phun intended” it is extremely deep! The album is very underground but you can find it. It would also be a dream come true to see you ask Tyler about the album because he hasn’t said much about it. If you do please send him my thanks and appreciation!! You’re the best!!

I have enjoyed your interviews and videos. Sorry to see them stop. I especially liked listening to your guesses on twenty one pilots music - I didn't always agree with them, but you at least thought through what you were saying. For your last 5 videos, you should go back to your top 5 songs that you want to REDO them with the new information and growth that you've experienced since then. I hope God continues to bless your journey, and may you grow closer to him.

I relate to finding a community that also realizes lyrics can change peoples lives. I find it really interesting that you think it has replaced poetry because I think that it so true and I’ve never really thought about it that way. I think your philosophical outlook has shaped lots of ways people think about lyrics. I understand why you want to switch direction. I wonder if some of the disconnection to the channel comes from not having enough songs that make you feel compelled to make videos on. I feel like twenty one pilots is the only mainstream band talking about the nature of fear, motivation and the meaning of life. It’s so difficult to find music that talks about existential things but I think that’s where your interest for lyric analysis maybe stems from partly. Maybe this is why twenty one pilots analysis’s are so popular on this channel? I too crave the conversation for topics like this and I think this channel is perfect for that purpose so I am sad that it’s ending. I look forward to looking for your book that comes out and it is really cool that you’re helping people get access to education easier in the states. It would be cool to see a video on how you dissect lyrics, if there is some process that could resemble some instruction, a last song lyric explanation video and maybe an interview? Thanks for being an awesome youtuber and lyric analyst. I’m looking forward to seeing where you grow from here.

I just want to stay that I totally get stepping away from it all, and if you're completely done I get that. But if you do have 5 videos left in you, I think now would be a great time for at least one of them. Thank you for the years of song explanations!

Subwoolfer writes some light fun songs, you could do an analysis of one of those. Just an idea for a lighter funner style video, I am very new here so not sure if you would be interested. Subwoolfer - Melocoton and Subwoolfer - Give That Wolf A Banana would be the two i would recommend.

I've enjoyed your explanations! Glad that you're in a good place and are leaving when you want to rather than forcing something and burning out more! Hope Tyler can interview with you! If his team gets back to you right when you finish the 5th you know what you must do 😂 sending my best!

My wife and I are Christians, like yourself. An Atheist, on-line friend of my wife was a big TØP fan- but she didn't understand all the Biblical references in the songs. So, knowing Rebekah was a Christian, she asked her to listen to the music and help her understand the Christian references in TØP's repertoire. In the process my wife became a serious fan. This mystified me because she has NEVER really paid any attention to pop music. The Beatles, maybe, a few Christian artists- Michael Card, Randy Stonehill; but in the last twenty years she's not paid any attention to pop music. So I didn't understand this new "obsession" with TØP. I spend more time with music than she does. I was a DJ for a Seattle Christian Music Station and I've done a weekly radio show on our local community radio station- playing anything that had GOOD lyrics- lyrics that mean something important. She would try to get me to listen to TØP but I just couldn't wrap my mind around the music. [ I don't like screamy music and I like lyrics that are clear and straightforward- which Tyler's lyrics are not. There's a much longer story here. But to shorten this: 1. She looked me in the eye and said: "I would like to be able to share this with you." And we decided to plan a 40th anniversary celebration trip to England, the culmination of that two weeks was to attend the TØP concert in London on the 25th. [Skipping a lot of extra drama here.] I was still struggling to wrap my mind around their music and lyrics. This may sound dumb but after we watch the live-stream, I prayed that God would help me learn to love TØP for my wife's sake. And the next day I woke up and all my angst and lack of understanding was gone. And then I began to put every lyric in my head the try to understand the gist of every song- even if some lyrics were still a mystery. I run three times a week and I made TØP's albums my running sound track- since September of 2021. I've sorted through lyric videos and read all sorts of reddit posts about the meanings of their songs. And I found your videos. Your videos were a big help. They were another excellent source of understanding. I didn't always agree with your take. And sometimes you missed a Christian theme here and there. But even when I didn't agree you were helping me to figure it out for myself- and be able to discuss it with my wife in a way that made her GLAD. [I like your take on Heathens, and I think it fits, but Tyler disagrees. And Formidable HAS to be about Jesus - but he's not going to say that, is he?] In any case I spent from last September to last Friday filling my head with their songs and the meanings of the songs [some of that from you] and Saturday, June 25th I attended the London concert and sang my heart out! And it was good. And though I couldn't be sitting with my wife [cause I got a ticket late on resale- which is another story] I got to share that big moment with her. And She and I will be attending their Seattle appearance in September. Anyway, from this 62-year old former DJ and current pastor in a small seaside town in Washington, Thank you.

Very understandable reason! Kids take up a lot of your time, energy, and attention. Congratulations! Your old Dema explanation videos and other tøp videos were very helpful for me when I started out learning the lore and what I had missed, and then a lot of fans pass them on to other new fans who need a starting point too. Thanks for making those.
