I sure didn’t have high expectations for this movie. I’d still rather have a spin-off series to ‘The Road to El Dorado’ or ‘Rise of the Guardians’, which both actually DO lend themselves to more adventures with their respective characters (and in the case of the former, was intended to have its own series before it flopped at the box office).

A Rise of the guardians serie would be sooo cool :D A new villain based on Baba yaga and a Haloween monster could capture Jamie, who's a teenager. His sister Sophie, his friends and the guardians had to rescue him and battle the bad guys in an epic fight. Jack and Tooth could be a couple, that would be cute X3 There's so many creative things to do with this universe. Heck i want to saw Man in Moon's past, that could be interresting. I loved the 2002 "Spirit" movie, but I never saw the Netflix show so I've got nothing on it, or this movie. From what I've heard, this show seems more like it was meant to be an original series, but they later added Spirit to make it more marketable. That'd be like if someone made a down-to-earth show about kids doing normal science experiments, only to throw in Dexter from "Dexter's Lab" or Jimmy Neutron just to grab more attention from their existing fans.

Of course, it’s always the mom that’s a victim of typical family dramas in animated films and shows. Why can’t we just have a different relative die like a grandparent, an aunt or an uncle? What is it with the mom specifically that most writers always pick to get the ax?
@alexismartinez8343

Hunter O'Laughlin I know right? I have got to admit that this whole mother death trope is starting to get cliche and overused in many animated films and family films. It worked well on Bambi, Land Before Time and Finding Nemo but not so much in different movies or this film felt completely unnecessary. I never cared about Lucky's mother death 💀 in here it just comes off as forced and less sympathy to make us think we should care about Lucky losing her mother and care about movie even we aren't buying it. 🙄😒 I do agreed with you that it is better that they used a different family relative to die like grandparent, aunt, uncle or even cousin because there are different family members that we loved, bond and connected to and at least it is far better and we'll written than most cliche mother death tropes. 😃😀😄😁😊😉 👍🏻 💖❤

Considering this film features cowboys, steam locomotives, and old, undeveloped towns, this is still meant to be set in the Old West. Same. NGL I really hated the series BECAUSE it completely neglected the original movie’s message and basically turned Spirit into a pet for a spoiled rich brat. I understand the series is meant for kids and not fans who grew up with the original movie, but I don’t like all the changes they made. Especially having Spirit’s homeland being turned into a settlement with a f*cking railroad running through it (the climax of the movie) and apparently Little Creek’s tribe isn’t around anymore. Which is a sad indication they probably got bullied out by the settlers.

With films like this that are probably most popular with audiences ages 5-10 I'd be curious to hear what their perspective experiences are once they grow up and start channels of their own. Currently, kids can't join the conversation on platforms like KZbin unless they set up accounts with fake ages. This guarantees most of the comments section including myself fall well outside the target audience for such a film. That said, I think this is a decent review and AniMat is on point here.

I've never understood why decades old things get rebooted but completely change genre or become a spin off like with Teen Titans, Thunder Cats and This, just go ahead and make something original then if it's going to be so different. My only guess to why this is done is that they hope parents will recognize the I.P. and remember liking it and then put it on for their kids.

I can't tell if this Riding Free series and film are supposed to be a sequel to the original 2002 movie or a reboot. Either way, it cannot live up to the artistic genius of the original movie. People, just stick with Stallion of the Cimmarron from 2002, and show it to your kids, both to girls and to boys.

I LOVED the original movie. It’s such as a classic that didn’t need to be touched. Once I saw the Spirit Riding Free trailer I was so upset. But I gave the show a chance and fell in love. The show got better as time went on. But after the series came to an end, they dropped the movie trailer. 😔 They replaced the original cast of spirit riding free with “celebrities”. Plus the complete design change from the series was painful too. Now everyone looks like bobble heads. Plus I saw Lucky (the mc) did some karate kick to some dude. What?!? This movie breaks the laws of the original movie and the tv show. Plus it’s just a recap of the first few episodes. As a fan of both the OG Spirit movie and the show, I do not claim this movie to be apart of the Spirit universe. I do recommend you giving Spirit Riding Free a chance, but it seems to be aimed more at teens/preteens so idk if it will keep your attention.

Man DreamWorks really needs to step up their game and make more movies like Kung fu panda or how to train your dragon and not movies like this and the boss baby 2, the netflix show isn't that bad, if you think that it's a different horse and not the same horse as in the 2002 film version. I'm not looking forward to see Spirit Untamed in theaters nor streaming service. I hated the fact that they ruined Spirit Stallion of the Cimarron and sugar coated it as your typical girl bonding horse type tv show that we all ready seen many times before and they really sugar coated and dumb down Spirit like the recent Ice Age sequels. Spirit Stallion of the Cimarron was such a beautiful hand drawn animated film and underrated animated film and this is one of those rare animated films that doesn't need a franchise and should be a stand alone animated film much like Ice Age, Surf's Up, Cars, Chicken Run, The Little Mermaid and many more I can count. That movie touched my heart and my passion of horses and animation and overcome my autism and proven my freedom from discrimination and this movie connected to me. This movie is one of those rare animated films that does a great job dealing of show don't tell and doesn't need dialogue as storytelling much like Wall-E, Shaun the Sheep Movie and other independent animated films. This one should be called Horse Shit the Movie as a perfect title. The story is predictable as your typical city kid moving to countryside and bonding with this wild animal type story and plus this movies feels like a ripoff of the 2002 animated film, E.T., and How to Train Your Dragon, the animation is massive downgrade, cheap and lazy compared to the beautiful 2002 hand drawn animated film and downgrade like a cheap animated PS2 video game, the characters are annoying and unlikable and unrelatable to me especially the girls they are so annoying and obnoxious for acting and being stereotypical cutesy bad and they come off annoying and obnoxious than actual cute and they really dumb this show by explaining everything what's going on that they can't do everything themselves especially a preachy message of 'Protect and save animals" and my God they are as bland and annoying like the kid characters from the Dumbo remake, I never cared or connected to Lucky, she is the most annoying unlikable female character that I have seen and plus I never feel for her and never feel sorry for her that her mother passed away and I mean come on it's the cliche mother death done many times before in animation, this franchise focused too much on the humans less focused on Spirit who is supposed to be the main character of the series but nope give too much screentime on the humans characters much like what happened to Dumbo in Dumbo remake and Tom and Jerry in many Tom and Jerry movies and even the Transformers in Michael Bay Transformers movies where instead of focusing them as the main characters they focused too much on bland, generic, annoying human characters, heck I find garbage shredded pieces of paper have more charm than them! The tone on both the series and this new movie feels way too juvenile, sugar coated, light hearted compared to the 2002 animated film and they got to desperately explain everything what's going on with the voices and it feels like they mostly talking dumb down to it's audience, the voice acting feels bland and wooden, the action scenes look so dull and forgettable and I never feel like the characters in major peril and plays itself way too safe for kids, the songs are cringing to listen to and worse of all this film along with this TV show feels kinda outdated because it takes place on a farm and ranch that doesn't address animal abuse/cruelty on how horses, cows, pigs, chickens and foxes are mistreated and beaten by humans for food, milk and fur, how farmers kill predator animals to protect livestock and how farm animals can spread dieases and Covid-19 started on industrial farms and this TV show focuses too much on the merchandise and girls they never address animal cruelty in here? They don't care about addressing animal abuse/cruelty here. Oh you are so focused and care about merchandise for the toys and the series and yet you are not going to talk about the real serious subject matter of animal abuse/cruelty. Some could argue that it because this takes place before this issue was taken seriously but concerning the fact that the time period doesn't make sense and this show doesn't care about continuity and released in the late 2010 there is no denied that this show should've known better! It sends the wrong message to kids especially towards girls when really farms and ranches are horrible places for animals to lived in awful, cruelty conditions. At least movies like Animal Farm, Charlotte's Web, Babe, Spirit Stallion of the Cimarron and Ferdinand do a decent job to educate and show kids and families how animals are feeling mistreated, beaten and abused by humans and why we should stop animal abuse/cruelty in farms and ranches. If you really wanted to see an animated movie about human girls befriending a horse, I'd watch the Equestria Girls movies, or you know the 80's My Little Pony movie. I’d rather watch me some Equestria Girls instead. Sure it had talking ponies and colored teenagers who got themselves some magic and an enchanted TALKING DOG who’s actually a dragon, but at least those movies were aware of the demographic they were aiming towards. With Spirit Untamed however, nah nah nah. Spirit was a very special movie wanting to be a true work of art, a Renaissance piece of the Wild West. It’s not about the money it made, it’s about being a true living painting with a unforgettable journey home. The true original 2002 Spirit Stallion of the Cimarron was made by true beauty and art 🎨 while this movie on the other hand was only made to make a soulless lazy cheap cash grab! 💸 So yeah, not looking forward to see Spirit Untamed. One of my least anticipated animated movies of 2021. I still don't understand why this movie got to be released in theaters instead of streaming service but it looks and feels more like a streaming service movie to me. Luca and Vivo deserved to have theatrical releases and feel more theatrical animated movies than this piece of shit. I'm going to give this film the Alexis Seal of Garbage! 🗑 💩 😠😡🤬👿

I'm always in two minds about the show and now this movie. On the one hand, it feels like it flies in the face of the original movie, which I hold a lot of nostalgic love for. Focusing on your generic girls club with horses instead of the horse itself with the humans as the side characters like the original, and with Lucky getting to constantly ride Spirit (or rather Spirit's son) when the entire point of the original is that Spirit is the untameable horse, with Little Creek having to go through life and death and time in order to forge a strong enough bond that Spirit would let him ride him at the end of the movie. But on the other hand, I'm clearly not the target demographic for Riding Free and Untamed. This isn't like How to Train Your Dragon, where the show clearly carries on from the original movie. It's made for a new audience of primarily young girls, with DreamWorks just using the IP of the original film instead of making a new IP because it's better for branding. And the target demographic clearly love what they were given. So, it's not like I can say "this show would be better having never existed".
