OKAY… potentially my favorite episode of season 1 😭 it’s so hard to choose but it’s absolutely in my top 5 lol. I’m obsessed 💕🥹 loved the character development in this episode and it really makes me excited for what’s to come in S2 and beyond!

The bench scene was really touching. You get the feeling that, at least for a moment, he let his defenses down and shared something with Yor that was actually real. A little bit of his past, and not just something random, but a memory that is genuinely important to him and that is part of the motivation for why he became a spy.

This episode was great! I agree with everything you said at the end. Seeing Yor, and to a much lesser extent Loid, start to understand their feelings on the situation is so satisfying and makes you feel so warm and cozy inside. Anya also starting to think outside the "I'm in school for this world saving mission" box is also great to see. All of them are kind of growing up "properly" in ways they couldn't before. Makes me all teary.

As I've said before, Becky's my favorite character. Her love of romance dramas and how she brings that to her friendship with Anya is both charming and hilarious. She's super rich but she doesn't believe she's a better person because she's rich. She doesn't have a superiority complex. She has confidence in herself and her ability to reshape the world through her own efforts. She doesn't understand how extraordinary her life is. To her buying out the store is the norm, and because she has no concept of financial privilege she treats everyone equally. If she doesn't like you it's not because you're of a lower class it's because she doesn't think you're a good person inside.

We have sorta gotten a peak at Loid's backstory already. In one of the previous episodes (I think it was episode 1) he talks about why he became a spy, showing an image of him hugging his mom then instantly cutting to him with dirty clothes alone, ugly crying in the ruins of a destroyed city.

It is very important that Yor never falls for the Honey Trap, or as I like to call it Ikimen Mode. If Yor ever does fall for the facade then it will make it easier for Loid to become the same guy he was at the start of the series. Loid being kept off balance by his family is essential for his growing to care for them beyond the mission.

I think it should be pretty clear, that both Loid and Yor are war orphans. Handler on the other hand feels like Loids mom, because she seemingly was a young mother and lost her child in the war.

Loid seeing genuine emotion and walling himself off and going into spy mode to try and rationalize I think is really good at capturing his whole character in that moment. Man has to keep reminding himself he's a spy and it's for the mission but he keeps lowering his guard. Also don't worry Martha's story will happen eventually :)

This is the clearest indication we've had that Twilight is a war orphan. He has been traumatized by this conflict so much more than was originally revealed to us. It's not just propaganda but personal experience. Same with Yor. Yor's parent likely died fighting in whatever war also claimed Twilight's family

Martha - Becky's... Nursemaid? Head-retainer? Protector? Caretaker? - is one of the best characters of the series to me. She's great. Her backstory is very interesting, albeit still a far way off. I'd estimate that her little flashback-arc will only come around in season 4, maybe even 5, under the assumption that the series will keep going.

I think you're missing two things. One, Yor does have feelings for Loid because of her obvious jealousy and the fact she brought up how Loid called her pretty. Number two, we hear Loid think to himself how Yor keeps him uneasy. He can't predict her and the only other person who seems to do that is Anya. I think that makes her special to him. He's not in love with her...yet. But he does admit that she's different than any other woman he's been around. That's a start.

This is my favorite episode except for all my other favorite episodes. I know I've got favorite episodes coming up in season three, wish they'd hurry up and start broadcasting it. There is an amazing, extensive backstory on the assistant Martha, but its appearance in the manga would probably put it more towards season four of the anime--which I think is inevitable!

Just some general advice not applicable to this video. Don't spoil other anime with your comments (you've several times mentioned plot points of Bleach which sound like spoilers to someone who hasn't seen it yet). And don't spoil anything in the titles of your videos. I'm speaking in particular about a recent one which says something about the death of a character in a show I'm not watching (but may in the future). You shouldn't do that.
