@@DD-rh2sz whether scripted or not (I don’t believe it is) after all the failed attempts the wizard made at fixing that car, I know for a fact he’s happy it’s leaving and never coming back. ABC cheaper Fixes (£ gdp): Front and rear valve blocks for the ABC system are listed at around 2 grand EACH. Its the seals that always fail, but are not available via Mercedes, but are available 'aftermarket' for 60 quid a set and fitted within a couple of hours for anyone half competent with a spanner. ABC/Tandem pumps are again listed by dealers at between £1500-£2000. Its a LUK pump. Euro car parts (ecp) will supply exactly the same pump with exactly the same part number for ~ £750, or refurbished pumps are available for ~ £350 from a number of suppliers.

The reason that Toyota is great is that they refine their engines, etc, to iron out the weaknesses in their design, then they stick with them, making continuous improvements. I appreciate your honesty. I’d pay around $6 - $7k for the CL 65, replace the ABC pump and flush the fluid. We all know the ABC system is expensive to maintain but I never heard anything on the oil cooler seal. I would probably live with the leak, just keep an eye on the oil level. It is an amazing luxury coupe with a super car engine.

The ABC suspension requires frequent fluid change. Every 30 000km or so (not this lifetime oil nonsense from Mercedes) and raise and lower its height often. Hydraulics love to be used and get fresh oil, then they go on forever.

Yeah, maybe in the dealership they never changed it. Because they do what the brand says and also what they have determined to do. Sometimes with those vehicles people really do not take 100% take care of them, maybe they change the oil, they fix some issues and that's it. But they are other things that also need maintence. I think they do "flush" to the ABC systems at the dealerships anyway, maybe the owner didn't.

Most modern cars have gotten so complex. We have always had the issue of a repair cost exceeding the value of a car but 20 or 30 years ago, so long as the engine and trans was good, you could fix it relatively easily. An average backyard mechanic could fix most things Nowadays, some system you have never heard of can cost more than the car is worth. A simple gasket or seal can require days of labor just to replace a $2 gasket. Maybe I am just old but I do not enjoy working on newer cars. The frustration outweighs the fun. I had a gen 2 Camaro in high school and I loved that car. To this day I regret selling it. I am planning on getting another one soon. I want to put a newer, aluminium block LS series engine in it and do a full restoration. I am very much looking forward to that project so I am pretty sure the passion is still there. It's just not there with the newer cars. They have just gotten to complex to be fun to work on.

CL65 needs an IV of engine oil with a steady drip. Got fire insurance on the car? It does leak flammables. The new owner will pour a pint of stop leak in it and drive it for years without issue. Where did you get the fear of oil leaks>? Just not an issue unless you clean your driveway with a toothbrush. I've owned cars requiring a quart of oil every 1000. miles or so, never bothered me. NOW an O ring failure on a space shuttle is a worry.

Probably best thing would be just to part it off since there was only a few made. I learned my lessons on German Engineering had a VW golf needed to change the water pump. Just had to take out the alternator a bracket,,,,,,,,,,,, air conditioner pump, another bracket timing cover, just to get to the water pump. Water pump[ needed to be changed because the car's thermostat didn't open and the car overheated. VW that year had like a phenolic impeller (s0rt 0f a plastic pollyer) that moved the water on a metal shaft. BMW had the same that year. Car overheated the metal rod expanded expanding the hole in the plastic. Coolant cools impellar now doesn't spin as the rods smaller than the hole.

@@dalelc43 the right classics are far more reliable than anything modern. No modern cars will reach 40 years old or even close. Even an unreliable classic is ultimately more reliable because it'll be able to be kept running. Whereas modern cars are only one engine chip away from being scrapped. I think you need glasses with further sight into the future!

The irony of all the mechanical problems was that in the past it was usually bodywork rust that finished off cars. For example a 15 year old 1980s Honda that was mechanically perfect but got scrapped because the bodywork was turning into a colander. I personal spent hours patching up that car. When more major repairs were needed the bodywork guys comment was "there's no metal left to weld onto".
@ZachAscot
@ZachAscot 4 жыл бұрын
@@MrDuncl agreed, that's definitely a shame. But it depends on the classic. There are a lot of 80s cars that were galvanised or close enough.
