Happy New Year sir! Physical media is a tough conversation for me. I don't have the shelves for it but these boutique labels put out such fascinating stuff. I just watched Hell of the Living Dead in 4K HDR. What a time to be alive.

I love Honey and never will stop using it. I put it in my tea, spread it on toast, and I even occasionally substitute it for jelly on pb&j.

Better going up than down? OK... GROSS ALERT. DON'T CONTINUE IF YOU'RE EASILY GROSSED OUT. Here's something to make you sick... back in high school I had a bunch of friends that would get drunk and end up... being sick. I came up with a list of food and drinks that tastes just as good coming up and going down. People thought it was gross until they decided to throw a party and wanted to make sure that if they got sick drunk, they wouldn't suffer as much on the reverse trip.

Guerlain L'Homme Ideal is a great fragrance, very sweet, some spice in it too. Worth a spray if you come across it or find a sample. Also, I didn't know you had a wristwatch channel, I'll go find it and watch the lot!

If we're sharing misadventures in the English language, I had an all-time gaffe this week, which should make you feel better about your "no t in comfort zone" slip-up. An international student of mine who is applying to an elite graduate school in the U.S. asked me to submit a letter of recommendation in which I emphasized her proficiency in English. No problem, right? Writing to a graduate school committee, on behalf of my student, as a representative of my university's Department of English, I concluded my letter of recommendation by dropping this bombshell of an error, no doubt destroying my credibility as a recommender, my department's credibility as an academic institution, and perhaps my student's chances of getting accepted. I wrote: "Having observed her English language skills closely in a variety of academic contexts,...I believe she is capable of advance studies in an English-speaking environment. Cordially yours, Travis Shaw." (If only I could insert here a picture of your reaction at 19:17!)

Hilarous commentary as always! Grand massive thank you for the shout-out! It means so much to me that you took the time to talk about my channel and share your favorite fragrances-it’s such a cool connection to see our passions overlap. As a thank you, I’d love to send you a little fragrance package to help train your nose (or just enjoy something new)! Let me know if you’d be up for it and feel free to share your email or contact info so we can coordinate. Appreciate you so much!

Maria! I totally agree. One of my favorite things about doing this podcast is finding people who care about audio but what makes it so much better is seeing what everyone is truly passionate about. Finding fellow nerds who care about these niche hobbies is so rad! That would be cool to train my nose a bit more. Can you shoot me a note at askbandrew at gmail dot com?

Fraghead here too. Partial to Tom Ford Tuskin Leather for my fall/winter fragrance. Also love Victor Rolf Dark Leather. And of course D&G light blue. I don't get umbre leather, smelled like gasoline to me. Tuskin Leather is the beast. It literally smells like straight leather. Try Tuskin.

If you're into fragrance, it would behoove you to look into Spice Bomb, and Rose & Hip Hop. Spice Bomb is a cologne, Rose & Hip Hop is a female fragrance, but it just smells awesome.

My way of getting experience and trying out stuff getting into a new hobby is buying stuff used. That's what I did with guitars, and it allowed me to spend time with many instruments and realize what I like and dislike about each. In a few years I've owned over 10 different guitars and I'm pretty sure I didn't loose a penny doing it - some of them I sold for more than I paid. And when the time came, I felt confident enough in what I want to buy a few guitars new, and those are still with me. Of course there is always some risk involved when buying used, especially when you're new to the topic and don't know what to watch out for, but if you are careful and do your research I think it's definitely worth taking.

I was waiting for the time you talk about fragrances, because I had a big frag phase myself - fortunately I didn't have the money to splurge on an unreasonable collection, but I've smelled a few. Since you like PDM Herod (I love it too) you have to give Layton a shot. I adore it, it's unisex, sweet, spicy and has a floral touch to give it that unique something without turning feminine. I've never found anything like it, but I'm constantly looking. Acqua di Parma is also a really interesting house. Their Colonia Pura is the first summer scent I felt in love with. The vast majority of summer frags are those generic, citrus/aquatic type scents which I always found to be boring, but this one is one of a kind. And also Tom Ford Oud Wood. God, you gotta try Oud Wood if you haven't already. Definitely don't spray on a test strip though because I'm pretty sure you won't like it if you do - spray on skin and give it at least 15 minutes so it becomes less intense and the little sweetness comes out. Boss Bottled EDT is also really cool, and The Scent Elixir too. Both sweet/spicy, I think you may like them. Paco Rabanne One Million Privé is godly too but it's discontinued. Another perfectly balanced sweet/spicy, it's got tobacco too. I got my hands on a 1,5ml sample and now I'm in so much pain knowing I can't get a full bottle. It's incredible.

I really like pens. I just can't get into fountain pens. I shop for the everyday work pen, because what is provided at work isn't great. And I like nice roller ball, medium point flex grip pens. I really want go pen shopping soon.

with the California Fires top of the news. Do you keep you top 5 (in $$$ value) or-so, microphones in some kind of fire-safe when not in use?

Smoke alone would be bad.
@bsp16 күн бұрын
I do not keep any mics in a fireproof safe. If there’s a fire here, I’m grabbing what I can on the way out but it’s likely all going up.

So, is there a reason why the TLM 107 is better than the 103???
@bsp16 күн бұрын
I think it's meant to be more of an all rounder studio mic because of the multiple polar patterns, pads, and high pass filters .The TLM103 is just a cardioid pattern and nothing else.

Netflix was the first major player in streaming. Since they were so successful, every major network and studio decided to pull back their content from Netflix so they could launch their own streaming service. Thibgs like "you loved it back in the 90's market was flooded with $7.95/month streaming services, after the first free month, and they weren't keeping customers after the first month because binge watching was made popular by Netflix. To counter this, streaming services decided to offer multiple months for $20-25. People don't want to spend money on a 3 month long streaming service deal they only plan to watch for 2 weeks so guess what happened? VPNs started to skyrocket in popularity and many people started to pirate the shows they want to watch. Now these streaming companies are so desperate they're trying to give an entire year of their streaming service for $25. Unfortunately, they aren't producing content quick enough to be worthwhile. Thanks to the shutdown of 2020, these new streaming services that launched ran out of content so quick that they started advertising old series saying "you loved it in the 90's and you'll fall in love with it again." The problem is... for people that have tasted the forbidden fruit and subscribed to a VPN for $9.99/month, they aren't likely going to go back to paying for a streaming license when they can have the file on their computer (or on a hard drive with 500 other movies) forever. This is one of the many ways the film industry is broken and this was something I even warned about 4 years ago during the shut down.

What do you think of the model of limited series? I mean by the time you build and audience and get subscribers familiar with a show it is gone.
