This is the perfect way to play this game, the fact that they are in separate rooms makes it so much more fun. The door mechanics can definitely do with a rework though, I've seen this being played on multiple channels, and everybody ends up locking themselves either inside or outside, whichever is bad at that moment. It's not hard either: just let the player remain on the side where he already is; if he's on the floor of a house, he will probably want to be inside. This might make animating a bit trickier though.
