He was never in love with Sarah he likes her no more than a friend their relationship was always platonic that whole love stuff only became a NuWho thing even Sarah only saw the Doctor no more than a friend it was like an uncle and niece type of relationship until RTD took over in 2005 the Doctor was always written as an a-sexual.
