The arrangement on all Hanks songs are tremendous in this picture. . It brings out all the notes of the melody Hank wrote but they didn’t produce on his recordings.

I saw this "new" movie with a high school girlfriend. We dated through our sophomore and junior years, then broke up. Looking back, it was an absolutely beautiful romance. This song brings it back, and for that, I thank you.

They should of used Hank Sr's songs for the movie . I was 10 in 1977 when the drive inn was showing Your Cheat in Heart , my dad took me to see it . In 77 the 24 greatest hits album came out the truckers voted Your Cheatin Heart #1 song . I first learned about Hank Sr from my dad , we were walking back from the mailbox and my dad was singing Your Cheatin Heart and I asked who sang the song and dad told me . The first $ I ever made cutting grass I spent buying the 24 greatest hits of Hank Williams and I've been a fan ever sense . Hank Williams Sr. is by far the greatest country singer / songwriter of all time . Hank will always be the one true king of country music .

Mike A. It wouldn't have been as full of productions and the big arrangements bring out how truly great his songs were. In other words they played every note not just sung the notes.

In 1964, I went with my parents to the drive-in to see this movie. Being an impressionable 5 years old, I wore out the soundtrack, sitting on the bed singing and strumming my toy guitar. Flash forward several years, I was learning to actually play, and on a trip to the city, my mother bought me another copy. I worked my butt off playing the songs, getting nearly every little riff on guitar, and every word, vocal inflection and phrasing. Flash forward to current times. I have been playing professionally and semi-professionally for 40 years, thinking of how much that this recording has given enjoyment to me, and those I perform for. I have a copy of this movie on my laptop, and, of course, the CD of the soundtrack. I'm a big Hank Sr. fan, but some of the most beautiful arrangements of his songs can be found on this CD, including this one.

Saw this movie in the late 60s when it was first on TV. I fell in love with Hank Williams (Sr) on the spot. My grandparents loved the movie because they loved country music, and they watched it with me. Hank Sr was part of their era, when they were still halfway young and listening to music on the AM radio in the old Chevy or whatever. Once I started listening to the actual voice of Hank Williams Sr I could certainly distinguish the difference between his and his son's renditions of the songs. Junior did a great job here, but the authentic Hank has a quality that can't be truly captured by anyone else. I dunno what it is, but Hank Sr was a true original. His voice was thin and lonely and it just worked.

Bosephus did his daddy proud on this sound track! I like this version of the song best. Sorry, Hank, Sr. and Hank Sr. fans. I know that's somewhere next to blasphemy. If it's any consolation, I love Hank, Sr.'s recordings of the song, too. I mean, he DID write the song, after all. Be sweet! Daisy Mae

+daisymaescragg Interesting. I didn't know that Bosephus did the soundtrack, but it makes sense. Junior is kind of a wild guy, and his music has had slight rock music influences. (Only slight!)

The movie was terrible because Audrey, his e-wife, was the technical consultant. She made sure that Hank Jr. (Randall Hank) got to record the songs for the movie instead of using Hank's original versions. The storyline is Audrey's version of events. She never really cared for Hank when he was alive and married to her.
@ronniebishop24965 жыл бұрын
William McCarthy I thought it was close and the movie needed a great soundtrack to reach people who never heard of Hank and that's why it's so great. The arrangers brought out the melodies to the max.

Hank Sr's songs should have been used. There is no catchy sob in Jr.'s voice which cannot be duplicated, it's too emotional.

I remember that the movie portrayed Williams' problem with substance abuse. There was no Wikipedia when I saw it, so I had no idea what the explanation of his addiction was. Per Wikipedia: "Williams was born with a mild undiagnosed case of spina bifida occulta, a disorder of the spinal column, which gave him lifelong pain-a factor in his later abuse of alcohol and drugs." My own dad became an alcoholic before he died, and his rationale was somewhat similar in the sense that he medicated himself. But his issues were emotional. To my knowledge, he only had severe physical pain after a fight with one of his stepsons injured his back during a fight. My dad had grabbed the guy by the neck from behind, so I do not at all blame him for fighting back!

Could be true, the spina bifida thing, but question every darn thing you read on the Internet. Go with your gut, trust your instincts. Smell the rat in the purported "new truth". My gut tells me that their is a concerted effort underway to turn our minds to a false truth.

On this day in 1964 {November 4th} the Hank Williams bio movie "Your Cheatin' Heart" had its world premier in Montgomery, Alabama... In an example of the worst casting in Hollywood history; George Hamilton portrayed Hank Williams in the film... Hank Williams, Jr., who was 18 at the time, dubbed in his father's singing voice... And exactly eleven years later on Nov. 4th, 1975 Audrey Williams, Hank Williams' 1st wife, passed away at the age of 52...

Wonder why they did not use Hank Senior on the sound track ??? The two are so different , Hank seniors version is the best Junior sounds like most club singers he's good but not different enough to be a big star
@muckeyduck34728 жыл бұрын
Don't kid yourself. Jr is very very good, and he rates pretty high up down here in south GA. Besides maybe he saw what fame did to his dad, and just wants to live a normal life. At any rate, he is my kind of guy.

@markpettigrew34829 жыл бұрын
+TheAgingstoner I'd never heard the original version when I saw the movie on TV as a kid, so I didn't even notice the orchestration, which seems to have been a reflection of trends started in Nashville by Chet Atkins. Chet was an incredibly talented guitarist, so it's easy to forgive him for slightly diluting the flavor of country music.
