“I couldn’t save them.” But you did. We all have a limited time on this earth…you gave Stubbs and River the best way to cross the Rainbow Bridge. Had they not been with you, their time and crossing would have been so much much worse. You did save them, my friend.

I tried to convey the same sentiment . . . but can't beat this - Judy. I do my best to feel this way when I lose a pet. I am comforted knowing that I gave them the best life I possibly could. . . and I want to also make their passing as easy for them as possible too. Lee can/should feel gr8 that he has chosen this amazing, caring gift of love.

I lost three dogs the first 3 months of 2023. My Tiki 18 yrs with me, my Olive 8 yrs with me, my Oola 10 yrs with me. I thought I would die from the pain. It was devastating. I still have two. Mike a one eyed pug, a rescue, and Amber one yr old. Cry it out. It does help. Your dogs love you as much as you love them. And I love you for what you do and who you are!

Every time I loose a pet, I say I can't continue to do this. But then I remember the great joy they brought me, and I do it again. I can live with the pain if I have to, but I can't live with the joy they bring. Each one takes a piece of your heart when they go. But each new one adds to your heart. I never stop crying when I think of them and I thank GOD for them. Praying you heal.

The love you have for your animals is very strong and God knows it. He also puts young animals on your path so that they know love before joining him. Don't blame yourself, you loved them and that's what they wanted. Each of us has a moment to spend on earth, more or less long, and the main and most important thing in life is to know love, the joy of loving. Keep doing what you're doing, it's your life, it's your path and you're doing it very well. I send you lots of love and light to continue it. God is with you !!!

It is the hardest thing for me to deal with; saying goodbye to a selfless, loving, giving animal. I know God has them in heaven. People have died, and have seen the animals , awaiting us. This world is temporary, and difficult. The corruption must pass into the incorruptible and eternal. Animals are innocents and will be in the presence of the Creator. We must make that choice. 🕊

@Bonnie Miller God bless you. I don't deserve your thanks..every single brother I lost on the last day was a better man than myself. I failed. The whole village was lost including the priest and nuns but most importantly the kids who were targeted simply because they were taught by the missionaries to read. Don't misunderstand I AM grateful for the opportunity to see my miracle of a Daughter grow up but it also reminds me of Anahita who at 8 years old I couldn't save. I carried her for over 24 hours but wasn't fast enough. Sorry for sharing but it's easier not knowing you. I pray that you and those you care for are happy, healthy, and safe. Semper Fidelis P.S. it WASN'T the Afgani but Russian paid "men" from Pakistan. I apologize for any words that are out of context or poor punctuation and misspellings I lost my hand in Afghanistan so now I dictate rather than type and the program is not perfect. Hold close those you love. I know they're blessed by your presence. Take care.

"Compound Grief" Dear Lee, After many years of volunteering with hospice patients, combined with losing friends, family and beloved pets, I experienced what you may be describing. Each death and loss became increasingly painful and my grief grew more profound. I finally shared my emotions with one of our hospice bereavement counselors. He taught me the concept of "Compound Grief," and that what I was feeling is commonly experienced by those who lose many loved ones. I empathize deeply with you and hope you may be open to considering talking with someone trained in the area of bereavement counseling. Non-profit hospices typically offer bereavement counseling to anyone in their community at no charge, regardless of whether the lost loved one(s) are people and/or animals, and regardless of whether the lost loved one was served by the hospice. Peace & Love to you, and all the beautiful spirits connected to the Asher House.

Good and valuable info. I didn't know this. I definitely struggle more with grief of pet loss more now as I get older. World is so unstable, scary and life in general is so much sadder. Loss of a pet is just too much to bear. I can't imagine the utter torture of losing a child. But for those who don't have kids, pets are our best mates. We assume we'll have them for many years. Sadly there's no promise of forever.

I just love this quote from author Dean Koontz: "“Dogs, lives are short, too short, but you know that going in. You know the pain is coming, you're going to lose a dog, and there's going to be great anguish, so you live fully in the moment with her, never fail to share her joy or delight in her innocence, because you can't support the illusion that a dog can be your lifelong companion. There's such beauty in the hard honesty of that, in accepting and giving love while always aware that it comes with an unbearable price. Maybe loving dogs is a way we do penance for all the other illusions we allow ourselves and the mistakes we make because of those illusions.”

“Sometimes we don’t want to heal, because the pain is the last link to what we’ve lost” JM Storm. I understand that, and it’s okay for the very short term, but staying in that place of mind isn’t healthy. At some point you have to get beyond it,so you can get to the happier place of mind, where we can ENJOY reminiscing about them, telling great stories about them, and allowing ourselves to continue to love them. There’s always going to be that ache of missing their presence in our lives. I have found that what works best for me, when I’ve had to face the hardest part of being a pet parent, is to remember that at that point in their life they are suffering. Often times they have been suffering much longer than we know, because dogs especially are great at masking their own suffering in our presence. So when I know that their pain is that which is not medically able to come back from, whether due to age or illness, it’s not only my job as the parent to fix this, but out of love and duty as their best friend, to help them over to a place where they will no longer be suffering. It’s the most selfless act of love that I can ever do for my best friend. Every one of my kids is still with me spiritually. Sometimes I can feel them with me, or swear I suddenly hear their voice, and when this happens I am filled with warmth, happiness, and gratitude for the time we had together, for them choosing me to be their special person.

Lee, i lost my little friend this week too. They are not in pain or suffering, it is those of us left behind that feel the pain of the loss. It has helped me over the years to recognise that simply because someone can't be seen in the physical, does not mean they are not still with us....guiding us to help others, sending us love. I talk to all of my animals (visible and not) every day. Keep singing to Sammy, talking to River and thinking of Stubbs as you are cuddling the ones that you can see. It hurts like hell but you will prevail and transmute this energy into changing the lives of more little ones. Death is not the end. Love you Lee. ❤ xxxx

C.S. Lewis was right: "The pain I feel now is the happiness I had before. That's the deal.” (This was in reference to the death of his wife Joy, who died of cancer 4 years after they fell in love and married.) What he meant was, the price you pay for experiencing happiness with someone now is the pain you suffer when they are gone. Thank you for the work you do, Lee. @@littlepixieme1 I really love that. I've lost so many human loved ones in the last few years, and I've been given a ton of platitudes and advice, meant to offer comfort. Your comment is the most profoundly apropos statement I've ever read, and I appreciate it so much. I know what loss is, and I know that I'm only a heartbeat away from another one. I have a senior dog that is the furry love of my life. He has tracheal collapse and degenerative disc disease, so we're just keeping him as comfy as possible and tryin to prolong a high quality of life as long as we can. He's in good shape most of the time right now and we can definitely say he's healthy and happy more often than not, for today. That's temporary, though, and the day will arrive where we have to make the decision that will take him from me permanently. I can barely stand to even think about that right now, but I'm trying my best to prepare myself - I know you can't ever really prepare for your heart to be broken, but I'm trying to get used to the idea while he's still here. Thank you so much for your comment. I will remember this when the time comes to walk my little man to the rainbow bridge and let him go so he can cross it. Thank you. 💙

We lost our two Pembrokes at the end of 2020...officially making it the worst year ever. The hole in your soul after the loss of beloved pets is unlike any other kind of loss. Even though we have new dogs in our life, whom we love very much, they are not replacements for those two Corgi Clowns. But Lee, those of us who have a passion for dogs (or any other animal family member), we always have room to love again after loss. And yes it does get harder as we age , the crushing sadness can seem unending. For myself, I try to turn that sadness energy into loving another energy. Rescue people ask a great deal of themselves and sometimes I am sure losing one of your fur babies , for whatever reason, can cause you to question your chosen path. Grieve fully, dear man. Then turn to the rest of them in love and know you have chosen your path wisely and have many supporters as proof.

Time is such a different concept between us and dogs, Lee. Your dogs value and cherish and are so thankful for the time they have with you and the great times for them have to be so much more monumental than their bad times ever were. I had a dog for only 9-10 months before he passed suddenly from a rare blood disorder. It still tears me up to talk about him. And it'd been 5 years. These videos are such a great "scrapbook" to be able to look back on. Grieving is okay. It's healthy. I know this video is from a year ago, but I hope you still see these comments. The important thing to remember when you lose an animal is that they were surrounded by love. If not for you they might have died in a shelter by themselves. With you they had a family and they had love, even if it doesn't last as long as you might wish PLEASE remember that. You are their joy and for how ever long it lasts that is all they care about. I firmly believe that and especially after they have been in a shelter environment, and they KNOW what it is like to be alone, when their time comes they are with family. You give them that.

It always hurts and I watch your channel all the time because it's so wonderful with what you do and the unconditional love you all have. I still feel the pain and loss up to 10 years later, so all I can say is the fact that you continue really shows the kind of person you are. I often wish I were better at connecting with the love and presence that transcends the physical realm. I wish you comfort and I send you a big hug. RIP Stubbs and River and Sammy and Stella 💕🐄💕🐶💕🐶💕🐶

Wow, I love what you said as that's how I feel about connecting beyond the physical realm. I do feel it often. Could tell you stories that give you chills. Life goes on beyond this realm, but I'm so grateful for this like Lee who make this physical realm so much better for others. What a beautiful soul Lee has.

Most of us feel just like you do when we lose a family member and adopting any more just seems so hard.once we give ourselves some time to grieve😥 and that doesn't ever leave we some how manage to find love again in our hearts. So we go and find ourselves a new family member to love and cherish for as long as they want to stay with us . Your not alone Lee. ♥️♥️
