@@masavrabl2128 I once find a hedgehog in late autumn and he seemed quite small, definitely a youngster. So I decided to catch him, feed him and figuring what to do next.. Boy he was so pissed, he was stomping angrily at me, smelled shockingly strong and bad, but he accepted dog's food without a hesitation and forgot for a moment to be angry.. Then I started research, weighted him and found he was quite safely beyond necessary weight to survive winter, so I released him again on the same place I found him. He was standing there thinking "What the hell just happened... Buuut my stomach is full, so I guess it wasn't that bad.."

I don't necessarily disagree in this case but isn't getting your pet to a shelter if you can't take care of it, the least you can do? Is it praiseworthy not to dump a pet you've had for 16 years or basic empathy? Also, you usually can't guess a dog's past from their personality. Sadly, some of the MOST loving, friendly, devoted dogs I know (inc my own), came from abuse/neglect.

She was well loved before, the only reason she was given up was because the man was older and couldn’t afford vet bills anymore. Social security in America barely gives you enough to live off of, let alone care for an animal. I’m guessing she was a well cared for pet.

Dogs in Zoroastrianism Religion : In Zoroastrianism, the dog is regarded as an especially beneficent, clean and righteous creature, which must be fed and taken care of. The dog is praised for the useful work it performs in the household, but it is also seen as having special spiritual virtues. A dog's gaze is considered to be purifying and to drive off daevas (demons). It is also believed to have a special connection with the afterlife: the Chinwad Bridge to Heaven is said to be guarded by dogs in Zoroastrian scripture, and dogs are traditionally fed in commemoration of the dead. Ihtiram-i sag , "respect for the dog", is a common injunction among Iranian Zoroastrian villagers. Detailed prescriptions for the appropriate treatment of dogs are found in the Vendidad (a subdivision of the Zoroastrian holy scripture Avesta ), especially in chapters 13, 14 and 15, where harsh punishments are imposed for harm inflicted upon a dog and the faithful are required to assist dogs, both domestic and stray, in various ways; often, help or harm to a dog is equated with help and harm to a human. The killing of a dog ("a shepherd's dog, or a house-dog, or a Vohunazga [i.e. stray] dog, or a trained dog") is considered to lead to damnation in the afterlife. A homeowner is required to take care of a pregnant dog that lies near his home at least until the puppies are born (and in some cases until the puppies are old enough to take care of themselves, namely six months). If the homeowner does not help the dog and the puppies come to harm as a result, "he shall pay for it the penalty for wilful murder", because " Atar (Fire) watches as well (over a pregnant dog) as he does over a woman". It is also a major sin if a man harms a dog by giving it bones that are too hard and become stuck in its throat, or food that is too hot, so that it burns its throat. Giving bad food to a dog is as bad as serving bad food to a human. The believers are required to take care of a dog with a damaged sense of smell, to try to heal it "in the same manner as they would do for one of the faithful" and, if they fail, to tie it lest it should fall into a hole or a body of water and be harmed. @zoroastrianism.wisdom @Zardasht_afrin1998

Small dogs do live longer, and that's a good thing. I feel like it's only kind to remind you that the day does inevitability come. Having been with your dog most of your life will be doubly hard, so make all the memories you can. They will help a lot. I have been parted from many loving friends but the hardest was my cat Dancer. We were together for 21 years, almost half my life when she passed. My vet reminded me, the pain of losing my best friend could be eased by remembering the love, the companionship and even the silliness. It worked. Six years later, those are what I think of when she comes to mind. Of course the four rescued rascals acquired since then help as well.

Minnie was a fat Chihuahua with a grey face who was found wandering in downtown Phoenix. She came into our family and stole our hearts. The last year of her life she developed kidney failure and my 3 kids helped me give her fluids by needle nightly. She would watch TV the entire time :). When she passed at age 16 from sudden tracheal collapse, it grieved us as much as losing a human family member - the grief was overwhelming because the attachment was so strong - but we know that we will see our girl again in Heaven. Good lord she was confident around all those dogs!.. and look at her little trot! Amazing nimble for such an elderly lady. I'm so happy for her that she's staying put, she's been through enough.

When they opened that door I thought that she was thinking "You gotta be shittin me". But she had no problem which is great, I guess because she was formerly living with other dogs? But they would always adapt and it pours a new life into any dog being a part of a pack..

Pommies always have a serious case of Big Dog Complex. All my pommies have socialized better with big dogs than little dogs because they think they are a big dog.

Her age would be a big drawback, mainly because you know she may not be around much longer and people don’t want to get attached to a dog only to have to put them down sooner rather than later. It would be so hard for me but I hope I could do it if it ever came down to it. Every dog deserves a loving home, regardless of age or illness. God bless Asher and all his wonderful furbabies!
