They very rarely read the law and Constitution in their most straight-forward meaning, even if it doesn’t match their wishes for what they mean. They twist them into a philosophical pretzel to produce never before imagined rights that are then thrust upon the citizenry without their consent. It’s a bit like judicial rape, and no one who does it should be suffered to take the bench for a moment. Where did the right to kill the unborn come from? Where did the right for a man with gender dysphoria to use the women’s restrooms and locker rooms come from? They both came from ideological interpretations of existing law that doesn’t mention them. So yes, they interpret law, and out of their interpretations they create new and novel rights that were never even imagined.

The reparations argument is bogus, because a court cannot order relief for people who were not harmed nor can they financially punish people who were not party to that harm.
