This is going to be an interesting series for sure! Unfortunately I have got zero ideas for stuff to include, however I am sure all the more creative minds in the comment section will have thousands! What I will say is try using a more aggressive plastic cement on large parts with potentially visible join seams, something like Revell contacta or humbrol liquid polly (my personal favourite) if you run them right round the join then clamp the two parts together tightly you get plastic gunk that oozes out of the join which you can scrape off like a mold seam when it dries, it's basically a self-filling seam! Also if you want to add some super subtle texture to armour plates, like you see on tanks, you can spread a bit of liquid polly on the surface and then stipple it with a really coarse, stuff bristled brush to create that rolled steel armour look, it's pretty quick and super easy! Also, I had to watch the end of the video about 5 times because I thought I saw my comment appear, I thought nah, can't be me, is it me? Was that my comment? Bugger me sideways it was! Thank you very much, it is very kind of you, I have a decision to make now!

Oh man, you speak to my heart. I hate cleaning, assembly, sub-assembly preparations and all that. Base building and converting can be fun from time to time, but I really really like painting the most, with gaming in a close second. I know people who buy stuff and in an amazingly short time the army is ready to be played (without paint). Even if I buy a whole bunch of stuff at once, it takes me forever to have it all assembled.

Im personally in love with the Ogroid Myrmidon model, I would love to see what you can make of it!. For conversion ideas it is easy enough to replace his weapon with whatever suits the army narrative. This shield can be pimped out with some feathers to give it a shamanistic feel, hell, you can even give the guy wings and he wont look out of place! Love your videos man, keep it up!

Yes yes yes! Converting videos from Artis Opus! This will be epic! And the fact that this will be a Chaos army is a huge bonus for me :) I mixed all the battleline demons together, mixing heads and arms and weapons to get a "chaos blend" for my chaos ascendant army. They spend so much time together...they should mix at some point (especially Slaanesh ;)) So an idea for you is to go for a chaos undivided army, but have all the chaos gods represented. e.g. on the big models have those Nurgle wings, Khorne axes, Tzeench bird head and some fancy Slaanesh cloth wrapped around

The Spirit of Durthu head/mask is quite creepy, as well as the Spite Revenant faces. Privateer Press have a Hordes faction named Grymkin, which I was reminded of when you described what you were looking for in your army. Basically several beings headed for godhood who are suppressed and banished by the other gods to a nightmare realm, until they're released by a witch in preparation to fight a bigger evil.

Exciting project and it’s great to see the behind the scenes thought process of coming up with a new concept. From a hobby perspective, one of the hacks I like is the use of Tamiya extra thin cement to remove thin mould lines or to close gaps: brush on, let it melt the plastic without touching it. Wait for it to dry and repeat if necessary. As to the models, I’m a big fan of the chimera tail and also would love for you to integrate either pumpkins 🎃 (or in general possessed vegetables/plants - the new blood bowl team or the Mantic kits work too) or take the Disney nightmare before Xmas vive with Jack skellington or rug-dolls

YES! First thing I thought was some kind of Tzeench demon. And then you showed the Corvus cabal models which reinforced this with birds and feathers... but you mentioned Khorne a few times, and I was thinking a reddish brown colour scheme could work. I'm thinking Shrike birds or "Butcher" birds as they are sometimes known, the colours are pretty awesome and in keeping as well. They're known for impaling their victims on thorns... or spears? Also, many, many moons ago I used one of the Treelord kits to make a bone giant, snipping off all the living stuff and adding additional bones. Half a rib cage from a skeleton horse make a wonderful armour section for models that size, shoulders and thighs particularly.

hey Byron Keep going with this mate.. i work in the food distribution industry in the UK so don't get a lot of free time at the moment but these videos are great... a suggestion you may consider is i always think of Beastmen armies as very ad hoc / crude in their equipment and as such i liked the look of the Urak Hai weapons and armour from Lord of the Rings... very crude but effective.... and for shields maybe you could try just using some lolly sticks and snap the ends to give a rough look like .. not sure that comes across well anyways great job and looking forward to the next instalment

@ryansargent6614 жыл бұрын
If you are going Chaos beastmen/cultists here are some different bits you may not think about but will work in the kinda steam/technomagic setting of AOS. Heads/faces: Imperial knights and armigers both come with extra face plates these can be modified into helmets for larger models. The Stormcast heads, if you remove the halos can give a man in the iron mask look. (I actually used one for a Imperial Guard character to make him look like Destro from GI Joe) Wings: There are a lot of different options for wings Tyranids have loads of models with bat like wings (and the exoskeletons on the bodied would give a cool look to some cultists or creatures that are more gaunt, so as not to waste bits). Bodies/arms/legs: Seraphon, Tzangors, Skaven, Beastmen, and the gryphon hounds/mounts that the Stormcast use all can be kit bashed together to give a unique looking force. (I used Cadian torsos and arms, and Beastmen Lower halves and heads to make a Beastmen Imperial Guard unit a few years ago. Also used space marine scout arms and weapons for the heavy weapons) Hope some of these ideas inspire something awesome. This will be a great project.
@S2uBuGaming4 жыл бұрын
Excellent video yet again Byron. Sorry I missed the Premiere. I would suggest going with axes AND scythes, ut gives you more options and also allows for a hierarchy, leaders get Scythes and regulars get axes for instance. You could try the Morghast Archai as they seem amazing models and their weapons would not take much to convert to Scythes (or axes) The mortisan Southwater also could be great with a bit of conversion the ghosts could be turned into blood or even removed. Really looking to this project moving forward. Cannot wait until the next video on it. Keep up the great work dude!

I have been suggesting this to people for years: just use the non-cutting side of a hobby knife to remove mold lines. Much easier than making sure your blade isn't too sharp. Obviously you need to be careful handling your knife this way, but not necessarily any more so than you should already be whenever handling a blade.

Mandrakes w/ Scourge wings could be super cool as a specialist unit. 4: for another character, combine Valkia the Bloody w/ Druanti the Arch-Revenant. Use the Arch-Revenant as the core of the model, and swap out his shield, spear blade, wings and head for Valkia's.

i really think you should create some sort of flying units! maybe use the khinerai as a base, or warcry furies! and use bonesplitter or beastmen bitz to add that cultist attitude! they could be scouts or something for a larger, wandering force. oh and plenty of tribal icons!

A while back I was thinking of doing a Thunderscorn army with all converted minis. I did like my idea for my Shaggoth, maybe you could use it. I would use Morathi’s tail and add lots of legs like a centipede or a behir from D&D. You could just go draconic or if you want it to look more far out you could use humanoid legs or even arms. For the torso I would use Syll'Esske. I still haven’t locked down the head. My first thought would be something eyeless in a pan’s labyrinth/gaunt summoner kind of way but there are lots of options. I do keep coming back to a big fan of antlers of a bone ridge. What do you think. Oh and if you want creepy ungor types you can’t go wrong with head swapped goblin town goblins from the Hobbit range. Bonus points for using the Silver tower fish familiar for a great head swap. Hope this helps. Love what you’ve done so far.

My friend and I have recently committed to WH40k. I decided to go with Genestealer Cults and lean heavily into their wild west feel. I bought some Cerberys Riders from Adeptus Mechanicus and put my Atalan Jackals on the horse/dog robots and now I have some space cowboys and cowgirls! It seems like you are going for a big winged feel, maybe a cultist that is in the middle of "ascending" could be represented by a Vampire Lord or some a Vargheist?

Love that suggestion dude, any excuse for those minis, I actually already have various vamp lords and vargheists in my cupboard of shame :D. Your army idea is great, too :)

Man you are killing me! Haha. I have got so many models on the way to me from your different videos it's not funny. Firstly, love the idea and execution of this series. It's going to be really fun going through it. I can take some solace in the fact that this project is going to cost you a pretty penny, consider it payback for the 3 mega gargants and box of mancrushers I have purchased all down to your flesh video. I bid you good day sir 😂
@ArtisOpus4 жыл бұрын
Wooopsieeee :D. The plus side of this spending is that your bits box is going to be 🤘🤘🤘 and then one day you'll be in a position like I was when I needed wings and had mortarion spare ^^. How're the big-boys going? Assembly wasn't too bad for me, but it did take some time.

@@ArtisOpus ooh you aren't wrong! I've got drawers and big 60 litre storage tubs full of sprues and bits haha. I'll be very interested to see what happens with Morty once the wings have been used on the verminlord. They are coming along, I'm contemplating magnetizing the 3 mega gargants, outside of that propping everything as I go. I ended up ordering some of the Exacto no 10 blades and the sanding sponges that you recommended in this video. For my knife I've only ever used 11s and I have little valljo sanding sticks, but the sponge is going to be much better. You should be getting a commission off any purchases I make, you would be rolling in the dough at the moment haha 😂

For my old Beasts of Chaos army I really didn't like the centigor models (neither the sculpt nor the price). My solution? I used Dire Wolves and Gors. Assemble the Dire wolves, leaving off the heads, then remove the legs from the Gors .Trim the torso to match the Dire Wolf head opening and glue in place. The Gors all have a hairy lower torso that matches well with the ruff of fur around the Dire Wolves; shoulders. You can then finish the upper torso with the usual Gor heads, horns, and weapon arms Another trick I used when I ran out of shields for my skeleton horde was to take a strip of balsa wood, score two parallel lines lengthwise and then break them off at random lengths. Don't be neat! the ragged ends make it look like they just ripped up some wooden walls (or a cheap coffin?) and strapped it to their arm (I used strips of thin typing paper pre-painted in a dark leather color for the straps.) It can give a ramshackle look to your troops if you want. Especially if you mix them in randomly with regular shields. Scoring horizontal lines at irregular intervals can enhance the look of boards nailed together.

Have you looked into Creature Caster? I have been eyeing their Lord of Sorrows model for awhile now with thoughts of converting it into a centerpiece Nurgle Daemon Prince. My other army is Sylvaneth and if you could convert it to match your amazing Drycha, perhaps using bits from a Spirit of Durthu (which was the model that made me start collecting Sylvaneth and could be another source of bits), I'd love to see what you come up with. Just a thought, but the back carapace of the model could be painted to look like a bug spawned from Drycha or swap them out with wings to match the rest of your conversions. Lastly, it could work really well as a base for a Tyranid monster if you go that route too! If you want troops, you could look into Warcry warbands. The Corvus Cabal are prefect for shadowy cabal! You could also look into the Unmade as they are a creepy pain cult or the the new Khainite Shadowstalkers who are literally a shadow cult. I've been building the Shadowstalkers this weekend and they've got a ton of extra daggers and spears that look cult-like.

Just got both your M and D sets of brushes, and just started trying out the D set, after being inspired by the drybrushing/stipling video. However i'm (trying to) painting small'ish robots/battlemechs from the new Clan Invasion kickstarter for Battletech, and was wondering if there is any chance that you guys will make a video showing some techniques on painting those, since they have a fair bit of nooks & crannies and some harder to reach spots. Also i was a bit worried about the treatment i gave the D-brushes due to all these nooks & crannies, though i think the cleaning process seems to have helped a with the brush looking like it had a really bad hair day after i was done :-)
@ArtisOpus3 жыл бұрын
Hey dude, I'm a huge proponent of 'during session' cleaning, check out our complete guide to drybrushing and give it a nose, they're all the good habits to get into which'll pay dividends in the long term! Access is always an issue, if you can have parts non-glued it's invaluable (why my space marine arms are always popping off mid-recording). Another tip is to use slightly wetter, thinner stippling on your basecoats, as it's easier to smush it into where it needs to get. Report back, here to help!
@bjrnmartinlarsen55253 жыл бұрын
@@ArtisOpus I did try to get rid of most of the paint during the painting with the use of a textured cutting board :P So the paint was pretty much gone, it was just that the brush itself looked like a really bad hair day, but once i used the soap/conditioner on it, and shaped the brush it looked perfectly fine again :-) As for the mini's, they are in one piece, so taking arms off and such is probably a bit more than i am willing to try at my current skill level atleast.... but it should improve with practise. And thanks for the tip. Have thinned my paints for regular brushes, but must admit i did not really thin them much if any when using the D-brush. Keep making those gorgeous videos, lots of inspiration, tips & hints in them, and one day perhaps you'll get a box of these (www.waylandgames.co.uk/specialist-miniatures/79842-battletech-inner-sphere-command-lance?search_query=battletech&results=107) and show how it's done :D
