This year, I want to challenge myself to keep growing by developing my aerobic fitness while protecting the strength I have built to eventually take on a 100 mile ultramarathon. This sport has been speaking to me a lot lately, and I think the purpose of a clear goal with a clear date will really help me enjoy my workouts even more by challenging me to continually learn, and study the Sports Science around running and strength in a super hands-on way. I can’t wait to try and hope you push yourself with your workouts, but way beyond your fitness too!! Let’s build that self-belief and support a charitable cause doing it, so everyone wins together.

The Physiotherapy company that helped me recover from a sprained ankle ligament is called Evoker Physiotherapy, in Sydney CBD: www.evokerpps.com.au
The team of incredible running experts helping me hone my running technique and protect my body through the next few months is The Running Room, based in Sydney: www.therunningroom.net
Like always, I would never recommend any company or service to you unless I was willing to pay full price for it myself. All support from the companies above was paid for at full price. I just believe in supporting people who have done right by me and I want to see such high levels of excellence and expertise rewarded!!

Please DON'T FORGET to let me know your ideas and to *thumbs up* your favourites!!! 👍👍 I'm going to work my butt off to support the cause that matters most to you, so please share the cause(s) you care about and vote!! 👍 I'm not too sure how much of this journey I'll share, to be honest. It probably just depends on how into it everyone is as I know it's not everyone's thing and I just want to share what's most valuable for you and will help the most. I'm happy either way and will be working on this either way, but if you think you'd be into seeing a little of the journey to overcoming 100 miles then it really helps to know if you'd be into a couple more episodes 🤍 Appreciate you! Keep building that self-belief! One brick at a time 🙏

Ah wow Natacha, this sounds so exciting and you were so strong getting through the 100 miles almost on your own! You’ve got this 🤗🙏! I never saw myself as a runner growing up but with the help of an amazing physio friend and watching a lot of inspirational KZbin content like your’s over the years, I managed to make it to a multistage trail event in Croatia last year called tribe run for love and loved it so much. The whole event is fundraising to stop modern slavery with their charity called the tribe freedom foundation. Can’t wait to hear how you get on with your journey 🤗

I am a woman trail runner and one health condition that has really effected my ability to break into the ultra space is Endometriosis. I would love it if you could support the Endometriosis Foundation to help research and find better treatments (maybe even a cure). Anywhere from 3-10% of women have Endo, but because it is almost exclusively a woman's "disorder" there is not nearly enough research into it. Thank you Natacha 💛

Dementia research!!! From the age of 10-22 I had to watch my grandad’s struggle with severe Alzheimer’s and seeing someone you really love forget everything and be so disoriented is so heartbreaking. I truly believe if more money was put into dementia research we could have a cure very soon- there’s been promising studies and projects in recent years! Natacha you have inspired me to get into running and I hope to run a half marathon soon and eventually the London marathon- where I’ll be raising money for dementia research! ❤ best of luck for it, you’re gonna smash it!!! 🎉

I work in Alzheimer's research now and I will say while it is obviously a very important cause, believe me there is a LOT of funding for it. I would argue funding for lesser known dementia or dementia that are less common in the general population are much more in need of funding, such as fronto-temporal dementia or dementia with Lewy bodies.

A few basic tips: ultramarathoning on trails with hills will have a lot of hiking. Plan to practice shifting between hiking and jogging. Long ultras are an eating contest. Going 100 miles with hills will take about 10,000-12,000 kcal. You'll need to eat at least 6-8,000 kcals during the event. It's HARD. Find out what you like, what you can eat after 10 hours of running/hiking. You'll need to force things down. It's all about problem solving. Protect your feet, with body glide and socks that fit. I like injniji because they prevent blisters well. Nothing beats practice. You're going to do great.
@saaya8964
@saaya8964 Жыл бұрын
ok wait, not doing an ultra marathon but i've been running up and down the hills since i moved here (used to run even routes before) and my pinky toes have been killing me - you're saying body glide woud help with that?
@Surberus1066
@Surberus1066 Жыл бұрын
@@saaya8964 If it's friction and blistering, Body Glide can help with that. But it could also be an issue with the 'toe box' of your shoe being too snug. Is it worse on the uphill or the downhill? If it's the downhill, your foot could be shifting in the shoe so you might need to adjust your lacing pattern. Good luck!

Welcome to Sydney! Hope you guys are having an awesome time here! In terms of charity suggestions.. my dad was diagnosed with ALS last year… from someone who’s always been strong and healthy, to not being able to walk or move around in just 1 yr was heartbreaking to watch. In the past year, I’ve done tons of research on the disease, and I fully appreciate what a difficult problem it is to solve. There are clinical trials and MND clinics here in Sydney and worldwide, that not only research the disease but also provide care at low costs.. I’m soo grateful they exist coz othetwise this is an expensive disease to manage. So yes, anything we can do to help would be amazing

I second this!!! My dad had ALS for 10 years and passed away Jan 2022. It's a devastating illness; he seemed completely healthy and was an avid runner and biker before he started to get symptoms. The ALS Association here in the States did so much in helping our family and providing us with resources during that journey as he slowly and completely lost the ability to move/breathe/eat on his own. They also conduct research into finding possible cures or medications that can slow down the illness and reduce the symptoms. Definitely a great organization and an amazing cause that could help a lot of people!

I came to comment the same suggestion! My dad had ALS for 2 years and passed away in May 2017. Like you mentioned, this disease is extremely costly to have. Additionally, there are few medications for ALS, which only extend the life of an ALS patient by a few months at best. More research needs to be done as there is no known cause and no treatment that actually saves the lives of ALS patients: the disease is 100% terminal. I have worked with the ALS Association in the past to raise money. They donate to research as well as families who need help with expenses. I definitely recommend working with the ALS Association!!!

@Natacha Océane I posted that, then saw you got injured! It was interesting to watch the rehab and analysis! You're going to kill this. I got into ultras after I turned 40, and decided I wanted to accomplish something incredible that I could look back on with pride. I figured it would be a one and done, but the community, the atmosphere... it's honestly the best, most friendly running/ races/ runners I've ever been involved with, and I want to do it as long as I can. I consider ultras the great equalizer... NO ONE is guaranteed a finish, much less a win. I've got the Jay Peak 50k in the fall. I tried it once and dropped at 22 miles due to the cutoff. It's up and down a mountain 3 times on brutal terrain. Best wishes to anyone thinking to try this, it's wonderful, and doesn't have to take over your life. Can't WAIT for your upcoming videos!

"Because I feel confident in my body" in the context of feeling assured in attempting colossal physical challenges is a gamechanger. As women we're almost always told that we should be confident in our appearances, that we're "beautiful" no matter what. And there's merit to that, but the sheer empowerment of being able to say out loud that you know you're strong as hell, that you're prepared to push yourself, that you've done the work to listen to and optimize your body, that you've trained and worked hard all these years. That is so powerful. Especially in a video where you sprained your ankle too haha! Gosh, Natacha. You're a force of nature. Thank you for sharing you--yes, you--with us. And while aesthetic goals are not wrong, you've made me want to aim for a performance-based goal too this year. Perhaps hit new gym PRs and join the amateur tennis competition in our city that I've been too timid to join. 😂

First of all, this is awesome! As a runner myself, I can totally relate to your reasoning. I want to complete a full-marathon first, but once I do, I have my eyes set on Ultras. I've been an athlete or pursuing athletic challenges since I was very young. I've also significantly struggled with body image and I would like to put in Project HEAL into the running as a charity to support. Project Heals vision is to create a world where everyone with an eating disorder has the opportunities & resources they need to heal. I was lucky enough to have the resources to recover, but there are so many people who do not have the ability to recover from their eating disorder.

Any of those causes would be great since those diseases both grounded my parents from moving how they wanted (dad needed an electric wheel chair, mom received heart transplant!!). Thanks Natasha❤ please consider these you guys!!

I‘m so excited to watch you master this challenge! Thank you for being so motivating! ☺️ An organization I really care about is DKMS. It‘s a German organization matching possible stem cell donors with people who have leukaemia, since my aunt died last year after not finding a suitable donor. I‘m sure there must be more (international) organizations doing the same. My goal for this year is to attempt a half marathon. My longest run has only been 9 km (and suuuuper slow), so I was really amazed how easy your first run looked. Some of my friends want to attempt a triathlon this year, so I am looking forward to some running sessions with them. 😊

Hi Natacha! I’m not normally commenting any KZbin videos and I fell getting our my comfort zone here, but … My girlfriend (thank God!) inspired me to watch your videos and I need to admit that I haven’t felt this great sense of community and motivation ever to come back to long distance running. I’m with you that we set the boundaries in our heads and that’s the only thing that prevents us from taking action. I wish you all the best achieving your goal with Mario! My girlfriend just twisted her ankle last week while performing a functional training at the gym, but after this video she’s got more motivation than ever to run the half marathon later this year. Stronger together! PS: We all are the people of this world, but wanted to share with you that there are some people watching your videos in cold Poland. Greetings and all the best! 😊

I started running about 7-8 months ago after putting it off for 10-15 years. It was so hard and I started with really small (but big!) goals. I did a couple 5Ks, then signed up for a 10K and now I’m about to do my first half. It’s been a huge positive impact on my mental and physical health. I’m so stoked for you on this journey and relate to the scariness of it all! Here for you and this awesome goal!

Hi Natacha, so cool to see you enjoying Australia! This is unreal - you constantly push yourself out of your comfort zone and seek growth wherever you can, and do so with science and evidence behind you. I can say with certainty you’re the most inspiring and genuine KZbinr/influencer that I have come across! I also think it’s awesome that you’re supporting charities through your journey. I’m sure you’ve been experiencing the UV in Australia and have realised how easy it is to get burnt here. I think Cancer council (or perhaps and international alternative) would be a very worthwhile cause given the rates of skin cancer (in Aus in particular!), and to raise awareness in a series where it looks like you’re doing plenty of training outside in the sun (remember your SPF while training here!!). Regardless of which charity you choose to support this time, love your stuff and can’t wait to see you give it your all - succeed or fail!

So much of my life I didn’t do something because I was afraid to take the first step. I’m working of incorporating trying new things into my life. When I was younger, I was much more eager to do new things but the older I got, the more afraid I got. That made me miss out on so many opportunities . I vow to myself to just take that first step. I want to see so much more of this journey! I haven’t done half as difficult challenges as you, but I have run two marathons so I understand why you would want to do this. When you ran for 24 hours and the 24 hours passed I cried with you because even if a marathon isn’t as difficult as that, I could feel the feeling in your mind and body. It’s incredible and makes me tear up. I’ve been training for an IronMan 70.3 lately, but I struggle with the swimming so I’ve been unsure whether to register or not. Good luck with the training and the race. I used to compete and ranked top in many famous ultra races: my number one advice would be for you to get used to ingesting food while you run (around 200-300kcal per hour should be fine). Everyone usually gets the training right, but many DNFs happen because people can't get enough energy in after 10h+ of running, or they aren't used to it and start experiencing stomach issues, vomitting, etc. Ultra running is all about managing your heart beat and maintaining it within an acceptable range, as long as you go above, walk. But most important is to enjoy and feel the environment, the air and the sensation of freedom. Looking forward to seeing your progress on the preparation!

Hey Natacha! this is so awesome, Everyone here has put down some really important charities. Some that sticks out to me are the Alzheimer's research. I'm a med student currently on my aged psychiatry rotation and I can definitely see how heartbreaking it is for people and their families to have their loved one go through dementia. Some others you could consider are the butterfly foundation which I think hits close to home for a lot of us - primarily focussing on eating disorders & mental health. Two that are very close to my heart are MSF - funding for medical equipment, shelters and doctors + nurses in so so many parts of the world that are less fortunate than us, and All Hands and Hearts which focusses on rebuilding structures such as hospitals, schools, and shelters in countries that have been affected by disasters including natural and man made. I just spent some time in the Philippines with them and they have other projects in Ukraine, Mexico, Turkiye, and Nepal. They are quite a small, not well known organisation but their work helps so many and makes a lasting impact on the communities, and they've struggled with funding since COVID19 Ultimately, you should choose something that feels right to you xx

Your fitness abilities and achievements are such an inspiration. Working in the cardiovascular field I would vote that you run for the British Heart Foundation. All the best with the process.

This is so inspiring! I’ll be cheering you on Natacha! I signed up for a half marathon in September, which is a stretch goal for me this year. Longest I’ve ever run in my life was a 10K a couple of years ago. I’ve been having a difficult time motivating myself to train, but this video has got me excited to get back on the trails!

Hi - in line with your ethos, I think raising funds for those with Parkinson’s would be incredible. To raise money for those who cannot control their own movements (like MS and Parkinson’s) is definitely a worthy cause! 😊

such an exciting start to this journey!! i've been wanting to start running for some time now but needed a finally push to get me committed, and I think that this may be it. your videos inspired me a year ago to start training functionally and fall back in love with movement, and I think it might be the time to switch up how I workout can't wait to see your progress and ultimate finish, taking every step with you

Oh my gosh, Natacha ! This is amazing. & I'm over here so nervous about my first half marathon in a month and half! You're amazing. I'm doing a half iron man in September, & this journey has been so scary, but exciting ! And you are truly one of the main reasons for me to do this. You are a wild child, & we love you! ( & Mario!!)

I’m looking into running a marathon this year and would love to run for the MS society as my mum has been living with it for the last 10 years. If you could run for them as well that would mean a lot ✨ thank you for inspiring us and good luck on your journey! 🌸

I cried when you explained why you’re doing this. It’s so true. You keep on challenging us by living the way you do. I feel so so inspired every time I watch your videos, even when you were struggling with your back injury. I feel inspired not to fear getting hurt because there’s always a way forward and our bodies can heal. Thank you for the inspiration and for sharing so much. It’s truly incredible 🤍
