Hi Jason, really cool project! As I've worked as a rigger I want to clarify a few things about the zipline installation in case people want to buy these parts and build one themselves. The short cable around the tree is called a "Bridle" and they can be built as you did or purchased premade with factory crimped end loops also called "swaged" loops which have no clips that loosen or rust. The black "U shaped thingy" you used to connect the zip line to the deck hardware is called a shackle and you used it exactly how it's intended. As someone has already commented it looks like you installed the cable to cable clips (also referred to as "Crosby connectors") backwards. Refer to the comment below about "never saddling a dead horse". The body of the clip always goes on the load bearing line and the u-bolt on the slack side. The way you have it they are more likely to loosen and the u-bolt shouldn't grab the load line as it crimps the cable lowering it's strength rating. The 1\4" aircraft cable is a great choice as its way stronger than you need and the stransa are stainless steel so it will hold up well outdoors but it does stretch a bit when first put under load so expect to tighten it a few times this summer. Also check it for rust a couple times a year, especially in places where the cable gets crimped by hardware. If you find it rusting too quickly, this cable is also sold covered by a vinyl sheath which is even better outdoors. Enjoy being the neighborhood dad hero! The same for me when I was a kid in the 70's. We were always outside, building dens and rafts, climbing trees and riding our bikes, it was great. Lucky kids, the treeless treehouse is amazing.

This one brings back memories: As a kid my buddy’s dad was a builder. We trucked all sorts of stuff into the woods and built a two-story treehouse complete with carpet and shingled roof. Twenty yrs. ago I built one for my boys. The neighborhood “fort” complete with deck and tower. They slept in it, had a telescope on the tower for star gazing, and it was an impenetrable paint ball fortress. (That was a psychedelic mess that needed to be repainted often.) Now my granddaughter and her friends play in it. Thanks again for sharing.

The saddle goes on the loaded side of the cable and the u bolt goes on the cable end (non loaded) side. Thus the phrase “never saddle a dead horse “

Great video! Especially love what you said at the end! I built a playset for my almost 2-year old son about a month ago, and as the weather is finally getting nicer here in Michigan, all he wants to do is go outside and play on it, or with his toys! That is really important to my wife and I, as we don't want him glued to a screen all day either. You see it happen way too much these days! Plus, getting him outside helps us stay active too! Jason, you are a great Dad! And you even put up a climbing wall... wow! We did not have those when I was growing up. We just scrambled up huge piles of open-top citrus crates made of wood that the sorting 'plant' out on the main road had in surplus. The kids from all the homes in our neighborhood were always crawling around up at the plant. The workers would let us bee around, too. They just told us when they were going to have a lot of trucks in ands out, so we knew to stay out of the 'yard' and off to the side where more piles of crates were. After the workday was over, and the workers left, we could climb up in the three and four storey holding and sorting hoppers and look down at the navel oranges the size of softballs, the grapefruit even bigger, and when the tangerines came in, at least a baseball size, oh did we have feasts, hidden away in our pirate forts of citrus crates, consuming our booty. Arrr, matey!! I'm almost 70 now (just a couple more months) and I can still remember. These memories are just like what you are giving your foreman, and all the other kids, Jason. Cheers, mate.

I love this tree-less treehouse! My dad, uncles, and grandpa built me one in the backyard when I was a kid and I was in it nearly every day. It was nowhere near as sturdy as the one you built, just some 16' 4x4s for the posts, but it is still standing some 35 years later.

Your closing comments really hit home. As a dad of three (now adult/teenage) kids, they grow up so fast. Thankfully mine had a reasonably healthy balance still of playing outside and with actual toys instead of just screen based things. Kids need to be allowed to be kids instead of society pushing them into adulthood earlier and earlier.

I love this! You are so right about the need to get outside and just play! My granddaughter is turning 7 in a few days and thankfully, she would rather be outside helping me work in the garden or flower beds, or just digging for worms, catching frogs, or playing in the mud. We were always outside growing up. It is sad that so many children these days don’t experience life without a screen in front of them. Y’all did an awesome job on this entire build. A word to the wise about the tire swing. It might be 'beneficial' to install some padding on the concrete footings. I know me and my friends would always try and spin the swing as fast as we could, faster than we should some times too. Great video and project as always Jason, cheers!

We didn't have a tree house, but my dad made us the best cubbie house out of scrap wood. It had a reclaimed brick floor, and the windows were made of old draws that you could slide open. It quickly became the local spy club for all the neighbourhood kids. I'd forgotten about it until I saw your son playing, and the memories came flooding back, made me cry a bit, and miss my dad. Love your videos and the love you show your son ❤😢
