I saw Neil live in '72-'73 during his Hot August Night Tour. He stated then that he had tried out for the Lenny Bruce bio pic that went to Dustin Hoffman and while in L.A. and depressed about not getting the role, he wrote this song and debut it during this tour.

Been to every Chicago ND concert. Three hours of pure Heaven…no opening acts…no intermissions. He could command the stage…never sat down at one of his concerts. Just came from Boston seeing Beautiful Noise…the play about his life. React to Sweet Caroline,Play Me,America,Song Sung Blue,Melody Road….endless list of amazing hits!

The song is from 1971 and is kind of Neil's signature song. This version is from a TV show. Even if you're a frog who became a king or a superstar in this case, you can feel lost and lonely. Neil Diamond is one of the all-time greatest. He sold about 135 million albums and sold out huge arenas and stadiums around the world. His songs were covered by Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Johnny Cash and many others. You probably know the monster hits I'm a Believer and Red Red Wine, both written by Neil Diamond. If you plan to react to other songs, he has a huge catalogue to choose from: Solitary Man, Brooklyn Roads, Soolaimon, Stones, Holly Holy, Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show, Dry Your Eyes, Beautiful Noise, America, Pretty Amazing Grace... He was the oldest artist in the USA to reach the #1 spot of the album charts with Home Before Dark in 2008 (which also topped the UK album charts), which proves he kept writing great songs throughout his long career.

Hi JH...new sub here. Great reaction!!! Neil Diamond is one of my all time favs. As for Neil, you can pretty much play his catalog and I will listen and like. My favorite song of his is Sweet Caroline. It's actually my ringtone. As someone who was just starting to pay rent in 1971 when this song was released, I lived in Cali. My first apartment was on Port Hueneme beach and was a new 2 bedroom duplex that had a fenced back yard. When you walked out the back gate, I was about 500 feet from the beach. I paid $97.50 a month so rents were low in Cali then. But you are so right...rent isn't low in Cali anymore. If you are looking for something new and different to listen to, try a group called Home Free. Home Free is billed as a Country Acapella group (no instruments). They perform any genre there is - not just country. I know you said you like the live instruments, but I guarantee you will not miss the instruments as they have a Champion beatboxer that you will swear swallowed most of the instruments that make up a band including Castanets. Also when needed all 5 members of the group can beatbox. They not only cover many artists, they also write and perform their own music. There are many people who react to Home Free and their fans (we are called Home Fries) flock to their channels to subscribe. If you do decide to check them out, start out with Man of Constant Sorrow and Ring of Fire to get a feel of their voices. Then go directly to their cover of Boyz II Men End of the Road. For their fun side, check out The Butts remix and All about the Bass. I hope you decide to check them out. You won't be sorry!

Neil spent many years seeing a psychologist…he NEVER thought he had a good voice. Started writing songs for others to sing, until someone told him hat a unique, amazing voice he had. He has retired after 50 years due to a Parkinson’s diagnosis. His autobiographical play,Beautiful Noise has been on Broadway for over a year,Boston prior to that. He is AHHHHHMAZING!🔥❤️💎

Dude this guy was the best singer of the singer songwriters. He is a genius. Try and review some his earlier KZbin videos from the 70s, he was a megastar then. “Brother Loves Travelling Salvation Show” (Once upon a time in America). “Red Red Wine” (UB40 covered his song). “Girl you’ll be a woman soon” (Pulp Fiction). “I’m a Believer”. “I’ve been this way before”.

Neil's two outstanding qualities as a songwriter-and yes-he is a helluva singer- are he can write DEEP lyrics and while generally not using especially complicated chord progressions make every song sound unigue simply by his rythym. He could p;lay the same four chords in so many different ways every time it would sound unigue.

Saw Neil in Pgh in the 70’s… right after release of the album Beautiful Noise. He is a gifted poet who happens to sing and play guitar - beautifully! Also…he will put a bit different spin on a song so each time it might be a little different or a little more fresh. Glad I saw him in his prime, but his voice is still resonant and moving.

I’m watching now. Neil Diamond is a true American treasure, and he was huge. He wrote it in the early 70s. To answer your question, yes I have like this at times - especially in the Winter. Even as a young child, I would cry when this came on the radio. As I got older, I can identify, but this is so sad to me. For me, personally, when I feel like this, I know that I need to just stay in prayer and in an attitude of prayer.

His vocal is very recognizable and pleasant just like James Taylor, Nat King Cole and the like. What it allows is one to actually hear the song-the lyrics/melody and not just the voice. Some artists tear it up vocally but at the cost of the song.

Though he has all the riches and fame and fills up stadiums, while making millions. The two entertainment capitals of the world Los Angeles California and New York City feels empty to him and leaves him feeling even more alone. While all the while saying to himself "I Am I Said." In the 60's through 1970's there were a plethora of great Jewish singer/songwriters. He was as famous as anyone could be. The masses loved him. He and Ralph Lauren/Polo were friends and and they always sat together when they attended religious services at the Synagogue. The Jewish people were the greatest supporters of the blacks during those turbulent times. He and many others were on the roads in the south trying to fight on behalf of the blacks. He ended up at a Mississippi Tent Revival for a black congregation. He wrote a song titled. Brother Loves Traveling Salvation Show. It affected him an a strong way. He has so many famous songs it is hard to choose one,

HI there! Good luck with this channel. I appreciate your fresh take on this classic music from my childhood! And you're right - rents are NOT low. LOL. Music is not about feelings. Music is about co-creating an imaginary space where people can exist of and for themselves for a time. When it's good music, they want to create and share that space so others can be there too. Welcome to the space of "I am!" We all know it's in there. Sharing it through music is epic.

I can relate to the song. Where I was born and raised in Knoxville. Having to move to Detroit for a life in the Auto Industry. So I could raise my family. Even when the wife left. I stayed the corse. I raised my son and three grandchildren. Where I survived but never belonged. But with them, everything mint everything. And I have found love again… Football looks like Alabama will beat Georgia again. Don’t listen to Vegas or the Media. It just about money to them. Down South it’s a way of life. The whole family goes to the games. You know, you go to the barbershop and your there an hour talking about the team. Or talking about going fishing. And you help your neighbors whether it’s bring in the hey, mowing the yard, helping them with building or repairs. And yea, you wave at people you don’t even know. Remember we’re in inflation keep money out of the bank. Paper money is play money. Silver you should be putting some back and food and medicines you could need. The economy doesn’t look good brother. Ever hear a pound of precaution is worth a pound of cure.

first heard this when i was about 19 and had broken up with my boyfriend -- went driving through the park and heard this on my radio and it set my mind back on the right track -- no matter anyone else i am and i am important -- that is what the song meant to me thank you for the reaction smiles and love

I feel lost because I don’t recognize our Country anymore; my Brooklyn neighborhood that I grew up in-the people are all gone; I feel. By the way, Neil Diamond is a Brooklyn Boy ❤️

Love Neil Diamond. Will come back for more. If you like live Rock'n'Roll try John Farnham( Help with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra or You're the Voice, Touch of Paradise)or Jimmy Barnes solo,(Working class man, Flame Trees) or with Cold Chisel Khe Sahn, Bow River or When the War is Over. Or When something is wrong with my baby by both John & Jimmy (with Diesel). They are Australian legends and well worth the listen. John is best live.
