As a woman in her 30s who loves LOTR, I'd kill to have another fan like that at work to talk to. Instead, everyone my age is married with kids and whose idea of fun is to go out drinking. I'd kill for someone to hangout with at the movies, or comic con etc. Or if there are people like that, they're too young for me to relate to mentally. It sucks making friends as adults.

So I have a buddy who I bartended with for years. I’m still a closing bartender, and often I’ll get a text from him around midnight, “garage beers?”. We live in Michigan, and his garage is just a normal-ass Midwest garage; beer fridge, bikes, pool toys, endless crates of recycling. All he has is a simple space heater in his garage, but when we are out there drinking and he’s smoking weed, we are never cold, even on the harshest nights. He even has a large-screen TV out there. Basically everything caller one wants, and in a garage. And guess what? We can be as loud as we want while his wife and kids are asleep. We regularly get out the guitars and warble the night away.

The answer is a ping pong table. When I lived in Buffalo and was in college we had an apartment with access to an un-insulated attic. In the winters it would hit single digits. We’d smoke, drink and play a couple rounds of ping pong and we’d be sweating our butts off
