I would use my rain team with Jolly nature Barraskewda in gen 8 whenever I got tired of being outsped. It reaches 816 speed in Rain, outspeeding Surge Surfer Raichu-Alola, Unburden Hawlucha, Regieleki, +2 of anything below 136 base +Spe nature and +3 of anything below 100 +Spe nature. It can even outspeed a choice scarf Regieleki that isn't +Spe nature.

Nathan, great video, but your team isn’t as strong as it could be. Gotta go to bat for my preferred Rising Voltage sweeper, Regieleki. That thing does so much more damage than Raichu that it justifies its spot on my team, despite it being slower and having worse coverage. Also gotta shout out Choice Band Iron Hands. I hit #1 on the ladder with those two sets.

Is Hidden Power generally agreed to be a mistake? I started playing this Gen, and it just seems like silly and boring design that any Mon can have a coverage move of an arbitrary type

@@SouthpawTF2 The thing is Pokémon is first and foremost a single player game advertised for a younger audience. Even the official format in VGC didn't start until 2009. And I think Hidden Power is a fun thing for a playthrough where it is random which type you get, so often it's complete garbage but it makes every single Pokémon of a species unique since they have different HPs and also up to generation 5 varying power, 30 to 70 also depending on DVs. The problem comes when you can literally chose the type by simply changing the DVs (or even easier select the type you want and Showdown fills the best DVs for that type) and every mon can have a 60 base power move of any type (to be 100% correct: not fairy and normal, but who would want Hidden Power Normal, fairy could be helpful though). Only in the last few generations did GameFreak try to balance some mechanics to accomodate for competitive play, mostly VGC though obviously almost every change effects singles as well. And they apparently also disliked that every mon could have a Joker move which can have the type they desire and thus removed HP from the games in gen 8.

@@moerkx1304 that's the thing though, when I was a kid playing Ruby or whatever, I thought Hidden Power was giga trash because I had no idea how it worked and it probably had 30BP when I tried it. And why try it again in future games when I could just click something exciting like Flamethrower, Thunderbolt, etc. I don't think a move that you have to read its wiki page to even begin to understand it is good design
