Are you sick and tired of the daily grind and dream of quitting your job?
Do you find yourself looking at job postings in secret, wishing you can leave for something better?
As someone who made a conscious decision to leave my stable, 9-5, well-paying job to pursue my own business…I know first hand what the emotions are when it comes to quitting.
And as a career coach, I’ve seen both the dark and bright sides after people have handed in their resignation letters.
The grass isn’t always greener, but it can be, if you ask the RIGHT questions.
You definitely want to make sure you’re going through the thought process CAREFULLY.
In this video, I discuss all you need to know if you’ve been recently thinking about handing in your two-weeks’ notice.
I highly recommend you watch this to ensure you’re 100% ready to quit.
P.S. I’ve included captions for those in ‘sound-sensitive’ environments, so no excuses!

The fact that people change jobs on a yearly basis, says something about employers. People don't leave jobs, they leave managers.

BIG FACTS
@ALostHorcrux
@ALostHorcrux 6 жыл бұрын
I just put in my two weeks. Terrible, stressful job with good-ish pay, at the cost of my humanity. For the past two years I’ve had zero weekends off- zero -and had to work holidays. They told me how great I was and started handing me supervisory responsibilities, which flattered me. Until I realized I had more work, with no raise. If you’re a strong employee and know your job is wrongfully taking advantage of you - leave. I promise it’s the best feeling in the world.

Click-clack this is starting to happen to me also... the job I’m working at is easy job with shitty pay but extremely draining. I’ve been working here for more than a year now and I start to notice I’m getting more responsibilities but pay cheque remains the same. Did you find another job before you put in 2 weeks or did you simply quit? I’m so easily tempted right now.
@ALostHorcrux
@ALostHorcrux 5 жыл бұрын
ChikoPikafull I found another (fabulous) job. I gave them no warning that I was searching for another job. Once I landed it, I put my two-weeks in the day after. Funny thing is, I’m now making more than all my former supervisors. Find a place that appreciates the work you bring to the table.

I am thinking about quitting too for the same reasons. But I will not look for new job at the moment since I am on college as well and I think I should focus more on that part of my life. I love my job but it is truly stressful and full of responsibilites and paid badly. People would think marketing is a high paying job. Well it's not

Sabina Softić Stay if the experience is valuable/aligns with your goals. Potential employers like seeing those who work hard despite stressful conditions, especially in a related field. But if your job accomplishes none of these, consider something else. Work to live, not live to work.

@theglorioussapphiremonkey4750

Yeah for me there are 2 types of stress. Positive stress and negative stress. Positive stress are the tasks you like but even how stressful it gets you still manage to enjoy it coz you like it however the Negative stress are the ones we dont enjoy and we hate to do. So yeah if its a Negative Stress then I agree to run away from it and start doing the ones we like! :)

This video is calling you a coward for wanting to run away from an abusive relationship. To this lady I say life is too short to stay in a place that makes you wake up every morning with a sense of dread. The fact that she’s so detached from how big of a negative impact that could have on a persons life tells me she’s never experienced it.

@lavenderangel2655
@lavenderangel2655 Жыл бұрын
I agree with you, but she's not being detached, she's simply being honest about how employers respond. It's not fair, especially because the lack of retention usually has to do with the employers and not the employee, but the interview process is very short, patterned, superficial and based off of your resume. She gave some good advice, like about planning ahead if you can and running towards an opportunity rather than away from a bad situation because then you'll just have to scramble and end up in the same situation again. But ultimately I feel that your mental and emotional health is more important and you simply will have to craft a good response for when this comes up in an interview without bashing your previous company, but really start going for things that you can see yourself enjoying, it doesn't hurt to try and that's what training is for. Also, to combat the issue of free space in between, try to build your resume with studies, little certifications, licenses and workshops, this can help with talking points and shine a positive light on your character and effective use of your time. Libraries sometimes offer classes on learning a new language for free with a real certification, to be able to add to your resume among other things that they offer at no cost, you can take a CPR course, become a notary public, go back to school or take a certification in something you actually enjoy. You can work on building your people skills and participate in free local clubs or things like toastmasters. Also, if you can afford to, take some time to go through therapy, journal and debrief and work on yourself, there are local health clinics that may offer you help for free, and most places offer a sliding fee scale. These are just some of the things I can think of, if anyone else has any ideas.

Well, I'm sorry. If I'm a jumper because I can't find the right fit..oh well. I personally am the ONLY one responsible for my happiness and fulfillment. My goal is not to make others think favorably. If I stay at a job I hate just to show I can, are these same people going to pay for my medical and mental illnesses from staying caged just to show I can stay put? No! Life is too short and 1 year on a horrible job, whether its been a series of them or only 1 per 3 years is like a decade. Even that's too much, if you ask me.

Agree. I am staying at the job I actually love but the job is causing me so much stress and headaches that I no longer can function properly at home. And yet I keep pushing myself. That is so wrong. I encourage everyone to live the job they don't like or is stressing them to much (long-term) cause if you don't live fully every day, you should change it and go to find something you enjoy in.

Well, I see many great things about job hoppers. 1. Its not easy to find another job and starting fresh at a new company every year or 6 months. 2. Looking for a job will deal with lots of rejections and that take a strong mental game. 3. Quit a job require lots of courage and a strong why. 4. The person truly know their self-worth. Instead of complaining their current situation and trap at the same position, they are willing to strive for what they want/deserved with risks. 5. They all know the whole job market will see them as a job hopper and they still take the initiative for better options. We can always make money, but we can never buy back our time.

I love the work I am doing but the company and my boss suck bigtime! They don't know how to treat their employees with basic rights base on the law! I am at the point where I don't care anymore what they will say about my character for quitting this job because for me, the most important thing is my health(mental and physical) and my principles!! They just brainwashed their employees to thinking it's alright to be under compensated and to be treated badly for you to grow! No, I just can't accept that. Well atleast for me. life is short. worry for nothing. Discover yourself more. there is really nothing wrong being jumpers (well not until you find where you really belong) who knows you'll find what really is for you. Great things never comes from our comfort zone. If you don't like it then get the hell out of it.

My reason for quitting is bucket A because I'm a minor / my job makes me depressed to the point where I have breakdowns and hate my life... I wanted to be gone... Yes in that way (I know its a sensitive topic, but it's real)... I've applied for another restraunt job, and you're probably like "why would you do that?" Well, I'm in culinary class and a mandatory thing is I have a restraunt job so I have no choice but to start over at a new place. And I have to finish two years of culinary to obtain my Highschool credits to graduate. I won't be going into culinary after all. I hope my life gets better.

I figured this part out, thus far. I've been working in customer service for 10 years this year at 3 different companies. I am fed up of it and I am burnt out. I have not quit my most recent job (been here 2 years), because 1. every job search leads be back into customer service, and 2. I don't know what I want to work in next. The pay is good. The job itself is very stressful. I do not want to get stuck in another situation like this one.

I don't want to quit because I don't have the luxury and I have a great job but I am unhappy. Alot of my reasons sound spoiled but I'm just not happy anymore. I'm tired of waking up when my body doesn't want to. I HATE waking up early. I'm tired of the traffic and hour long commute. Maybe if it was a smooth ride, I would get to work in better spirits. I also know how much I am needed in my position but I am not getting paid as much as my other coworker (which is not as needed to the level that I am). I hate that we only get 1 week paid vacation, even if you've been there for 10 years and I'm tired that they don't allow me flexibility, such as coming in later to avoid the traffic and get alittle more sleep (with no effect on my job duties) or leave work early if I have no workload or during slow season. I crave freedom. How do we fix this? I cant imagine spending another 28 years dealing with all that. What a waste of life on this beautiful planet.

If I’m gonna jump into another job (retail for me) and things don’t change the way I want it to in few months time, then it’s gonna be a never ending cycle. It took me a while to process until a few weeks ago I finally decided that I want to quit to peruse a freelancing career. I am currently employed and this is also my first job,I've been staying at my current job for about 4 months now and my reasons why I want to quit are split between bucket a and bucket b, bad relationship with my boss then I also think that there are jobs out there that I know I can grow more. I wanted to quit because of financial reasons, but I don't know how to tell it to my next employer when they asked my why I resigned from my previous job. Can you advise me about this? Thanks.

I love what I do it's just my boss is an insane micromanager! He also let's his workers get away with murder and it affects the moral of the others who take their position seriously. Should I rethink this? Or is this a serious issue and should just go? Thoughts?

What about being too stressed from your job to be able to finish your college? I love my job. I truly do love it. However, I am constantly having a breakdown since the job is challenging and my college as well. I think it would be really helpful for my health to quit my job and focus on my priority and the moment which is college. Dunno.

It was a relief to hear your advice, and yes I am right now on bucket A .I have to admit it, but yes, its true. My one big question to myself is what I really want to do about my career. As I see my friends that they are happy with the life and job they are now.

Most of my reasons are bucket A, however I've worked there 8 years, saved enough to take a few months off to plan. So, I think you can be bucket A and not just fall into the same job elsewhere. Sometimes you can't get to bucket B without quitting that bucket A job.

Well luckily for me, my job is pretty terrible; sedentary, lonely, depressive and miserable, bad for my health both mentally and physically as it is not hygienic, the hours are terrible, the money is too little and the insurance almost non existent, with no potential of growth. And I 'm only 26 years old, healthy, creative and willing to better my life and others' by doing constant changes for the planet and the animals, but I 'm doing the job of an old human without dreams, hopes and interests.The only positive is that I don't have a boss over my head. This is the only reason that has kept me here, because I 've had crappy bosses before. But that's not enough anymore. I have a plan, I want a clean, active job that will wake me up, with better money and insurance, that won't mess my sleeping hours and allow me to find time and inspiration to work on my art skills in hopes of being able to make art my basic income source. I 'm quitting in a month, after I come back from my vacation, as soon as I return I 'll give them 1-2 weeks to find someone else. I 've already made my resume and I 'll start handing it out to some stores I have in mind when I find time, in the meantime I 'm setting aside some money that will cover my needs for a month or so after I quit. I think many of us are job hopping because there are no opportunities where we live to find a decent job in the field that we have studied so we do shitty jobs just so we can make some money, so we are trying to find the lesser between evils.

Your comment really reasonated with me...I have been a "job-hopper" in the past and recently took an Administrative Assistant position at a law firm b/c everyone kept telling me that it was such a good job opportunity. My new boss is a hot head and micro-manager, and I don't trust my co-wokers...not to mention that the pay is less than average and the workload is overwhelming. My dream is to be an artist; however, I live in a small town, where decent paying jobs in the creative fields are scarce. After being talked down to at my 90-day employee review this afternoon, I have made the decision that I no longer want to work there...I consider it a toxic environment that is not conducive to my well-being. My advice to you is to do what makes you happy, even if that means "hopping" around a few more jobs until you find one that is in alignment with your passion. Otherwise, you're wasting precious time (and taking a toll on your health) just to remain stuck in a job with no room for growth-- instead of investing in a career that will showcase your talents and fulfill your goals in life. I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors-- from one fellow artist to another!! ❤🎨

Is it weird to quit my job even though the stress level is not too bad ? I generally get along with my co workers and manager but my pay is way to low. Basically living pay check to pay check without saving much money. And that has also hindered my dating life since I cant afford to date!! Haha. I am in my late 30s by the way, and recently obtained my masters degree in the same injustry. Meaning, i can most likely find (well actually hoping) new a position.

I really hope that someone who’s going through such a hard time at work doesn’t see your video for the first time and start blaming themselves for wanting to remove themselves for toxic work environments that don’t serve them. For the past few months I have been suicidal because of my work and the pressure my managers put on me (I’ve got all types- the bully, the micromanager and the one who just wants to sleep with me) and coming on here to see that I’m a jumper or a coward from running away from the situation is just sad and victim blaming. Life is too short to care about what your resume indirectly says about you. Use your platform better sis!

In my 20's I stayed at job I did not like, very stressful and one I new from the first day I had made a mistake accepting. I stayed for the same reasons mentioned on the video. Big mistake. Should've listen to my gut and leave rather sooner that later. Ended up staying 4 painful years. Trust your instincts and leave if you don't see the situation improving.

What if you are a "jumper" because of a medical condition. However, I don't want to be on disability, so bc I don't yet have a degree in the field I want to be in...I jump around to the only jobs that will accept me for now? My current job is super restrictive and is not conducive to my well being at all. But putting the fact that I have a disability which causes me to leave jobs isn't really a good thing to do either. So I jump until I can get somewhere that I can tolerate until I reach my personal goals. I used to be able to stay at jobs for a long time....but I find its harder to do now.

Thank you for posting this insightful video. I fall under Bucket A. I've been in retail (supermarket) for 21 years, and 13 of those years are from my current job. I have seen a lot of things over that time and I conclude that it's just getting worse. Lately I feel a lot of anxiety before going to work. We are understaffed and overworked. Then dealing with an onslaught of customers, many are rude or mean and take things out on you. We have to work most holidays. In the grand scheme of things, seniority doesn't seem to mean a lot. The company keeps changing the requirements to receive benefits to suit them and not the employees. There is a lot of micromanagement. I feel bored, unhappy, depressed, anxiety, and dread sometimes. It's a pay check but my mental health is taking a beating. And it doesn't help with the Covid-19 being around and not being able to do much. Feels like I lack quality time for myself. The work itself isn't difficult but rather it's how things are run and the decisions made at the top is what makes it bad.
