If you truly do not know what a "gacha" system is (it's a Japanese loan-word), it is something that is very frequent in most mobile games. It's essentially a "slots"-like system, where the player pays for a chance to make a "pull" (like you pull the arm of a slots-machine), and each pull will win you something like new weapons, armor, material and possibly the latest released character (though this is very rare, it's like a slot machine jackpot). What people dislike about this, is that in order to facilitate people actually engaging with the gacha system and regularly paying for a pull, even if it is very unlikely they will win, they make it so that you can't get these weapons, armors or character sin any other way. You can't pay a subscription cost or just buy the latest character as separate DLC, you HAVE to pull the slot machine and gamble, again and again and again, in order to actually get to enjoy new characters and engage with the gameplay. And lately it's been researched and discovered that what gacha systems and casinos do, is that they will deliberately designed their slot machines and gacha to appeal to people who are likely to become addicted to gambling- those who, when subjected to the thrill of gambling will easily click again and again and again because what if NEXT TIME IS THE TIME etc, and before they know it their bank account is empty. That is why people are so hesitant about this mobile game. They have said NOTHING about how they intend to make money from this game, and people fear that a game they enjoy will have a version that feeds the harmful addictions that get some people bankrupt. I don't think anyone begrudges an audience who hasn't the option to play the game before to now have the game... just that the devs will do some very regrettable and abusive stuff in order to make money.

shit takes like yours are why the public vote is only 10%. geoff isnt trying to trademark "game awards" its for the the name of his own show specifically - "the game awards". its a VERY important distinction. tga has a 100% fan vote category, and we see time and time again why its a bad idea in general, but shortsighted people like you cant think that far and would rather complain for complaining sake

Except we don't get at least 5 DLCs that are robust and good enough to fit that bill every year. Keep in mind this would have to be a yearly category, not a one off or something that comes and goes. Robust DLC that are basically Expansions fit the bill as being treated as games. Just like how something like Brood War, Frozen Throne or something would've.

Ok lets solve it by not nominating it then.

Even if it is it's own category, why wouldn't contestants in this category not be eligible to be GOTY? Games always compete in their genre category, and in GOTY category too.

@@suplextrain What a bunch of baloney. Persona 3, The Answer. Splatoon 3, Side Order. FF14, Dawntrail. Destiny 2, The Final Shape. Diablo 4, Vessel Of Hatred. The Sims 4, Lovestruck. SMTV: Vengeance. There is absolutely enough DLC for this category to be a thing every year, it doesn't matter if one is better than the rest. This is why remasters and remakes should be lumped into one category too. DLC should not be in GOTY discussions

@@GetShrekd A remake can be extremely different from a remaster, though. Putting them in the same category doesn't always make sense.
