Suspense & ESCAPE [remastered]

ORIGINALLY titled "The Untouchable," I think the word "Leper" probably grabs your attention a little better! This is a really good story, long before the phrase "obsessive-compulsive disorder" even existed! This episode of Escape is from 1952, starring John Dehner and Parley (deputy of Dodge and mayor of Mayberry) Baer.
• Don't click on this useless thing: www.TunesToTub... • Every episode of Escape is in the public domain. However, the things I personally create? Well, those types of things are probably not in the public domain. Not at all • 2017-18 by Charlie Stuckey ← He's the sole proprietor of this channel. •

This is one of my personal favorites - Parley Baer does a great job ( he later became the Depuity Marshall of Dodge, then the Mayor of Mayberry!)

As Chester Wesley Proudfoot on the first radio version of "Gunsmoke" proved that he was indeed a very versatile Actor.

It is interesting how the characters were developed in a very short period of time for "Gunsmoke". William Conrad actually named Chester and Parley Baer gave him the Wesley Proudfoot part of the name. John Mestin of course further developed the characters in the stories he wrote for "Gunsmoke" and had editorial approval over the other writers such as Les Crutchfield. John Mestin and Les Crutchfield wrote many of the various stories which were aired on ESCAPE other than just "Gunsmoke" with John Mestin in many cases always having the editorial approval over the many stories that were written during that period of the Golden Age of Radio. William Conrad seemed to come up with the names as he also named Doc Adams Not sure about Miss Kitty, the name must have come from John Mestin. If you notice Chester was never actually appointed the Deputy for Marshall Dillon and that is made clear in several of the radio episodes. In one of the stories one of the "bad characters" states that Chester "certainly acts like he is Marshall Dillon's Deputy" and William Conrad doesn't affirm the title, he just says "Yes he does." That is the closest we come to the actual job held by Parley Baer as Chester being Marshall Dillon's Deputy other than simply accepting that he just helped Marshall Dillon out and Marshall Dillon paid him something, as it is mentioned in the stories when Chester needs money for a Beer, Food or a Haircut, Marshall Dillon gives him the necessary money he needs. It was a most unusual relationship but it worked quite well as Marshall Dillon knew he could trust Chester and that was the most important aspect to their relationship. There is a very informative 10 hour Documentary on the "Story of Gunsmoke" available in Volume II from Radio Archives in their Archives Treasures series which outlines in more detail what I have mentioned above with interviews including John Dehner, William Conrad, Georgia Ellis, Rex Kouri, John Mestin and just about everyone associated with these stories except Howard McNear as he had passed on prior to the making of the !970's "Story of Gunsmoke" Documentary.

Suspense & ESCAPE! Yes, I know you do. I’ve saved them as playlists. WC: the best damned Mat Dillon EVER. OTR Gunsmoke: the greatest thing since the discovery of fire. Thanks for your dedication.

@@bodegabreath4258 Gunsmoke (radio) is a great series. I also have Parley Baer and Howard McNear together in a playlist, and Georgia Ellis appeared in quite a few episodes of Escape. Thanks for listening to my uploads and thanks for your comments!

Suspense & ESCAPE! Parley Baer is another fav. Also Georgia Ellis. Didn’t know she had other role other than Miss Kitty. Interestingly, I love tv Gunsmoke’s Milburn Stone as Doc. Cannot abide Howard McNear, however. Sniveling money-grubbing character - not him, his character. Both tv and OTR Gunsmokes owe their success to the quality of the writing. Human interest stories rather than cowboys and bandits that had been done to death. The first western for adults rather than for kids.

@@bodegabreath4258 I pretty much agree with you. You can hear Ellis and Conrad work together in "Red Forest" and "The Follower." It's fun to hear them in the different roles. Howard McNear will always be Floyd to me!

This is one of my very first uploads! Which reminds me: It's been slightly more than two years since you posted your first comments on my channel! I'd hoped that by now we would have established a closer friendship, but every time I've tried you've backed away. We have so many things in common (a love for felines, chronic pain, parent with Alzheimer's, and a clever sense of humor - to name only a few) I think we could become good friends (I wish no more than that) by talking on the phone with each other. You know I love my wife and have no interest in a long distance romance. I consider myself to be trustworthy, and overall I'm honest, with no incentive to make up lies. Since I lost my dearest brother a few years ago, his wife (my sister-in-law) died this spring, and my best buddy (that I've known since we were ten) have had a misunderstanding. He's being stubborn and he won't talk to me! So that leaves me with no one outside of my wife to talk about stuff. Anyway, I'm hoping you'll understand and we can communicate by phone now and then. If not, that's okay. I'll understand and will have no problem with that. Let me know what you think! - Charlie

@@SuspenseESCAPEremastered I understand as I don't have many people to talk to either. But I do wanna run this by my partner even though he isn't insanely jealous he might be concerned. He was married before with 3 children and his wife cheated on him and moved out taking his kids with her. Now we only get them every other weekend and we've missed a lot of milestones in their lives. Even though I know he trusts me I'll just make sure to let him read this 1st..I don't think there will be a problem. 😊
